Wonderful staff and service. Nice room and lovely location. Great wine tasting and expert knowledge of wines. Excellent food options. The restaurant has a view of a lake and mountains. It’s just outside Stellenbosch and well served by Ubers.

From the very first minute, entering via the immaculate tree lined driveway, you are aware that you are visiting somewhere very special. Asara is a wonderful experience, made even more wonderful by the staff throughout the estate. As we arrived we were greeted by the 2 amazing attendants (I think one was called James- they were both from Malawi), these 2 guys were fantastic, a real credit to Asara, nothing was too much trouble. The scenery here is out of this World and as you walk across the courtyard you immediately feel yourself relax. This could be Provence in spring, the smell of lavender and herbs just adding to the whole experience. In the afternoon we spent some time around the pool which was lovely, really peaceful, the pool was lovely and cool, very clean, plenty of towels and they had a bar with a barman on call all day, I appreciated this level of service, even with just a handful of people around the pool he was always ready to serve a drink. The room was lovely and spacious, the balcony offered amazing views across the lake to the mountains and offered lots of space and comfortable chairs. The rooms were clean and the bathroom was big and luxurious (shower was huge). This was a room you could relax in, the only downside on our visit was a family close by with 2 kids screaming with the TV full blast. My advice would be keep this wing child free, this place is big enough to do that without ostracising anyone. We visited the restaurant 3 times (Lunch, Dinner and Breakfast), the food was superb and the service was really good. I have to say I was impressed. If I was being really picky I did feel that some of the dishes were a little odd. I had the salmon starter which was served with wasabi puree, pickled cucumber etc. I imagined it to be Japanese flavours/style but it was actually just a large fillet of salmon, cooked slightly under (which i'm fine with by the way, I prefer it this way rather than over cooked and dry) with a wasabi paste that had no flavour, absolutely no bite, very little if any wasabi in it, the cucumber was pickled with vinegar (i'd expected Tsukemono, the sightly sweeter Japanese pickled veg). I had a Honey Pork with no honey, I think the honey may have been on the pork before it was cooked but the sweetness had gone, surrounded by pears and bean paste and a shallot, it was just a strange taste combo, personally it didn't work for me but I appreciated the ambition. We did the wine tasting with Kalvin, that was great and well worth doing, would highly recommend. Overall we had a great visit and would definitely come here again (in fact we are already planning our next trip). I was concerned about a few negative reviews but I have no idea what they were going on about. I am lucky enough to have visited well over 300 luxury resorts around the World and this place is easily in my top 10%. Asara is a relaxing, beautiful resort with amazing staff and just 5 mins from Stellenbosch.

We booked the restaurant for dinner and it was a wonderful experience. The view is stunning. The staff are incredibly warm and welcoming and the food was amazing. Thank You Clifton for our initial introduction and to Leslie for being the best, most attentive waiter.

This place is just magical. The views, the estate, the sprawling architecture of the property - just loved it. I'd go back in a heartbeat. It's so gorgeous that I'd overlook several flaws. The A/C in one of our rooms was hit and miss. Bits of the hotel need a refurb. The food is so-so (we stayed for 5 nights with family and friends, and literally nobody raved about anything they ate. Not bad, just unremarkable). I forgave it all of these things because it's just so gorgeous! And a great location - you're immersed in natural beauty, but just a 5-minute drive from Stellenbosch, and a 40-minute drive from Cape Town. (I hear the wine's good too, but I don't drink, so can't comment). Recommended.

It was such a nice evening meal on the outside terrace with a view over a lovely lake and vineyards. Service, food, and wine were all excellent — frankly, I'm surprised that this venue is not rated more highly as it was one of our highlights of a decadent week of high-quality meals and venues

This hotel has a stunning setting with views of the vineyards and the mountains. There is a pool and beautiful gardens with many birds. The room block could use a makeover - there are water leaks along walkways and the door to our room was warped and peeling paint and could not be dead bolted. Shower drain didn’t work and flooded the bathroom. The buildings all have anticoagulant rat poison boxes installed at ground level; they say they collect the rat carcasses immediately but the grounds are large and the poisoned rats pose a serious environmental problem for the predator birds that are in the area. Wine tastings are available. Breakfasts are good.

When I have visited Asara last time 2years ago I wrote in my diary: Beautiful estate, great food. This time we were somehow disappointed: The prises have gone through the roof for a mediocre lunch. The waiter (as well as I) forgot to remind me of my cap, which was not found when I called later.

