Hotel a Vieques, Portorico

Our stay at the Vieques Guest House was exceptional. This was our first time visiting Puerto Rico and Vieques and we are really happy that we ended up at the guest house. Amanda is a fantastic host and from the moment we arrived gave us an overview of the island, its beaches, hikes, and other recommendations. We stayed for four nights and the guest house provided a warm and comfortable environment to wake up each morning and come back to each night. It was really nice getting to know the staff over breakfast and coffee each morning. Speaking of breakfast ..... chef Stephanie is amazing! Her cooking got us off to a great start each morning. Glo, who works the counter at breakfast also gave us helpful tips about the island, including the local spots to check out. Chatting with Glo and running into her around Esperanza throughout the week made us feel at home. The location was perfect, we could easily walk to all the bars and restaurants and several beaches, yet it was just far enough away that it was calm and peaceful at night. We rented a golf cart from UTV rentals for our trip and were to able to park it in the lot right across from the guest house, which made coming and going a breeze. The fresh beach towels and stopping in for coffee in the late afternoons was a nice bonus. There is a grocery store / market within a 5 minute walk that had everything we needed, and having fridge & freezer in the room allowed us to stock up for our beach excursions for the week. We spent our last two nights in Vieques on the north side of the island, which was a great experience and beautiful. Yet, we kept saying that we wished we had stayed put at the guest house for the entire stay on the island. We cannot wait to come back and stay at the Vieques Guest House again!

I picked this hotel in Esperanza hoping it would be more quiet than guest rooms above restaurants/bars along the malecon *****, as well as being adults only. Cars still drove by around the corner blaring loud music, but not terribly late. Roosters announce the sunrise, but we didn't notice while using white noise. Our Esquina (corner) room was serviceable and had an industrial concrete feel which matches the description and photos online. We were not able to select a room with an ocean view but had one tiny corner of the balcony where you could see water if you squinted. The better view was from the roof where we enjoyed live music one evening, and the hot tub to ourselves later that night. Towels and beach chairs to borrow were a nice touch, which we used daily. We did not eat in the hotel restaurant, instead tried a different place along the boardwalk each of 3 nights. We were not able to take advantage of morning coffee: it did not open until 8am and we were already gone for the day to our activities by then. A Keurig in the room to make tea would have been appreciated. The bathroom was very small: there was a half door on the shower and water would go all over the floor. Water temperature was unpredictable; they even had to provide notes on how to get hot water for the shower. We rented a car for our stay; the hotel does not have a parking lot, but there is a public dirt parking lot directly across the street that had plenty of available parking every day. Overall I was mostly satisfied with this funky-looking hotel as a base for our activities on beautiful Vieques.
