Mutian Time Designer Guesthouse, Dali | A poetic stay in a century-old Bai courtyard We’ve just returned from Dali, and the place we keep thinking about most is this hidden gem at the foot of Cangshan Mountain — Mutian Time Designer Guesthouse. Oriental aesthetics in every corner The guesthouse is converted from a century-old traditional Bai courtyard house. With its grey-tiled roofs, white walls, and beautifully carved wooden structures, the space carries a quiet sense of history and elegance. The courtyard features water elements, stone paths, and blue and yellow lanterns that create beautiful layers of light and shadow during the day. At night, the soft lighting outlines the architecture and gives the entire space a warm, cinematic atmosphere. The common areas are equally charming, with a stone-built fireplace, vintage furniture, and art pieces thoughtfully placed throughout. The design blends traditional Eastern aesthetics with modern touches, creating a space that feels both timeless and refined. Comfort with thoughtful details Our room was spacious, bright, and very comfortable. A stone feature wall behind the bed, paired with soft bedding and warm lighting, created a subtle sense of “wild luxury” while still feeling cosy and relaxed. Opening the window reveals the courtyard view — waking up to birdsong in the morning and watching the lanterns glow in the evening adds a special charm to the stay. Warm and attentive service From booking to check-out, the hosts were welcoming and attentive. Upon arrival, they introduced the history of the house and highlighted the design features of the property, and were happy to recommend nearby restaurants and local spots to explore. The afternoon tea was beautifully presented, with fresh fruit and delicate snacks — perfect for enjoying a slow afternoon in the courtyard. Breakfast included some local Bai-style flavours, simple yet delicious, and a lovely way to start the day. A peaceful location near the old town The guesthouse is tucked away in Zhongyin Village at the foot of Cangshan Mountain, about a 15-minute drive from Dali Ancient Town. It offers a quiet retreat away from the crowds while still being conveniently close to the main attractions. Surrounded by village life and forested hills, the air feels fresh and full of the scent of nature. More than just a place to stay, Mutian Time feels like a living piece of art. It brought a sense of calm and poetry to our trip to Dali. The hotel is our highlight of the trip for its beautiful view and friendly and attentive staff! The room we stayed has a bathtub and balcony to enjoy the beautiful Erhai. The room is super clean and comes with all necessary amenities. Special shout out to all the staff there who provided superb customer service that made us so welcomed!

We booked the private manor villa come with private bath pool and private courtyard. However both private pool and courtyard are surprisingly disappointed. The pool was dirty, moldy, there was just left over water inside maybe by the rain, it had a greyish , murky appearance instead of being clean and inviting. When we questioned the butler he then said if you wanted to use we can clean it up.  One of the main reasons we paid extra to book this room was for the private pool, it’s frustrating and disappointing that it was not in a condition we felt comfortable using. Ended up we didn’t use it despite staying for 3 nights.  The courtyard was poorly maintained and look neglected as well. As you can see all cushion was exposed under the rain and when sun comes out it dried it which caused the cushion get mold and stains. Service overall not bad and helpful. The only incident was when during check in, my wife asked one of the receptionist  politely if they could help me make a booking as the place need call to book. We do not have China number , line that can call or app to book. The lady that was serving us was hesitant to book for me and initially told us to book online ourselves until my wife highlighted the reason to her again. Public place is well maintained, location is good. Walkable distance to ancient town. Also nearby to few other must visit spots.  Overall decent but won’t be coming back.

Una cosa che è immediatamente fuori l'hotel si trova in una proprietà privata, il che significa che i visitatori casuali e le auto pubbliche non possono semplicemente camminare. Questo solo fa una grande differenza. Senta esclusiva, tranquilla, e fresco incrociata per tutto il soggiorno. E non lasciare che “la proprietà privata” ti fossi stupita nel pensare che sia tranquillo in modo noioso. Il composto è pacchetto con ristoranti, bar e attrazioni per mantenere tutti divertiti. Abbiamo davvero amato questo equilibrio di esclusività senza sacrificare le cose da fare. La stanza era un evidenziamento su di sé un enorme slide e un letto dedicato dei bambini che i nostri piccoli si sono assolutamente impazziti. E il bagno posizionato proprio dalla finestra? Struttura di vista della baia mentre si immerge. Difficile da battere. Sono inclusi colazione gratuita e pausa di tè, e mentre non è niente sopra la parte superiore, la distribuzione del colazione ha una varietà solida e copre bene tutte le basi. Infine, fate tempo per il tetto. La decorazione, le viste della baia, l'intera configurazione ogni singola foto viene fuori grande. E' quel tipo di punto. Molto raccomandato!

La stanza è confortevole, con una grande vasca da bagno🛁, e viene fornita una borsa da bagno. Con la montagna Cangshan alle spalle e il lago Erhai di fronte, la famiglia è al caldo in primavera. Il set di spazzolini è buono, il dentifricio è di Shuke, il materasso è moderatamente morbido e duro, ci sono due cuscini tra cui scegliere, la biancheria da letto profuma di sole, c'è un parcheggio accanto e la strada principale della città antica è proprio fuori dalla porta. È comodo entrare e uscire e puoi immergerti direttamente nell'atmosfera romantica. La governante è stata molto gentile e ci ha dato delle torte di fiori. La stanza era piena di doli per gatti, biscotti, semi di melone, lattine di tè nero e set da tè. È un alloggio premuroso in cui vale la pena soggiornare di nuovo. 😊 Non vedo l'ora di incontrare di nuovo il monte Cangshan e il lago Erhai la prossima volta, e di rivedere Dali, perché qui il calore dei ricordi è preservato e c'è una residenza premurosa che attende silenziosamente i viaggiatori che tornano a casa. Ogni incontro è un felice ricongiungimento con il sorriso sulle labbra.

