Vanessa at the front desk was friendly from the time we walked in to leaving the hotel to get food. She recommended quite a few places to go for food (of all kinds) and beer. She is very knowledgeable about the area! I can’t wait to come back and stay at this property!

they helped me out. The staff was amazing. Kudos to Kevin, Tish, Olivia, and Chris. They dropped me off at work and picked me up. They are accommodating. The hotel is close to restaurants. The breakfast was delicious. Would highly recommend it. I had a nice quiet room. I just wished they had an in room safe. Parking is plenty. They are cheaper than if you get a regular ticket and stay 24 hours. They also allowed me to keep the same room due to the storm. Great customer service and would highly recommend staying here.

My family (including a baby) were traveling west and stopped at the Holiday Inn in Des Moines along the way. The staff was friendly, and the room was comfortable and quiet. You could tell it was a bit older, but still very nice. We ordered from the restaurant, which was decent. I would not recommend it unless you wanted to stay close to the property for the evening. There are better options if you venture out a bit. I did experience an issue during my stay. Around 4 AM, while I was caring for my infant daughter I saw a mouse in our room. I went down to the front desk and alerted staff of the issue, and they informed me they encountered the issue on two other occasions primarily on the second and third floors. They offered to move us to another room, which we did. We were also offered free breakfast coupon, money off our bill, and additional rewards points. We did not receive the additional money off the bill or rewards points. After contacting the hotel about it, I did not receive a response. Overall, the hotel was quiet, comfortable and staff was friendly. However, I cannot recommend staying here until the rodent issue is handled.

We travel a lot and stay at many places. We wanted a sample of a bed and breakfast and a more traditional stay while going to our Godchild's wedding. It is an older Victorian house with about 15 rooms, which does give breakfast. Here are a few items that need to be attended to to bring this facility up to par. The wallpaper in our room and the hallways were starting to peel away and instead of gluing, they put matching tape to hold it together, there were stains on the rugs in our room and holes in the carpet in the halls. On each floor, the fixtures, old as they be, did'nt have matching bulbs, or many bulbs were missing. So the lighting was off. The shower caulk in our bathtub was moldy. The left handle on the sink was loose and came off. The ceiling above our bed was patched and not repainted so there were two different colors. The chairs were antique, for the ambiance, but they could not be sat on. The owner needs to put more money into restoring this location. Also, communication with the bed and breakfast was different. Every time I would call, the owner would just text me. I had to get all the info, and codes to get into the place by text. It would have been nice to get this info ahead of time and maybe have a copy in the room as well as how to use the TV, because it was apple tv. Also, there is no AC in this old house, which we understood, but there were portable AC units in halls and rooms, we were hoping that the electric panels could take all of these plug ins, along with microwave and refrigerators in the rooms. No one is ever at the front desk, you can only text him to talk. Not personable, I understand because of covid, but we felt that we were let alone in the house with no one at the desk. He just told us that we can text if we need anything. I had to text and ask for my receipt after I got home. I probably would not stay here again. Needs work and better communication.

My husband and I were in Ames for a wedding and to celebrate my/our birthday with my twin. The Gateway was near the wedding venue as well as the Iowa State campus. We had a wonderful stay. Like many hotels now, they do not offer daily room servicing, but we are accustomed to that - gotta change with the times! There was clear notification in our room that daily room Our room was spotlessly clean, well stocked, and with a very comfortable bed and linens. When we needed it, we had very prompt service. Our remote for the TV didn't work, and the maintenance worker was at our room in five minutes or less to exchange it. We ran out of coffee to have for our second morning, and the front desk person said they'd bring it right up, and we knew they meant it. We told them we were just going out, so we'd stop at the desk to get it. They had it ready and waiting for us. All the staff was so friendly and helpful. Our room had been recently updated, including the bathroom, and we loved the convenience of a huge vanity with plenty of room for makeup, etc. The shower was large and elegant, unique in several way, including the ability to switch from a rain shower head to hand held. We loved the barn door effect on the bathroom. We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel restaurant and cocktails in the bar after we returned from the wedding. Savannah, the bartender, was friendly and served us some drinks of her own design. Wait staff at both meals did an outstanding job. Overall, we had a simply wonderful stay. Our only recommendation would be to have both elevators running, but even with just one, it was not a real inconvenience. We'll be back and highly recommend the hotel, restaurant, and bar.

Plenty of eateries within walking distance.staff pleasant and eager to please. Ice and soda machines on each floor. Plenty of tables and chairs outside of room.

This location was by far one of our best hotel nights on our trip headed up to Minnesota. The hotel is located in an area where it is situated amongst a mixed living community. Hospital, stores, shopping, eating, apartments, hiking, breweries and more. Finding the hotel was easy, the not so easy was finding the parking. Once we checked in getting directions to the parking location was a little difficult. Based on reviews I had read prior, I knew that it was behind the hotel. What would be helpful is perhaps a map of the area and the parking. After a few missed turns we are able to determine the proper spot for parking. This because our initial parking was further down the block than where we checked in. The check in process was easy, other than the vague parking directions. Our room was clean and bright, overlooking the parking lot. The bed was comfortable with various pillow options to choose from. The comforter was the perfect lightness to keep us warm but not heavy. Breakfast was pleasant a nice variety and tasty options for breakfast. A large area to eat, visit, and sit was available in this area. Based on our experience with Homestead Suites, I've been making a point to stay at other Hilton branded locations on the rest of our trip. For us it was an A+ experience all around.

This is a beautiful brand new hotel which happens to be next to an active train line. A quick glance at Google Earth shows that the tracks are 175 feet from the hotel room windows. Depending on your tolerance for noise, this might be a problem for you. I hesitated to write this review but my experience in calling the hotel in advance makes it necessary. When we booked the hotel, I noticed the nearby train tracks and called the front desk to ask if this was still an active line. One woman told me that she had never seen a train come through and another employee said she had never had a complaint about train noise. The evening we were checking in a freight train came through. The morning we checked out a train came through at 6:00 AM. Since this is an urban area, I believe the trains have a speed limit of 25 MPH. The noise is not deafening, just rumbling annoying. If you don't mind a little rumbling noise, be sure to ask for a room on the side of the hotel away from the tracks. Once again, other than the train issue this is a great hotel. I just wish that the hotel employees would have been more up-front with me about the trains.
