As it turns out, we didn’t get to stay at this hotel. Although we booked with weeks in advance, the hotel double booked our room and didn’t give us the curtesy of letting us know. We found out when I called to ask for separate beds the same day we were arriving. The hotel’s solution was to send us to a different property, they gave us two options and the one that seemed the best was Central Blanche Residence. It wasn’t. When we got there the hotel looked like it hadn’t been open in months. There were parts that were literally falling apart. There were tiles missing in the pool, the lights inside the pool were dangling, exposing electrical cords, there was no food service available when in their page it said it would. After the first night we went to see the manager of la Residence Blanq to see if we could be moved to a different hotel but naturally, because it was the time of the water festival, everything was booked. We had originally booked a room with a balcony and a tub and we got a crusty double room with a tiny balcony that didn’t even have a breakfast table, let alone a tub. After a lot of back and forth we managed to get a $10 per day refund but we had no other option than to stay put.
Commercially, I understand how things work, they got a bigger booking and it made more sense to give away our room but the least they could’ve done was first, let us know and second, move us to an equivalent or better hotel since it’s them who needed the room we had booked in advance. Hopefully it doesn’t happen to many other people in the future.