Absolutely loved this hotel during my stay in Dali. The hotel was very convenient for me as it was in a slightly quieter area and I was able to relax. There were several constructions going on along the road for new villas but it seemed unavoidable as there was really a lot of them every few hundred metres or so. The host was really warm and welcoming, also really helpful. They helped me retrieve my luggage up to my room on my first day and back down to the car on my last. They often checked in to give tips around the area and made small talk which helped me a lot as a solo traveller. She provided me recommendations, offered to help with any delivery related items as I did not have a chinese number, and even helped me make coffee. Their farewell gift to me was surprisingly some sour plums (their specialised gift) that I had been contemplating to purchase while in the ancient towns, and it really solidified the whole idea of the hotel for me. My booking had breakfast included and every morning the breakfast they prepared (although simple) is delicious. Their dining hall area is comfortably decorated and looks really lovely. As for my room, I absolutely loved the layout and space catered. The smart curtains, projector and all gave me privacy and entertainment while resting. I didn’t get to use the bathtub as it was too cold for me despite the heater, but I really appreciated all the available disposable bath covers/vanity kits/bath essentials/toilet covers. The balcony was my go to place to relax and have hot tea. The separated bathrooms were spacious and functional, and the powder area had a good space for me to do my necessary preparations.

Una finestra terra cade in direzione del mare. La mattina presto si sveglia e vede il lago luminoso. La sera può ancora dormire sul letto per vedere il tramonto. Il senso dell'atmosfera è pieno di diretta. La stanza è stata messo con particolare attenzione. I mobili di legno originale sono dotati di un tono caldo e caldo. Il libro ”completo” sul muro è dipinto con la volontà, La lampada di giù è ancora più un penna.Il letto è morbido e la pelle è morbido, dorme fino a risvegliarsi naturalmente, senza senso di lusso del viaggio.

E due persone sono venute dalla depressione della gente.Il senso di progettazione della stanza è forte, ogni angolo è stato fatto fuori.Ho fatto un pomeriggio intero.Il proiettore di noce ha visto la sua arte di notte troppo brillante e la qualità del suono è buona. L'intelligenza in tutta la casa è molto conveniente e la cucina può controllare tutti gli apparecchi nel letto.Il servizio di governatore della gente è davvero sottile, ha inviato frutta di benvenuto e ci ha aiutato a prenotare un'auto per la cucina.Il colazione contiene anche un bel po'di ricci di arachidi. Camminare nella città antica per qualche minuto, mangiare a casa e vivere qui la prossima volta.

Onestamente, non sapevo cosa aspettarmi, ma questo posto mi ha davvero sorpreso (in senso positivo). Innanzitutto, la colazione: di solito non sono una grande amante della colazione, ma non vedevo l'ora che arrivasse ogni mattina. Un'ampia scelta, e tutto era fresco. Pasticcini, uova, frutta fresca, piatti locali, di tutto e di più. Persino il mio familiare dai gusti difficili ha trovato qualcosa di suo gradimento. Il personale era davvero gentile. Non quel sorriso finto da ”addetto al servizio clienti”, ma una persona davvero cordiale e disponibile. Addirittura, una persona alla reception si è ricordata il mio numero di camera quando ho chiesto una chiave extra: un piccolo dettaglio, ma che ha fatto la differenza. La camera era molto più grande di quanto mi aspettassi. Avevamo spazio a sufficienza, cosa che raramente accade negli hotel. Ed era pulita: niente odori strani o moquette macchiata. Ma la vista... quella è stata la vera sorpresa. Mi sono svegliata, ho aperto le tende e sono rimasta lì in piedi per un minuto. La migliore vista che abbia mai avuto da un hotel, senza dubbio. Ci tornerei? Assolutamente sì. L'ho già consigliato a un amico.

L'ambiente dell'hotel è fantastico, un vero rifugio dal mondo. Viaggiavamo con il nostro bambino e ci hanno fatto un upgrade gratuito della stanza, che era molto più grande, con un cortile e una terrazza, entrambi bellissimi. Il servizio è stato eccezionale. Il nostro bambino ha bagnato i vestiti e le scarpe, e la governante ci ha prontamente portato uno stendino, delle grucce e del detersivo. C'è anche un'area giochi per bambini, molto pulita e nuova. La colazione era deliziosa! Tra tutti gli hotel in cui abbiamo soggiornato da Kunming a Dali, questo aveva la migliore colazione. Abbiamo noleggiato un'auto e potevamo parcheggiarla proprio davanti al cortile, il che era molto comodo. Il nostro pacchetto includeva anche un servizio fotografico di viaggio, e le foto sono venute molto bene. Se avremo l'opportunità di tornarci, soggiorneremo di nuovo qui. Ci manca ancora adesso! Ah, è anche abbastanza vicino alle Tre Pagode del Tempio di Chongsheng e alla Città Vecchia.
