We were assigned an accessible junior suite though we didn't request an accessible room.. The bathroom was half finished and the wiring was not completed with the switches for the separate toilet and bath located in the doorway. There were signs pasted on the door to the toilet and the door to the shower stating that the hotel offered its apologies for the inconvenience! There was a workman's support pole found under the sinks which had to be removed by the technician when we complained. There was not a single hook, clothes stand, towel rack or rail anywhere in the bathroom, toilet or room. The hotel staff explained that they would send a technician a second time to drill hooks in the bathroom, we didn't bother since we were staying only 2 nights and didn't want the dust. The shower glass in the shower stall could not contain water within the stall and the floor became wet after we showered.
Location wise the hotel is perfect and the staff were polite. Breakfast was a mix of hot cooked food and the usual cold cuts, cheeses, breads, yoghurt, fruits and juices. The breakfast room changes to a bar at night which serves affordable and nice cocktails.

Great clean basic hotel with everything you need. Friendly staff, they recommended we book a restaurant if we wanted to eat in town. We were so pleased we did as town was very busy. Big comfortable bed . Excellent free breakfast. We managed to park on-site which whilst expensive at €17 it was easy and safe.

This was only a one night stay as we were heading back via the Eurostar. As it happens, we couldn’t have picked a better place as we had a great time there and felt we are well prepared for our onward journey. It is a 10 minute easy walk from the train station and our welcome at Reception was warm and friendly. In fact, the gentleman from Seville was a star throughout our whole stay and helped us a lot. The room was far more comfortable than we expected and had everything you need for a great night. The air conditioning was excellent which was important in the heat and we had a terrific night sleep. There are a few rooms with balconies but we didn’t manage to get one. As it was only for one night that didn’t matter but it may be worthwhile requesting if you get chance. The Wi-Fi was free for unlimited devices and really high quality. We would, without doubt, stay in this hotel again should we be back in town.

Un apparthotel répondant aux attentes : pas de soucis sur le ménage, eau chaude … (comme indiqué dans les précédents commentaires). Personnel à l’écoute. Petit bémol mais connu lors de la réservation appartement au troisième étage sans ascenseur (et Dupleix) ça pique un peu.

MMargaux LI forgot my makeup worth 300 euros there. Getting it back was so hard. I called for 3 days just to get a simple link sent to my email address and then paid 35 euros for ”fast” shipping, which wasn't fast at all. When I finally got my package, almost everything was gone—just a deodorant and one makeup brush were left. It’s obvious my things were stolen by someone at the hotel. When I called, I was left with no acceptable answer and could not even speak to the manager on shift. This hotel doesn’t care about you or your stuff. They didn’t even say sorry. Don’t stay at Hotel Barriere. There are more honest places that will respect you and your things.

MMarjorie CThe hotel foyer was very pleasant with comfortable chairs and a bar. All staff were friendly and welcoming. Our room was clean and comfortable but we did not like the condensed milk provided so could not have a cup of tea. The breakfast was the usual buffet with some hot food. There was too much white bread and one day no wholemeal at all. Also the yogurts all had sugar in them. We would book again

SSAMUELBook this hotel because we had a train at 6am and it was next to the station.
We had an issue because we booked for 4 persons (2 adults and 2 kids). But at the hotel, they says we only booked for 2 adults and they asked us to pay additionnal fee for extra people.
The issue was between the booking platform and the hotel. I don't know how but somehow the commnication between them was incorrect. And it was to the customer to pay again because of the mistake between them.
And the hotel was telling us that we were cheating, trying to go with 4 people and paying for 2 which was wrong.

They very kindly allowed me to check into my room earlier as there was a room available and I was able to rest and freshen up from early morning train travel. Deeply appreciated. Room is more spacious than expected. Enjoyed my stay. Highly recommended

UUtente ospiteThe hotel is excellently located opposite the main train station where the Eurostar arrived. The area was very quiet and also within walking distance to pretty much everything we needed to see so we walked everywhere and never needed public transport. The lobby of the hotel is cosy and very welcoming and the people at reception were friendly and very accommodating. The room was nice and the beds very comfortable. We didn’t have breakfast at the hotel so cannot comment on that but we enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.

