This is a perfect spot in Nagano if you want to take a break before heading to other parts such as Hakuba for skiing . It is literally right at the station and connected via MIDORI where you can buy groceries and with lots of restaurants.
Due to fight delay, we arrived late at night at around 10pm. MIDORI shops were all closed but ht path to hotel still open and we can still find plenty of cafes nearby.
It has reserved Alpico bus to Hakuba right at hotel or you may go to the regular bus stop at bus station 26 for higher frequency of bus service.
Will definitely stay here again if we need to stop over at Nagano. Though the hotel is not new, it’s spacious and clean enough for a comfortable stay .

I had a wonderful stay at Smile Hotel Nagano. The staff were extremely polite, helpful, and welcoming, which made my experience very comfortable from check-in to check-out. The ambience of the hotel is pleasant and relaxing, and everything was well maintained and clean.
The services were smooth and efficient, and I truly appreciated the attention to guest comfort. Overall, it was a great stay, and I would definitely recommend Smile Hotel Nagano to anyone visiting the city. I would love to stay here again!

Questo hotel è una scelta eccellente quando si trova a Nagano. La stanza è molto importante per il prezzo con la pulizia e si può sentire la bellezza dell'hotel di entrare attraverso le porte principali tutto il percorso verso la vostra stanza.
Camminando a distanza da molte aree interessanti come il tempio di Zenkoji e bellissime cibo intorno alla zona.
1 cosa estremamente turbante è che uno degli enormi specchi della tavola di assemblaggio era proprio davanti ai nostri letti che facevano la mia famiglia e io ho un soggiorno paranoico di notte; altrimenti tutto era di prima classe!

The hotel is nice, from the station about 10 minutes walk almost in a straight line, wake up. The room was originally wrong, it was reserved for smokers, even though we don't smoke, the room was given the appropriate one, the smell in it was just not very good, like for those who don't smoke at all, it started already on the floor.But the staff, fortunately, were able to find us a replacement for a non-smoking room, yes, less, yes one big bed instead of two, but with stunning mountain views and a coffee machine. The breakfast at the hotel is just as great, the cuisine is Japanese, diverse, there are many drinks, including fresh juices, many desserts.

Ho soggiornato in una camera semidoppia standard per 2 notti.
La posizione dalla finestra era deludente perché era al 4° piano 😢
La stanza era grande e bella.
Era bello poter sgranchirsi le gambe nella vasca da bagno, ma purtroppo la tenda della doccia puzzava di muffa.
Abbiamo fatto colazione a buffet nella posizione migliore all'ultimo piano!
Pensavo che 1.600 yen fossero un po' cari, ma il gusto era eccezionale!
Il riso alle castagne era davvero delizioso.
Penso che ordinerò di nuovo la prossima volta che verrò a Nagano.

I stayed in this hotel during snowboarding. The staffs were friendly, helpful, and professional. The breakfast was delightful and the dinner was great. I appreciated the ski and snowboard rental service. The room was very impressive.

La camera è confortevole e spaziosa.L'hotel offre anche igiene igienica e cura personale
prodotti. Buona posizione con punti di vista all'interno della distanza a piedi.
Al di sopra di questo, il personale era molto utile e paziente, mio figlio ha lasciato accidentalmente il suo giocattolo, e si sono allontanati dal loro modo per aiutarci a trovarlo.

Отель выглядит старым и не очень примечателен с улицы. Но японцы ооочень хорошо убираются и там крайне чисто. Конечно же расположение крайне удобно (в соседнем здании классный рамен). Также есть раритетная техника, например кран с двумя вентилями или старенький телевизор - аутентично. Из минусов - не удалось включить кондиционер на охлаждение, только на отопление.

UUtente ospiteSono un viaggiatore solitario che ha soggiornato nella stanza con bagno privato aperto. Mi sono divertito il mio soggiorno di 2 notti. Hotel sembra stanco e vecchio ma era tutto bene. IVA, devi usare una chiave per aprire la porta senza la carta di accesso.
Ho pagato per la mia stanza con colazione e cena. Ho un posto privato per cena in un ristorante che mi piace. Scappate tutte le coperte e mangio nello stesso posto per tutti i pasti. La cena era grande. La colazione era meravigliosa anche.
Ho provato il massaggio di una ora di giapponese e era così buono.
Non c'è nessuno che possa davvero parlare inglese. I clienti sono principalmente locali.
C'è una navetta libera per entrare e uscire.
In generale I dare 9/10!!

UUtente ospiteQuesto è il nostro primo viaggio in sci in Giappone. Questo hotel è stato situato perfettamente con grande accesso a alcune super strutture iniziali. Buono abbastanza per lo sci, l'hotel è perfetto e il personale è sorprendente. Il cibo e le strutture sono eccellenti. Abbiamo avuto una primavera calda privata ogni sera, davvero aggiunto al piacere. Mia moglie e io e mia figlia di otto anni avevamo un bel tempo per voi per la grande esperienza e per tutta l'ospitalità Perfetto Stai. 100%!!!

Meno di 10 minuti di auto dalla stazione Karuizawa, centro sci e Prince Shopping Plaza. L'hotel offre anche servizi di autobus a vela gratuito attraverso e verso la stazione Karuizawa che sono convenientemente accessibili al centro sci (servizi di autobus a vela gratuita al di fuori della stazione Karuizawa) e alla Prince Shopping Plaza (caccia di pietra dalla stazione Karuizawa).

