Moxy NYC Downtown

We chose the hotel for its fantastic location and the fact Moxy hotels are fairly hip, cool and modern. Location was absolutely amazing and there is so much in the vicinity to do or eat/drink etc we really loved it. The small, narrow reception was adequate enough - we were checked in by a lady who said we were 20 mins early, so the room she could give us was a twinned room available immediately. I jokingly said if it was an upgrade we’d take it! That didn’t go down well for some reason and then all of a sudden our original room was ready. Weird. The room was very bijou, and the do clever things like store the ironing board under your bed (it just requires someone to tell you that rather than going on a hunt for it). The room was super cool and did not disappoint in that way, the view was ok but we were not on a high floor. Heavenly soft bed, fantastic bathroom and shower and we loved the shower gel/shampoo fragrance they use. The main bar area by morning is all very serious, with lots of serious people with Apple laptops and iced lattes but by night it is a very lively place indeed with a fun vibe which we liked. Upon check out, we found out we were supposed to use tokens given to us on check in……great….so we scurried upstairs to try and use them on the restricted items specified. Check out was marred by the issues which should not have occurred upon check in but all in all it is a nice hotel to stay in.

Holiday Inn Wall Street, an IHG Hotel

Wall Street - Financial District New York|0.42km dal Pace University
Before arriving, I called the IHG group asking if the hotel has storage space for our luggage as we will be arriving 6am and check in is only at 3pm. The person on the other end of the phone called confirmed that the hotel had storage place. We landed at Newark and took an uber to our hotel, upon arrival we entered a sickened hot and stuffy lobby (Aircon blasting hot air). The receptionist had seem to be sleeping in the back room. He was unable to communicate properly and very rudely said there was NO SPACE to store the luggage. He was of no help at all when requested other options. We went back outside to get some fresher air as it was the middle of summer. Googled storage options and had to walk 6 blocks with our luggage and dropped it at the storage location and went about our day. At 5pm we decided to check in and get changed for the evening events. This time it was a different receptionist and he was somewhat better than the previous one. (We were greeted by 4 different receptionist during our 3 night stay and none of them knew what hospitality meant as they were not friendly or somewhat helpful at all!!!) He informed us that they no longer do breakfast as the restaurant has closed 3 weeks prior to our check in date. No breakfast voucher or other arrangements were made. We just had to made do. Even though 'bed and breakfast' was paid! The hallways were so dirty and carpets smelled awful. Only one of the two elevators worked. One evening we came across the person removing garbage using the elevator and made us wait for the other one which did not work. Only once he was done could we use the elevator and it was dirty (no surprise). THE ROOM - it was so small, we had to climb over our luggage to move around. The aircon made a very loud noise so we weren't able to use it during the night, again in the middle of summer. The duvet did not have a proper duvet cover it was wrapped in sheets and the duvet itself was disgusting and had so many holes in it. The towels were not sufficient enough even though requesting more. The faucets all leaked even the toilet and the shower did not work properly and don't even get me started on the drainage of the bathroom entirely. The curtain in the bedroom was also broken and had to be rolled up by hand and squeezed in between the railing and window just to stay open for some light as the room lights were also not working. This was the most disappointing stay our entire vacation. We will not be making use of any of the IHG group hotels if this is how business is done. Utterly disgusted and disappointed.

The Beekman, a Thompson Hotel

I've always been intrigued by The Beekman but never had the opportunity to stay there until now. I ended up making two reservations (one night through the Amex Fine Hotels program and two nights using Hyatt points) and Chris at the Front Desk worked to combine them into one stay so I wouldn't need to check out and check back in or change rooms. In addition to Chris, all of the employees I met were wonderful. The doormen were always on the ball and friendly, the Temple Court servers and bartenders were excellent, and I was thoroughly impressed with Elaine, the housekeeper who took the time to write me a thank you note for leaving her a tip; in all my nights in a hotel, that has never happened! I'm a big proponent of the handwritten thank you note (which is a rapidly dying habit these days) so this little act was extremely special to me. I ate at Temple Court three times and each time was fantastic - a phenomenal burger for dinner, the AMAZING onion dip late one night after a concert, and excellent avocado toast for breakfast. I was on the fifth floor and didn't hear any noise from the bar/atrium, even on busy weekend nights; as others have said, it can get noisy so ask for a higher floor to try and avoid it. I can't wait to visit again!

This hotel was fantastic! I always get sticker shock when I see prices on hotels in NYC. This was such a great deal compared to anywhere else we have stayed. Conveniently located, quiet, incredibly spacious by NY standards and very thoughtful in small touches such as a handwritten note to welcome us, an iron that didn’t ruin our clothes when we used it, a shower door that didn’t leak. They truly thought of everything in my opinion. Small kitchen area with large mini fridge, microwave and dishwasher were great. So nice that they had a laundry room available to us. Would absolutely not hesitate to stay here again.

My favorite boutique hotel when visiting my kids in NYC. Great intimate atmosphere. So convenient to the subway and path to Newark. There is not much of a lobby and no restaurant but there are dozens of restaurants within blocks.