UUtente ospiteWe stayed here in order to go to a game at the Rugby World Cup, while this was on they tripled the charge for an overnight stay but this is true of hotels in all cities hosting an event so it was expected. The hotel is in a good location just a short walk from the old town and many bars & restaurants. There's also a supermarket around the corner for beer/wine (there's a fridge in the room) or snacks. It's also not too far from the Eurostar station which you can walk to or take the metro. The format of the bedrooms seemed to vary depending on the location, ours was on the 4th floor and had a separate shower in addition to the bath but it had no room to store flat clothes, there was only hanging space. Rooms on the 2nd floor only had a bath with a shower outlet but plenty storage room for clothes. Regardless our room was clean, quiet, well decorated and had a comfortable bed - nothing at all to complain about. It also had a safe, a large flat screen TV and good wi-fi reception. The staff on reception and in the bar were friendly and helpful. The bar was very busy while we were there but they managed to cope very well with the number of orders for both drinks and food. Drinks were on the expensive side but this is true of most hotels. Breakfast was a bit disappointing in terms of variety and quality (especially the hot items) but the bread was fresh and there was some fruit on offer. There is a courtyard area where you can sit outside in addition to the bar/breakfast areas and we found this a convenient place to sit on the last day while we were waiting for transport to go home. As it is close to Flanders we took the opportunity to book a private WW1 battlefield tour which we enjoyed. If we decide to return to do a similar tour we will certainly stay at this hotel.

UUtente ospiteOnce we located it (I would recommend NOT USING GOOGLE MAPS) it is very well located using Opera House and Apple Store as landmarks and it is close to Lille Europe. Whilst the rooms are small and the lift even smaller it is not any different in size to any other city centre hotel I have stayed in. The staff were friendly and accommodating and the breakfast is perfectly adequate with freshly squeezed orange juice (you do have to request this it is not left out in the buffet area). Certainly had no complaints and would stay here again. My only small complaint is an a typical English tea drinker that the basic Thè was not available but this is a small ****** on what is otherwise a good value for money stay.

UUtente ospiteÈ stato un piacevole soggiorno, ma non esattamente fino alle norme di un hotel 4 stelle o di altri hotel Mercure che ho soggiornato. La posizione è eccellente per andare in giro e la camera era bella e spaziosa (in particolare il bagno era molto grande!). Tuttavia, l'interno dell'hotel si sentiva un po' in cammino, soprattutto nei corridoi, e ha bisogno di un po' di attenzione e di attenzione. La TV non aveva anche canali disponibili ... Le grandi priorità per me con un soggiorno in hotel sono la qualità del doccia e i livelli di rumore, entrambi non erano grandi. La doccia era un po’ di trucco, non molto grande, e c’era un rumore giusto da parte di altri ospiti che parlavano e sbattuvano le porte che mi trascorsero nella camera e mi disturbarono il sonno. Non ho ricevuto alcuna prestazione di membro che ho avuto in altri hotel Mercure.Il personale era amichevole e la pulizia delle camere era grande, quindi un soggiorno complessivo piacevole, ma sentivo molto più di 3 stelle di 4. Ci sono state anche alcune iniziative verdi che non hanno senso; nessuna bottiglia d'acqua per risparmiare su plastica monouso e invece (molto piccole) tazze di carta; sicuramente tazze che finiranno soggy dopo pochi usi sono anche sprecati e contribuiscono alla deforestazione? Quando sono rimasto a un Mercure a Berlino, hanno offerto un complimento ancora e spugnare acqua in bottiglie di vetro che potreste poi portare al bar e riempire che si sente molto più sostenibile.

Rooms hot and poorly ventilated. We We’re pleased it wasn’t summer! The bed was comfortable and linen clean and fresh. Bathroom was ok, but so small I could barely fit into it. Little room between sink and door. One smallish towel was provided per person and one of our towels had a hole in it. The toilet seat was awful. Neither the lid or the seat would stay up. Really awkward for males. Not even plastic glasses were provided in the room, so you couldn’t have a drink of water. Bar was ok but very expensive. Restaurant is a shipping container in the back yard. No doubt very cool and all that but its facilities were meagre. We ordered 2 pizzas and were warned it could be a 50 minute wait. We decided that was just about acceptable. However it took 1.5 hours to deliver our order! It might be funky and all that but it was very, very slow. In fact really poor. Staff friendly, with good English spoken throughout. Parking plentiful and it felt secure. The hotel is too far from the city centre to be convenient. We walked in twice and whilst quite a pleasant walk it is about 40 minutes. There were no shops or restaurants within easy walking distance. It wasn’t exactly cheap but OK. Overall average.