UUtente ospiteI stayed at this hotel with my wife and two children during a two-night trip to Karuizawa in early February. The hotel is around 100 years old and its claim to fame is that John Lennon has stayed there. The piano that he played on is still in the bar.
Location: The hotel is near Old Ginza Street and around a 15-minutes drive from Karuizawa station. It was not difficult to find, but you must navigate a narrow approach to the hotel which is icy at this time of the year, so you must drive carefully.
Cleaniness: The staff told me that the hotel was only recently and everything was very clean and in good condition.
Service: The receptionist that conducted the check-in was probably the Japanese that spoke the best English that I had encountered on this trip. He spent a lot of time explaining the hotel to our family. The porter was also very helpful and polite. When we asked for extra toothbrushes and slippers for the children, housekeeping was very prompt in delivering them and even brought some children's robes for my sons.
Facilities: The hotel did not have many facilities. There is a small shop, a bar and a french restaurant but not much else. Some rooms had private hot springs in them and they gave us the opportunity to upgrade. Our room, had a small balcony even though we were on the ground floor. It looked onto a wooded area so there was not much to see, especially at night. However, when it snowed the next morning, my kids loved going out and playing in the snow. I was particularly impressed by the breakfast. It was a simple American breakfast very well presented. It was very pleasurable to look out into the inner courtyard with it was snowing.
Overall: I like this hotel as it has a lot of character. It is architecturally attractive and has kept a lot of its charm despite renovation. The staff are very professional and polite. I would stay in this hotel again.

OO.K. MACI’ve stayed at many ryokans throughout my travels—often making up half of each trip—but this one felt a bit different.
It seemed to be run by just one person, who I assume is the owner. Everything was self-service, which might be understandable considering it was the most affordable option among the ryokans in the area.
Most amenities required an extra fee, such as towels. Payment was made by dropping coins into a basket and making your own change, which wasn’t very convenient—especially since I didn’t carry much cash.
One thing I appreciated was the luggage delivery service. I was able to leave my bag at the lobby before check-out and have it sent to Toyama Station (for about 4,000 JPY, cash only).
What stood out was the creativity in the shared spaces. There were several common rooms designed for relaxing and spending time—perfect if you’re traveling with friends. You could play ping pong, read books, watch TV, or use the canteen, which had a microwave and dishes available.
They even had coin-operated massage chairs and a small fitness room.
However, I must mention two important downsides:
1. Limited nearby dining options – Many restaurants shown as open on Google Maps were actually closed. The only one that was open had extremely slow service—I waited nearly an hour for dinner.
2. Insects—large ones – Unfortunately, I encountered big insects in my room, which made it hard to sleep. (He even provided insect-catch tape for me while introduce the room) I stayed awake most of the night, worrying it might come back—especially stressful since I had to get up early the next morning to catch a bus to Ogizawa.
Minds you, stairs only, need to carry your luggage down by yourself.
Overall, while it offers good value for the area and has unique communal features, this ryokan may not suit travelers who prefer full service, cashless payment, or guaranteed comfort.

UUtente ospiteAltamente raccomandato! È un hotel a conduzione familiare e la proprietaria è molto gentile. All'inizio ero un po' preoccupato che potesse essere un po' vecchio, avendo aperto nel 1960, ma non lo è affatto. Lo stile dell'arredamento interno è molto giapponese.
L'hotel offre un pacchetto pasti che comprende cena e colazione, che vengono consegnate in camera. Personalmente, penso che il pasto sia stato così così. La cena era solo Sukiyaki, qualche fetta di sushi al salmone e qualche contorno. Non mi sentivo sazio. La colazione è molto varia e viene presentata in una graziosa scatola.
L'hotel dispone di un bagno privato dove è possibile fare il bagno. Nella stanza c'è solo uno spazio per lavarsi le mani. Dovrebbe esserci un solo bagno su ogni piano, separato per uomini e donne, e molto pulito. Oltre alla sorgente termale privata dell'hotel, vi verrà data anche una chiave per aprire altre sorgenti termali della città. Non è possibile fare il bagno nelle sorgenti termali della città.
Al momento del check-in, la responsabile confermerà con voi l'orario del bagno privato, la colazione del mattino seguente e l'orario in cui accompagnarvi alla stazione. La proprietaria vi chiederà attentamente dove state andando, poi vi dirà l'orario di partenza corrispondente e poi procederà a ritroso a partire da quell'orario di partenza.
L'unica cosa da tenere a mente è che la capo e suo figlio non capiscono molto bene l'inglese, quindi se non capisci il giapponese, avrai bisogno di un traduttore. Questo giocatore 2D pensa che la capoccia parli molto chiaramente in giapponese, un linguaggio molto più facile da capire rispetto alla parte di comprensione orale del test di giapponese.

UUtente ospiteWe spent 2 nights in Prince after first 2 nights in Kusatsu onsen town. The hotel looked underwhelming on arrival and the front office service was efficient but cursory compared to the warm hospitality we had in the ryokan stay. It was low season and hotel was very quiet and had a ”cold” atmosphere.
I was further disappointed when we were shown our room which was on the lowest floor with a simple garden view. On requesting the check-in staff for a change of room on higher floor and a more scenic view, I was told there is an upgrade charge, which I accepted. The new room was the same size and configuration but on a higher floor with a nice view of Mt Asama. While I was happy to pay the fee, I can't help but compare their practice with all the hotels that I have stayed in all these years, where room changes were complimentary so long as the room type remains the same. Nevertheless, the hotel's facilities delighted me immensely and I enjoyed the overall experience.
The highlight of the hotel stay was the fantastic view of Asama in a high ceiling dining room with full glass window. We were able to have different table seatings for both morning breakfast as the hotel occupancy was low, which gave us different perspectives of the scenery.
The other highlight of the hotel is the onsen facility which is located in a separate building on higher ground, accessible via a self service automated tram. Aside from Asama view in the outdoor onsens, there is a common lounge which has equally awesome view of Asama. We enjoyed our time soaking in onsen and resting in the lounge.

I would go back to Prince Asama and experience the scenery during a different season!
