The definite highlight was the spa area with the outdoor bath overlooking the city. The amenities were very plenty and the staff was extremely helpful. The location is convenient but there was no direct on site parking available (but discounted parking for near public parking). Everything was great but there were security cameras in the changing rooms and spa areas which one might find a bit strange or uncomfortable.
Excellent amenities and location. With a coffee machine and water machine at lobby for customers. Also have a microwave oven and cutlery at lobby. So caring for customers. Many choices of food for breakfast. Many shops along the way from Oita station to hotel.
Will definitely return!!!
Reviews often mention dust - this is true, unfortunately. Perhaps the reason is that the rooms are cleaned by old people, and they simply do not have time to do everything. When entering the room, we felt stuffy smell of dusty carpets. I took a rag and wiped all the carpets from dust to make it fresher.
It is also inconvenient that the dryer in the laundry room does not dry things after washing even in two drying cycles. If you load a full tank, keep this in mind. We had to hang things all over the room.
The reusable indoor slippers were torn.
Apart from this, everything is fine. The hotel is located 10 minutes walk from the station along the main street - easy to find. On the first floor you can take necessary amenities of high quality for free.
The room with two beds is small, the suitcase can only be opened close to the door.
Designed hotel i love bamboo structure. Location was in the small alley no parking at the hotel but they have partner parking that can get the discount when you stay at the hotel (600yen per night). Staff was very helpful. The amenities space is amazing, public bath on 14F and rooftop pool. Hotel has free yukata rental( it was beautiful dress)
The hotel is spacious and very comfortable. The location is good and parking ample and free. The service receptionists and managers are very polite.
We stayed here for 3 nights and will recommend others to stayed here.
Hello, everyone!
We recently stayed at this hotel, and the experience was mixed — there are some nice touches, but also noticeable shortcomings.
**Room:**
The room was spacious but clearly outdated; furniture and interior look worn. The ventilation works, yet it still feels quite stuffy inside. It would be great if the hotel improved air-conditioning or installed mosquito screens: the sea view is beautiful, but opening the window isn’t an option because of too many insects.
**Facilities & Service:**
The only real extras are massage service and a shared onsen. There’s no gym, pool, or other activities — the hotel is designed for quiet relaxation. A shuttle service is available, which is convenient, but if you miss it, getting to the hotel on your own can be quite difficult. During this stay the hotel was quite busy, and it often took a long time to catch the elevator to our floor.
**Dining:**
Breakfast and dinner can be pre-booked; the food was tasty and varied. The bar offers a pleasant atmosphere with a decent drink selection, and in the evening the lobby lounge opens with alcoholic drinks and light snacks — a nice way to unwind after a day of sightseeing.
**Location:**
The property faces Beppu Bay, yet the seaside feeling is limited — there are few walking areas nearby, and due to insects it’s hard to enjoy the open air.
**Overall:**
A good option for a calm, onsen-style getaway with decent food and polite staff, but when the hotel is crowded, the lack of facilities and outdated rooms become more noticeable. With some modernization and better infrastructure, this could be an excellent resort.
Molto buono

UUtente anonimoMy stay at Kannawaen Beppu was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. From the convenient shuttle van to the bus station to the thoughtful small amenities provided, every detail was handled with care.
I especially loved the traditional ryokan experience—wearing a yukata to both dinner and breakfast made it feel truly authentic. The onsen was relaxing and beautifully maintained, adding to the peaceful atmosphere. The location is great too—just a short walk from Jigoku (the famous ”hells” of Beppu).
Dinner was a highlight: the teppanyaki course was not only delicious but well worth the money. The traditional Japanese breakfast the next morning was equally impressive—fresh, flavorful, and unlike anything you’d find at a typical hotel.
Kannawaen is perfect for a short escape, whether you’re seeking relaxation, cultural experience, or both. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Beppu!
UUtente anonimogood value for money! would definitely stay again
location: it's relatively further from the station , around a 8-10min walk. there is a 7-11 just around the corner
room: my room came without a bathroom but for the ladies are 3 cubicles shared among the 7 mix gendered guests on the floor. i did not have to wait in line at all. there was more than enough space in the room to open my suitcase wide and still feel comfortable. bed and pillow was a bit hard though, and you can hear anyone talking loudly downstairs outside the building as the room is on 2nd floor, tho that doesnt happen very often.
food: amazing balanced breakfast that changes everyday - really delicious!
onsen: the one on 2F was smaller than 1F, but very good and comfortable. clean too. you can book a private onsen room for 500yen (50mins)
staff: all of them were super friendly, helpful and made me feel welcome. there are english-proficient staff available 24H as well :)
UUtente ospiteAmazing experience ✨ Warm Welcome by Ms . 西河。During stay also greeted by her . She clearly explained the entired hotel facilities and introduced features of hotel. Which made me felt comfortable. Thank you. I definitely will come back again
UUtente ospiteChe piacevole sorpresa. 😃
UUtente ospiteHotel surroundings and cleanliness was top notch.
Dinner and breakfast set were amazingly tasteful and filling. Food served was fresh and served based on our eating pace. All the staff are all well versed with English and friendly with our request.
The onsen itself was great but the entrance to the men and ladies onsen was just next to each other. Ladies privacy could be easily violated as the main door was the see-through type. We were not feeling quite comfortable with the entrance layout.
A partire dal 9 dicembre, non c'era spazio per lavarmi all'interno, ma c'era una sorgente termale privata all'esterno. Ho pensato: come posso lavarmi?
UUtente ospiteWe had a great 2 nights stay at this Ryokan. Location was near Yufuin Floral Village, and around 20 mins walk from Yufuin JR station. It was a nice walk to Yufuin JR station as there were many shops and eateries that you can visit along the way. Alternatively, there is also bus 36 from Yufuin but terminal that would stop near to the ryokan.
The staff were really outstanding, friendly and helpful. When we arrived, a couple of them rushed to help us with our luggage and to also shelter us from the rain. During the entire stay, they made us feel very welcomed.
The Western/Japanese room that we booked was very spacious and had all the amenities we required. Note that this is a 2 storey living area - level 1 had a bathroom with private indoor and outdoor onsen as well as the living room, while level 2 had a toilet (w/o bath) and 1 western bedroom as well as 1 Japanese bedroom.
There are 4 public onsen in the ryokan. 2 for female and 2 for male. They would rotate it during the day and night to allow everyone to try out the different onsen.
We also had our breakfast and dinner at the ryokan as part of the package. The dishes were different on both days. The spread was huge and food tasted great. Note that there are very few places open at Yufuin during dinner time.
