Welcome to the Irondale Manor, an 1870s farmhouse with modern touches. While only half a mile from Millerton's Main St, one of America's coolest small towns, the house sits on over 7 acres with gorgeous views of the Berkshires. The house is great for staying in with a cozy living room, game room, and year round porch built for curling up with a book and a cup of tea (Check out the Harney & Son's flagship location around the corner). There is a hot tub, and fire pit and an above ground pool open in the summer months. But, if you're looking to explore other small towns, Millerton is centrally located and is roughly 30 minutes from Rhinebeck and Millbrook, Great Barrington, Stockbridge, and Lakeville. Not to mention nearby Catamount Ski resort, multiple golf courses including Copake Country Club, and hiking trails including the Rail Trail that is accessible right in Millerton. Need extra space? The sunroom includes a sofa bed for additional guests.Beyond the house, a secluded back deck invites you to unwind amidst a wild hill garden that spills over onto the space. Stone steps lead up to a peaceful, leveled lawn dotted with native flora and towering trees. Once, a narrow-gauge railway passed through this land, carrying milk from the region’s dairy farms to the city. A second intimate side deck, nestled under a canopy of trees, overlooks a sun-dappled lawn.This is not your typical upstate retreat. The landscape is lush and untamed, alive with the sights and sounds of nature. Peacocks wander through, adding to the exotic charm. The surrounding black walnut, spruce, maple, and willow trees create a natural sanctuary for birds and small wildlife. Expect an immersive experience—more woodland escape than manicured garden.The cottage is located on a scenic country road, surrounded by rolling hills and horse farms—perfect for leisurely walks and cycling. It sits within the quaint, sought-after hamlet of Shekomeko, a historic “bend in the road” with a peaceful, timeless feel. The owner’s home is next door, ensuring attentive hospitality if needed.Reaching the Peacock Garden Cottage is easy. It’s just over a two-hour drive from NYC, or you can take the Metro-North train to Wassaic, followed by a short taxi ride. The charming towns of Millerton (home to antique stores and the Millerton Movie House) and Pine Plains (featuring the acclaimed Stissing House Restaurant and Stissing Center for Arts & Culture) are both nearby. A short drive west brings you to Hudson, Rhinebeck, and Red Hook, while heading east takes you to Sharon, Lakeville, and Salisbury, Connecticut. Great Barrington, with its boutique shopping, is just 40 minutes away. Outdoor enthusiasts will find an abundance of hiking trails, and the historic Lime Rock racetrack is a quick 25-minute drive.
