Perfect location. Very nice and clean rooms. Kind staff. We loved this hotel.
Non il miglior hotel a 5 stelle, probabilmente neanche nella media, ottimo per viaggi di lavoro e meeting, con la famiglia non ci andrei. Stanze grandi, doccia spaziosa, pulizia impeccabile. Generalmente mi porto il mio coprimaterasso per proteggere me dai materassi degli hotel, che a volte sono sporchi anche nei migliori hotel, ma qui l'igiene è impeccabile. Ristorante interno di buona qualità, bar aperto fino alle 12.30 pm. Per gli amanti del jogging, la posizione di fronte a central park da non sottovalutare.

Of course, there is the view. Of course, the big apple has lost it all regarding affordable rates when it comes to be anywhere near Central Park or having even the slightest view on it. From this point, Essex house remains a must : full frontal view, unobstructed, first row on CP and located on one of if not the best corners of NY. But does this extraordinary location, associated to relatively low prices compared to concurrents (eg Mandarin Oriental) authorize to cut on things like cleanliness, service and breakfast to the point that guests can feel like in an empty shell that once was, regarding it's architecture, the volumes, the decoration and the location, a true luxury hotel, but which reflects more a 4 star mid range place right now. I do not think so. Of course each and every hotel in New York has to struggle to exist but being part of an international brand, we found that the state in which we found our room was a disgrace for what should reflect what the brand make's best. Every hotel can fade a little bit with age mainly those having to face rapid guests turnover in big cities but for God's sake, maintenance must be kept as good as it can : dusty surfaces and carpet or furniture stains are not a point we should even be discussing of in this category of hotels. Come on Marriott, you can do better !

Worst experience I’ve had a Marriott hotel, never mind a Jw. Would prefer to stay at a spring hill suites as opposed to this property. Security just about broke down our door at 3 am for a leak in the hotel. Never apologized. Confronted the manager about this at check out told em he would be in contact and he would add 40,000 points to my Bonvoy account neither of which ever happened. Room had a broken light fixture and a carpet that coming up on the way to the bathroom. Horrible experience a once great hotel now in decay with poor management.

Paid for two parkview rooms. See pictures below. Front desk insisted that both rooms were the same with similar views. See for yourself. Clearly not true. It is not right to charge a premium rate for the wrong room. Front desk were also difficult at times. Restaurant was very good.

Stay was spoiled by surprise charge to credit card after check out. Extremely difficult to find email address for hotel to get an explanation. Eventually found an email address. Was informed it was $60 for minibar. Had never even tried to find minibar and certainly did not take a $60 bottle. Colleague staying at same time had $150 taken- so I was lucky. Had to go to card company to get refund. Stayed in Essex house 5 times- this was my last time.

Great location and historic art deco building. Concierge lounge was excellent although alcohol was not free. Breakfast in the lounge was a full buffet with a nice range of selections. The dinner appetizers were robust as well. Was upgraded to a mini suite. Could almost see Central Park from the room by careening at the windows. Room was tastefully decorated but could have used a little more imagination. Very disappointed in the opaque destination fee. Couldn’t find anything about it on the website and I wasn’t informed of what it covered at check in. Found out that I missed out on a food and beverage credit. They could have done a better job of informing guests what it covers. Or better yet, just do away with it. Guess we’ll have to wait for truth in pricing laws to take effect before that happens.
