Hotel Family-friendly a Torquay

Location and view are fantastic, facilities are good, there's no denying it's an old hotel and that comes with some quirks and even a few areas that are a bit rough round the edges but it's not advertised as the 5 star hotel it once was. So as a 4 star I'd recommend it to anyone, the staff and cleanliness of room couldn't be faulted!! My only real gripe / area that needs some more immediate attention is please get an EV charger or two!

Un edificio magnifico in un luogo perfetto per noi. Siamo stati in una stanza con una splendida vista sul mare per svegliarsi fino a ogni mattina. La colazione era di alta qualità e ci ha dato un grande inizio al giorno. In generale l'hotel è molto pulito e ogni struttura utilizzata sembra essere mantenuta a buon livello. La nostra camera era molto spaziosa rispetto a molte altre camere d'albergo che ho soggiornato. La camera era certamente più grande della media e comprendeva una doccia di buona dimensione, con molta acqua calda a buona pressione. Anche quando si usavano le altre coperte, la doccia sembrava essere completamente intatta. Un paio di dettagli piccoli che avrebbero migliorato il nostro soggiorno. Un ascensore di lavoro, durante la nostra visita era fuori ordine. Ma questo non ha rovinato il nostro soggiorno. L'altro dettaglio sarebbe un piccolo sedile (o simile) nel bagno. Tutti i membri del personale si sono incontrati in modo amichevole, accurato e utile, e tutti sembravano disposti a garantire che ci fosse il piacere del nostro soggiorno a The Osborne. Abbiamo camminato intorno a alcuni dei terreni che sembravano essere mantenuti, e abbiamo camminato anche fuori dai terreni e attraverso la baia a Meadfoot, un luogo grande per andare a piedi e godere dell'aria fresca del mare. Unfortunately for us , our stay at this hotel was marred badly by the dreadfully dirty room we had ; I am sure it was a health hazard . On arrival, the room we were allocated was very small, but more to the point it was MOULDY - walls, windows etc . :( I went to reception where the lady there was so lovely, she was very apologetic and sympathetic and called the Manager , who was equally as pleasant and helpful and very considerate . She showed us another 2 rooms , one of which seemed light and more airy - we thought . Sadly, upon further inspection, which came to light when I tried to open the windows for some air as it was very hot and stuffy and as I am asthmatic, it would have been good to get some fresh air through - but oh dear, this was not to be .The window frames were thick with black and we could not open any . The bathroom was very , very grubby , the bed frame worn right through, the bedroom chair full of dust and grime - we were not sure if we could see mites on one side of the chair- it was so dirty we would not sit in ti and the whole feel of the room made you feel cringy , like you needed a real good scrub! I could not believe it, it ruined the stay . The shower slip mat was mouldy , the windows rattled every time traffic went by . The pillows were biscuit thin . The bed was the worst I have ever slept in - hard, lumpy, could feel the springs , no mattress topper . :( Goodness, I didn't htink rooms like this existed in this day and age !! Absolute health hazard x 2 !! We had tried twice!! There was so much grime in the bathroom , I cringed having to wash in there. We would never use this hotel again ever, and that is a shame as their facilities are good , evening entertainment good , Bistro gets our vote entirely as all staff in there were lovely and friendly, and the food in there was excellent and very good value for money - I highly recommend ! But when you are staying, your room, to me , forms your home for the week, and ours , despite the hotel's efforts , was dreadful. Such a huge disappointment . I am not a person who would normally have this much to say - but our stay was, as I say , runied , knowing we had to go back to this awful grime ridden room each night . I did not see any point asking again - what would be next ?? So, sorry , Derwent , but keeping just your public area's clean and negelcting rooms to the point we had, we will not return, nor, so our 3 friends who were with us , say neither will they . We even considered going and booking another hotel whilst there but that would have meant, of course, we would have paid double for a stay ? Never seen such dirt . Food in restaurant = mmm , presentation not good, sloppy looking meals , tepid temperatures. Bistro food and service = 10 / 10 - Thank you , Aztec Bistro !
