"Ho prenotato un soggiorno di 3 notti, il check-in è stato piacevole e tempestivo. Una volta raggiunta la stanza, il water era intasato, il vetro del bagno era ammuffito. Il resto della stanza era ok ma c'era un odore di odore proveniente dalla moquette. La TV era come un modello obsoleto e la ricezione era orribile e poco chiara, cosa che non otteniamo al giorno d'oggi se non negli anni '80 o '90. La colazione era davvero semplice, dovresti saltarla e non sembra quella di un hotel. Ho fatto il check-out anticipato di un giorno e ho prenotato un altro hotel perché non mi sento bene."

Specifically love the water dispenser at each floor, convenient enough to get hot water and as an effort to reduce single use plastic bottles.

"Hotel minimal ma efficiente. Location pratica, praticamente alla fine di Chulia Street, colazione un po’ scarsa. Unico inconveniente dei vicini di stanza che hanno avuto la brillante idea di fumare in stanza ed attraverso i condotti del bagno il fumo arrivava anche nel mio bagno. Dopo aver avvisato la reception, attraverso una mail perché il telefono della stanza non funzionava, una persona della security è venuta da me chiedendomi di scendere in reception. Avrebbero potuto spostarmi direttamente in un’altra stanza senza la sosta in reception a mezzanotte con tutte le mie borse. Comunque nel complesso mi sono trovata bene e ci ritornerei."

"Ottima posizione che offre ai viaggiatori comodità. A pochi passi da molti ristoranti e Art Street. Il centro commerciale 1st avenue proprio accanto ha molti servizi come cinema, karaoke, negozi, caffè, farmacie e supermercati. Siamo stati qui per 2 notti e 1 notte in un altro hotel sul mare che costa il doppio ma mi piace di più l'hotel Jen per la sua posizione perfetta. "L'addetto alla reception che ci ha accolto durante il check-in è stato memorabile in modo negativo. O era arrabbiata con noi che chiamavamo in anticipo e chiedevamo un check-in anticipato oppure ci trattava in modo abbastanza poco professionale in base alla nostra posizione sociale. È vero che la mia amica che era con me è figlia di un VIP che non sente il bisogno di vantarsi del suo status, ma anche lei è rimasta perplessa dal trattamento poco amichevole. Mr Putasnen Nagadaran was exceptionally helpful and proactive. He made sure my early check-in request was fulfilled with a clean room ready upon arrival, and he even greeted me by name when he saw me in the corridor while he was checking other rooms. He took the time to respond to my email sent late at night—while I was out during the day—with detailed information about nearby parking options in case the hotel’s lot was full.
We’ll be returning because of Mr Putasnen’s outstanding service, not because of the hotel itself.

"Had a lovely stay here. The room was clean, spacious, and beautifully done up, really loved the calm, cosy vibe. The café food was tasty with good portions and fair pricing. Location made it easy to get around. There was no in-room WiFi and the TV wasn’t usable due to some maintenance, but I was mostly out, so it didn’t affect me much. The staff were warm, polite, and quick to help with anything I needed. Overall, it was a comfortable and pleasant experience. Would be happy to stay again the next time I’m in the area!"

UUtente ospitePer la prima volta, soggiornando al Grand Old Lady di Penang, celebrando il suo 140° anniversario. Stavo per 2 notti e l'esperienza è stata grande. La stanza era spaziosa e confortevole, affrontando il mare e si sveglia ai suoni delle onde di crollo. Il servizio era eccellente. Il colazione era grande, con la cassa da cuoco a ordinare coay teaw e roti canai, oltre alla stazione standard di uova. L'hotel è stato strategico, con molte opzioni alimentari un semplice Grab passeggiata. L'unica cosa mancante era la TV, la macchina del caffè e il frigo nella stanza, tutti dei quali potevano essere aggiornati.