Leaving the hustle and bustle of Camps Bay behind, we were instantly soothed by the scenic drive up to Asara. The estate's beautiful gardens and buildings are perfectly situated between the vineyards and the lake, offering breathtaking mountain views. Our spacious, newly renovated room was conveniently located near the clean pool and the excellent restaurant. We enjoyed delicious food and, of course, exquisite wine. This is true luxury – a place to exhale.

My husband and I recently enjoyed an idyllic two-night stay at this exquisite 5-star Wine Estate. Our comfortable room boasted a lovely balcony, perfect for savoring the estate's tranquility. The breakfast was a highlight, which we enjoyed with their exceptional bubbly. The Raphael staff's thoughtful food pairing enhanced all of our dining experiences. We thoroughly relished our time here, soaking in the breathtaking views and appreciating the friendly, attentive service.

Unfortunately I cannot say that this hotel is of a 5 star standard and definitely lacks the amenities and facilities to be considered as such. The rooms are very dated and basic and the housekeeping staff did a very minimal job; daily turn down was never complete before 3pm and included little more than tidying towels or providing a cookie by our bed; we had to ask twice for turn down to be complete and I noticed that toiletries were not replenished and basic supplies such as refrigerated water and tidying up glasses was not complete. Whilst the hotel restaurant had a beautiful view, the menu is very minimal and service is quite slow. The swimming pool itself is a decent size but is at the bottom of a steep grassy hill which is not fully paved. The rooms were also at least a 7 minute walk away from the reception area, up a hill and lots of stairs. On arrival to this hotel, we were not given a tour or any information about the facilities eg breakfast we had booked, nor offered a welcome drink or water. There was no ‘guest relations’ facility and no one could recommend any local attractions or restaurants; when we asked for recommendations of local wine tours we were given inaccurate information and had a wasted trip to a local vineyard that did not offer the type of tour that we had asked to be booked onto. Likewise, we were not warned that Ubers were difficult to come by in the area (we learned this the hard way when we nearly missed our dinner reservation) and the reception desk said they did not know of any local taxi companies to book for us. Unfortunately the worst part of our trip was that our shower door was broken and drain was blocked, meaning that when we showered the bathroom flooded and surrounding bedroom carpet got wet, leading to a wet and unpleasant floor throughout the room and significant smell of damp (which a few days later having travelled back to England we are still smelling on all of our clothes and belongings). Whilst the manager and staff were very apologetic about this and we understood that no rooms were spare to move us into, they lacked urgency or a proper response; we were first moved to an apartment on the site which was frankly disgusting and not comparable to the booking we had made, with no outside space or working aircon. The manager assured us he would fix the shower and inform us in 5 minutes of our re-entry to the room. Upon returning from dinner at 11pm at night, no attempt had been made to settle us back into our room with the luggage that had been previously moved into the apartment, and we hadn’t had an update from the manager or reception staff. A temporary fix was made to the shower, which subsequently flooded again the next day and non of the reception staff nor housekeeping asked if the situation had been resolved, did anything to rectify the damp smell or offered any form of compensation to us (apart from bringing us a snack as we got into our uber for dinner which whilst thoughtful did not impact or

Over the years, we have visited Asara multiple times. The view is wonderful and we always did a family getogether at what is now called "The cigar lounge". Over the last 2 years our visits have been less as children is not allowed at the Cigar lounge. Fair enough, but it was a great place for lounging with the children nd have glass of wine while the children wants some snacks... No such option anymore. Were were told prev that a pizza oven would be moved to accomodate this but it has not been done. Today, we visited Asara again and got a table in the cigar lounge. Impossible to have a good conversation, guests at the next table was way to loud. Not Asara's problem i can imagine, so we asked for a table at the restaurant. We ordered some drinks and a couple of starters. My partner received her drink first after quite a while and i was informed the ingredients for my drink is not available so i had to order something else. I then ordered a caiprinha which only came 30min later, my partner already finished her drink by then. My drink was terrible....i am not sure whether they used the wrong ingredients or cheap liquor but it was undrinkable.... Our starters have not arrived at this time yet, so we cancelled everything, paid for the one drink and walked out. Asara will probably not see us again. Over the years it was a great gathering place for the family but this came to an end today.

In my time here, I was helped by the most welcoming and excellent wine sommelier. His passion was evident in the way he spoke and I can say for certain that his service was impeccable. His name is Azaxole and he was amazing! The view was amazing and the tasting was perfect.
