I had a wonderful 8-day visit to Merida thanks in large part to my decision to stay at Hotel La Piazzetta. I had a spotlessly clean and very quiet garden room--with an extremely comfortable bed, soft sheets, and blackout curtains, I slept better than I have in ages. The upstairs garden, ground floor patio, and breakfast/bar/lobby area were serene spots to read, relax, and simply decompress after a full day of activity. What makes this hotel especially special are the owners, Leo and Maria, and staff, who were all consistently kind, friendly, helpful, and patient with my poor Spanish skills. Leo is the consummate host--gracious and welcoming, offering personalized recommendations for enjoying the city and remembering exactly how his guests like their morning coffee. As they say, the devil is in the details! Highly recommended!

Great small hotel, well located within the Centro area, and within easy walking distance of bars and restaurants around the main square. My wife and I stayed in one of the garden rooms at the rear of the hotel, shrouded amongst cooling vegetation. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the shower and AC worked well. The lobby is cool and breezy and opens onto a small square where we saw several local activities (dancing, card fair etc) take place during our 3 day stay. We had no issues parking our hire car in the spaces bordering this square, and everything felt extremely safe and secure (as did the whole of Merida). Breakfast consisted of a continental style bread/cake, fresh juice, and delicious coffee each day which was all we needed to set ourselves up for the day, without spoiling our appetites for all the delicious food to be had in the city! What made our stay especially enjoyable was the (originally French) owner who is fluent in several languages including English. We found him engaging and friendly, extremely helpful, and he could not have done more to help us by recommending cultural events, bars/restaurants (we particularly enjoyed Bird), and even planning a Cenote trip. All the other staff were equally friendly during our stay - speaking a little Spanish helps. If you are looking for a comfortable, friendly, centrally-located hotel in Merida with handy parking and excellent service you will find it all here. Highly recommended!

I cannot put into words the amount of gratitude I have for Leo and Maria at Hotel la Piazetta. I traveled to Mexico with my 17 year old daughter and we felt 100% secure and so well cared for. Our room was spotless, comfortable and extremely spacious with beautiful decor and cozy beds. The property is warm and cozy with plants and two great cats. Lots of room to rest and relax with a view of the lively park right outside. Every morning we were welcomed with coffee and fresh juices as well as pan de muerto. It made us feel like a part of the family to know that each night they made sure we were safe and in the hotel. The personalized attention was incredible! I have traveled to Europe, the Caribbean and Central America as well as around the US and I’ve never been treated so kindly! Our trip was magical- Merida is a MUST DO! I cannot wait to return next year with my best friend for her 50th birthday! Thank you so much Leo and Maria as well as the sweet staff and little Emiliano!

Rundown facility. Long walk to central area. Small rooms and tiny bathrooms. Hodgepodge of shabby furniture. Weak air conditioning. There are so many good hotel choices in Merida run by local people that are as inexpensive as the Piazzetta and are much nicer and closer to the center of the city. The Piazzetta may look close to the center but be aware that in very hot humid weather an extra 5 long blocks is significant. As I am writing this I am double booked in 2 hotels in Merida. I walked out of the Piazzetta after they refused to even give me any credit for my pre-paid second night after I spent my first night in a run-down room with a dying air conditioning unit with a bearing squeeling in its compressor (they told me no other rooms were available when the squeeling started in the middle of the night). I am new to Merida but I am learning that there are many great hotel options here. The Piazzetta is a poor choice. In fact I have stayed in more than 2 dozen hotels in various parts of Mexico (1/2 dozen on the Yucatan peninsula) and I have never experienced the kind of treatment I received at the Piazzetta nor stayed in a hotel as shabby as the Piazzetta. The Piazzetta does a good job on the "soft" tasks of hand holding and introducing you to a foreign city and removing the language obstacle. They don't do so well on the "hard" side of things. The physical condition of their hotel is terrible. The flooring material in the room I had seemed strangely out of place and randomly chosen. The paint on the door to my room looked like it was about 10 layers thick and no preparation was done before painting as the paint underneath appeared to be flaking off. Merida is a beautiful city with many excellent hotels run by local people. The Piazzetta is not one of them.