AamychowkwMy last stay at Ascott Gurney Penang was in Oct 2024. I travelled with a girlfriend and it was my first time staying. The experience was fantastic (the room view, the service provided, the cleanliness of the room, the pool and gym facilities etc) thus, this time I brought back my family and my in-laws to stay again (3 rooms).
Was slightly disappointed this time.
1. The rooms assigned this time were not great, all low floors and the views were restricted (my last stay the room view was superb!)
2. There were lots of birds in the swimming pool area and I think the hotel should do something about it. There were droppings on the floor around the pool and after swimming for a short while, I felt uncomfortable as I could see something floating in the pool as well so I left….
3. On the 2nd day morning, servicing staff promptly made up my room but not on the 3nd day morning. I was out between 10am to 1pm and was surprised to see that the room was not cleaned. I had to personally go down to the front desk to make the request to clean up…
But overall, the service was still good, staff were courteous and helpful in general.
I recommended Ascott Gurney to my husband this time, but he was quite disappointed with Ascott Gurney Penang, especially with reasons listed above and still prefer The George Penang where we stayed in end 2023 instead.

RRaphayInnanzitutto, un sentito ringraziamento al signor Vickneswaran del team di sicurezza per la sua calorosa guida e assistenza fin dal momento in cui siamo entrati nel parcheggio. È stato incredibilmente disponibile nell'indicarci dove andare e ci ha fatto sentire i benvenuti fin dall'inizio.
Con mia sorpresa, uno dei membri dello staff ha persino condiviso una fetta di torta e ci ha augurato una meravigliosa luna di miele: un gesto davvero premuroso! (Ero così commossa che ho dimenticato di chiedere il nome del personale). Momenti come questi hanno reso il nostro soggiorno davvero memorabile.
Nel complesso, il personale è stato sinceramente cordiale e disponibile e ci ha fatto sentire apprezzati durante tutta la nostra visita. Ho anche allegato una foto del delizioso biglietto di auguri che abbiamo ricevuto dal team: un altro dolce gesto che ricorderemo per sempre.
Grazie ancora a tutto il team per aver fatto iniziare la nostra luna di miele con una così calorosa ospitalità!

UUtente ospiteLooking at the review of hotels in Malaysia, there seem to be tons of people giving negative reviews for almost every hotel so was pretty wary of booking this hotel and all the other ones I stayed at! However, I found that this was a decent hotel albeit with some minor problems.
To start with the good. The hotel is well constructed, by that I mean the rooms and walls are made of good material so that generally sound from other rooms or outside is not an issue. This is my main concern, because you must be able to sleep peacefully or live in your room without being disturbed by neighbours or the outside, that should be the primary goal of any hotel. The room size is also very large, although I found small things like the funny diagonal shaped desk not to be practical because it was too small to use comfortably. Also, you cannot connect your laptop to the TV with and HDMI because the TV is fixed to the wall.
I had some small issues with a blocked basin and the shower hose was broken, but these were resolved after a couple of visits. I needed to persuade maintenance man to change the hose, which I thought was strange as it was obviously broken. He called in housekeeping afterwards to clean up some of the water on the floor that came from the work. The cleaner used one of the body towels to wipe up the water. I said that he should at least use the floor towel and not the ones for the body. He said it was ”Just water”. As someone who is prone to eczema, I have to be careful about detergents and what I put on my skin. If this is something that house cleaning do regularly, this would be a problem for me. (I did start getting some skin issues here, but cannot say for certain it was due to the hotel).
There was also some old stains on the bed sheets that I had to ask to be changed. Bed sheets like that need to be either bleached or thrown away. They may not pose any health risks but no one wants to sleep on visibly stained sheets. Also, the small sofa bench on at the foot of the bed was heavily stained and really needs to be re-furbished.
The breakfast was okay. I remember the dining area which is nice, but not much of the actual food. I just like eggs, toast, fruit and coffee.
The check-in is on the 20th floor, so you will probably only see the managers when you check-in and when you check-out. I had a nice Indian lady check me in. I saw one other man manager, portly Indian man, there when I tried to extend by one night, who I found to be less friendly.
I would stay here again, as the problems were minor. (I also stayed at the Citadines, which I absolutely do not recommend).

