We enjoyed our stay at Starfish Varadero, but with that said things are not what they used to be here. We have been to SFV a handful of times pre pandemic. A good week, but probably wont be the next choice for our stay. Food was tasty for the most part, but definitely lacking in variety and not near the selection of items that there was before. Many days no cheese, not much variety in veggies (mostly eggplant, pumpkin, and cabbage), no bacon at breakfast, omelettes made to order but only thing to put in them were peppers, toaster didn't work, and no butter or condiments, over cooked pork, pool bar only had fries one day (said no potatoes) and some bars couldn't make certain drinks due to lack of supply. I totally understand the country has food shortages and issues, but being that we stayed at another resort a few months ago which didn’t have nearly as many issues as here, we were surprised. We did very much enjoy the daily bbq at Sizzlers with fresh grilled chicken and pork, and the soups were always great. Hats off to the head chef at Sizzlers! If you come to Starfish, you will not go hungry, just bear in mind your dining options are limited. We did have several enjoyable meals, but its very repetitive. I used to love the variety of veg and salads but its minimal now. Even the pizza is no longer pizza…. Its bread with no cheese or sauce, just a few toppings. The a la cart dinner at Spoons was good, and the food presentation was lovely.... One of us had chicken which was fantastic, the other had beef which was so tough it was inedible. Dinner at Milans was pasta, and was what one would expect of pasta. Both a la carts were decent but nothing spectacular. I remember many more menu selections at these a la carts in past visits. Food was a little underwhelming overall. The service was fantastic though, so thank you for that! Sunwing customer get a special dinner. We were advised that theres no longer a dinner for repeat customers. We emailed the hotel customer service ahead of time to see about an upgrade to a bungalow and also put in a special room request but that was unsuccessful. Upon arrival the front desk staff advised the resort was at capacity so we weren't able to have our wishes fulfilled. With this said, we were given a very nice room in the main building so thankful for that. The front desk staff are friendly and try their best to please guests. Pools were both kept clean and the grounds are well manicured. The beach is beautiful, the only thing that was annoying are all the vendors trying to sell you stuff. It gets tiring listening to them, I wish the hotel could limit their activity as this was off putting. Shout out to Rocky once again, such a gentleman. Also, thanks to the staff in the sports bar, your friendly service make for a fun evening. The piano players were fantastic and was very relaxing to sit and listen to. The new buffet area in the main building is nicely laid out.... Much better than the old place. I
