"We rolled up to the hotel, bags in hand and spirits high. From the outside, it looked like the kind of boutique spot influencers post on Instagram—cute, chic, and full of promise. We strolled in early, met the staff (who were lovely and all business), and casually asked about early check-in.
Much to our surprise—they hit us with an upgrade! Jackpot! We were giddy. Dreams of fluffy robes and a minibar danced in our heads. That is… until we opened the door to our upgraded paradise.
The hallway greeted us with a strong aroma of… chicken noodle soup? Maybe Ramen? Honestly, it was hard to tell. It was like a college dorm met a food court. But once we opened our room door? Oh no. That smell leveled up into full-blown “somebody’s been cooking something weird in here for days”.
Still, it’s an upgrade, right? Maybe the smell was just... vintage?
Then we realized: no air-conditioning. No water. And the bedroom TV? Decorative only.
We called the front desk and were offered a fan—because apparently, the air con wouldn’t be fixed anytime soon. Now, yes, it was winter. But we'd been running around Sydney like caffeinated tourists and were basically sweating out our sightseeing schedule. The fan helped blow the smell around the room, if nothing else.
So, the upgrade? We're still not sure what it was—maybe it was just the scent… of disappointment.
BUT—we were in the heart of Sydney. The location? 10/10. We even had a washer and dryer, which came in handy when our clothes started absorbing that hallway smell. Showering felt a bit like prepping for a Fear Factor challenge, but we made it through.
The beds? Solid. Like, literal rocks. I woke up feeling like I'd lost a fight with a cement truck.
But hey—we survived two nights. We lived. We laughed. We lightly questioned our life choices. And most importantly: you get what you pay for… and sometimes a little more, like the scent of soup that haunts you long after checkout"