However, there is some thing broken in the room, like the toilet hook is not useable, the shower head not user friendly (too low). If you shower more than 10min, it will flood.
However again, there is a big issue for travel who drive the car there. Cause the hotel is not prove parking. Even there is space in the hotel, but is still park at your own, caused there is no proper parking for customer. And I saw the city council did towing a car away due to illegal parking, can’t really relax and feel safe when your car is parked road side or not proper space in hotel.

HHewHotel decente con interni gradevoli, ma gestione scadente
Abbiamo prenotato una camera doppia e ci siamo rimasti per due notti. Sebbene gli interni e la posizione fossero discreti per un hotel a 3 stelle, l'esperienza è stata complessivamente deludente a causa del servizio e della gestione scadenti.
Innanzitutto, la reception ci ha fornito solo una tessera per la nostra camera. Anche dopo aver spiegato che saremmo usciti separatamente, hanno affermato di essere a corto di tessere e di aver dovuto conservarle per gli ospiti in arrivo. Ho soggiornato in innumerevoli hotel nel corso degli anni e non mi sono mai trovato in una situazione del genere. Un amico che ha soggiornato qui anni fa ha avuto lo stesso problema, quindi è chiaro che la situazione persiste da anni. Le tessere non sono costose o speciali: l'hotel ha solo circa 50 camere, quindi non ci sono scuse per non averne abbastanza. A peggiorare le cose, fanno pagare RM50 per ogni tessera smarrita!
La nostra camera doppia aveva due letti singoli super, che potrebbero risultare angusti per gli ospiti più grandi, quindi è un aspetto da tenere a mente.
Un altro problema era la porta della camera, che non si chiude automaticamente. Bisogna tirarla e controllarla manualmente per assicurarsi che sia sicura, cosa che non ci si aspetterebbe da un hotel moderno.
La nostra prima mattina, il personale delle pulizie ha bussato e suonato il campanello alle 10:00 chiedendo di pulire la camera. Certo, ci siamo dimenticati di appendere il cartello ”Non disturbare”, ma le 10:00 sembrano troppo presto. Di solito le pulizie non sono programmate dopo mezzogiorno?
Non vale la pena pagare un extra per la colazione. Il cibo non era appetitoso e il caffè era pessimo, quindi abbiamo saltato completamente la colazione il secondo giorno.
Ciò che ci ha scioccato di più è stato tornare in camera e trovarla completamente aperta dopo le pulizie, perché non l'avevano chiusa completamente. Per fortuna non mancava nulla, ma a quel punto eravamo troppo esausti per sollevare il problema, soprattutto perché il personale della reception si era già mostrato riluttante ad aiutarci. Non potevano fornirci una tessera magnetica aggiuntiva, eppure in qualche modo non si sono fatti problemi a lasciare la nostra camera senza sicurezza. È una grave mancanza sia nella sicurezza che nell'assistenza di base agli ospiti.
In sintesi: nonostante gli interni gradevoli e la posizione favorevole, la gestione è decisamente carente. Per essere una struttura a tre stelle, il servizio sembra più quello di una a una stella. Con opzioni migliori disponibili a Georgetown, consiglierei di soggiornare altrove per un'esperienza più affidabile e curata.

IIsabelleyishaLa posizione dell'hotel è proprio nel punto caldo di Georgetown. Ma di notte c'è rumore fino alle 2 del mattino. Quindi, se hai intenzione di festeggiare di notte, è l'ideale e si trova a pochi passi da Love Lane e da tutte le aree turistiche di Georgetown.
Ma se desiderate dormire e rilassarvi dopo la mezzanotte sicuramente non è l'hotel adatto a voi.
La camera era OK in termini di dimensioni, ma molte zanzare provenivano dallo scarico del bagno. Ne ho uccisi almeno 50 grazie ad una zanzariera 🤣 Il consiglio è chiudere le tende del bagno così non entrano in camera da letto.
L'umidità nella stanza aveva la vernice scrostata.
Considerato il prezzo, non credo che la qualità della camera fosse sufficiente. Specialmente per la combinazione di umidità e zanzare.
Il menù della colazione non era disponibile ma potete tranquillamente andare in fondo alla strada e mangiare comodamente oppure ordinare con l'applicazione grab. Nessun bar disponibile nell'hotel.
Le aree comuni sono pulite. Mi è piaciuto che devi toglierti le scarpe all'ingresso.
Ci sono delle scale per entrare nell'hotel ma ti aiutano con i bagagli. La prima volta che arrivi devi suonare il campanello affinché ti aprano. Piccola porta all'inizio non facile da individuare. Suggerisco all'hotel di attaccare il nome direttamente sulla porta all'altezza degli occhi e in grande per evitare confusione. Ho caricato una foto della porta per non perderti.
Dopo aver effettuato il check-in ti daranno il codice della porta così facile da farti passare.
Il personale è stato utile quando richiesto ma non interagendo o dando suggerimenti o chiedendoti come stanno andando le cose.
Ho valutato la pulizia nella media perché quando sono arrivato c'erano molti capelli in bagno. Ho dovuto letteralmente toglierlo per 5 minuti. Capelli lunghi e folti... Non sono sicuro di come abbiano fatto a non notarlo.
A parte questo stavano pulendo bene il resto del soggiorno.
Internet non era facile da ottenere quando si era in camera, ma nelle aree comuni o vicino alla porta della stanza funziona meglio. Non risparmiare sulla sim e comprala in aeroporto per avere sempre internet sul tuo cellulare. Ti aiuterà comunque con le mappe e fuori.
Il taxi dall'aeroporto era molto comodo a soli 30 minuti e ho ordinato con il servizio di presa arrivato entro 5 minuti.

EErwan MajeedSiamo arrivati verso le 18:00 e il check-in è stato fantastico. Abbiamo avuto una camera al piano superiore come richiesto. Bella vista sulla piscina. Non abbiamo fatto colazione perché avevamo intenzione di uscire a mangiare a quell'ora. Nel complesso è stato un bel posto in cui soggiornare, soprattutto la posizione era superba.

The frustrating thing is the main light switches are at the entrance door and you have to get out of the bed to switch them on or off. CCHONG CHING3 Days 2 nights stay at Chulia Mansion Georgetown
We booked 2 superior rooms for 2 nights via trip.com for Rm644.40 or Rm161.10/room/night . We checked in to Room 207 and room 215 upon arrival.
Once the door of Room 207 was opened, a bad odour full of stingy smell appeared. We did not care to take action at that moment. We went out for good food. After coming back to hotel to rest, we tried to check whereabout the smell coming from, and to take action by closing the toilet door from that moment thru the night. Sad to say, the stingy smell was still there all night long, and I could not have a good night sleep thru the night while surrounded with bad odour.
On top of that, the toilet shower rubber hose was cracked and water rushed out during our shower in day time.
The following day, I went to the lobby to tell the hotel lady, all the facts and request to change to another room. The lady checked the hotel computer system and told me that the hotel was fully booked a night before once housekeeping was done, they will give me a new room. That was roughly 12 noon. So, they tell me to go back to stay in room 207 to rest, and to wait for her call.
At 12 something , one man knocked on my door and sprayed our room 207 with air freshener, changed the hose and left.
By 1pm, I was uneasy and I went to the Lobby to follow up with the change of room. The same lady was watching something like movie her table, I asked her why nothing done to call and inform me to change to a new room. She raised her head and looked at me and said that the housekeeper informed her that there was nothing wrong with the room.
At that moment, my temper was up and I told her firmly and repeatedly that i want to change to a new room.
The next thing happened was that we were checked into room 315. We were lucky and happy that room 315 has no bad stingy smell. However, the shower hose in the room 315 was rosak then again I told the lobby about the facts.
So, moral of my stay is to follow up with the LOBBY all issues and defect in the hotel room that I feel unhappy with.
The whole purpose of the stay is to get happiness and relax by paying cash that worth the value, and not wait until check out to complain.
Last but not least, room 215 facing the street also noisy due to the sound and noise coming from motorcycle , cars and vehicles during daytime outside street, and also live band, loud music and pub. You can also hear music and live band coming from the roof of Chulia Mansion building itself.
Finally, I think if you are a light sleeper this hotel definitely is not your choice.
