Hotel Goldried

I booked the 90sq meter apartment for my family of 4. The photo they have of this apartment online shows wood floors and a sectional couch with 2 stories. I really wanted the large couch for my family to sit together for family time. The apartment we were given had old tile floors and a 2 seater couch with 2 ikea chairs. This made it hard to sit together as a family. I asked to see a room with a larger couch and then let me, but it was worse. It had the larger couch but the overall room was much smaller and still had tile floors. We opted to keep the room we were given. The bedrooms did have wood floors. The tile was badly stained and very cold. The kitchen was new and had most of what we needed but no toaster. They provided dish tabs and a dish towel but no soap for the sink to hand wash pots so we had to go buy some. We booked a stay including breakfast which at the time of booking was about €500 more than a stay without breakfast. The first day of breakfast we were very disappointed. The scrambled eggs were just wet, runny, and creamy. Looked like cottage cheese curds. Was not cooked. Unedible. The boiled eggs were boiled maybe 2 minutes with a totally runny yolk. Maybe some like that but thats not edible for us. Most other items at breakfast were of low quality. Only 2 small types of pastries. Some yogurt and canned fruit, lunch meat and cheese and a waffle maker which was the best thing they had going. We asked to please opt out of the remaining breakfast and they would only refund €7 per day per person but we paid €18. So be it. I would rather cook myself than be subjected to that breakfast. I usually LOVE European hotel breakfast and we stay at alot of places but this one was just disappointing and not worth looking forward to. They should refund the entire amount I paid. The hotel was practically empty when we were there which was sort of nice because the pool was empty and we had it to ourselves but on the downside the main al la carte restaurant wasnt open and if you wanted to eat that you had to sit in the breakfast room where they offer the half board buffet. We got pizza to go and that was disappointing too. The flavor wasnt great and the pizzas didnt look like the photos they have online. The room was large so that was nice. Having laundry was a bonus and the drying cupboard. I was very disappointed that apartment guests dont have access to the sauna area without spending another €15 per person per day. I was told thats because we have our own sauna in our room. This is NOT the same. The sauna in the room is very small and can only hold 4 people if we all sit up. No lying down. Even if I go inside the sauna alone the bench is too narrow to comfortably lay down and at the main saunas you can cool iff in the outdoor pool right away which isnt an option in my room. Very very very outdated room. The bed was literally broken. Boiler inside the bath!! No elevator to our room floor. Generally, all hotel facilities felt old / unattended. There is indeed a great view but that's it basically. Would definitely recommend to STAY AWAY!

The views from this hotel are spectacular. Just up the hill from the local village. The lift up to the hotel is different as a funicular lift. The staff on reception were really lovely and helpful. We had a large room with separate bedroom, perfect if you are self catering. It also had a sauna and heating cupboard for anyone skiing. The food was of a good quality. There was a lovely indoor and outdoor swimming pool. One really good thing was that my husband left his silver chain in the bedroom when we left the hotel to go home. As we were on a coach I could not do much about it. Two days later I emailed the hotel and explained we thought the chain had fallen behind the cabinet. An hour later I got an email back with photo to say it had been found. They even sent the chain back by post. Excellent service.

We had a great stay here. We stayed in one of the apartments which had been newly renovated. I noticed some older reviews mention that the apartments were outdated but that seems to not be the case any longer. Our apartment was updated, clean, quiet, comfortable and the bathroom and kitchen looked brand new. There is no AC but it doesn't need it, the windows all open, it cools off nicely at night even if it's hot during the day. We ate at the restaurant for dinner two nights, they also have pizza and other options you can have in your room. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. The only thing I want to mention so that people are prepared, is that the apartments are separate from the main lodge and there is an uphill walk to get to the restaurant, reception, pool, spa, etc. There is also no elevator in the apartment building and a lot of stairs to haul luggage and yourself up and down. If you have mobility issues, then the main lodge is probably where you should elect to stay instead.

It is always great to come back to Goldried, this time though there was a disturbance - the spa was filled with unattended children and rude young teenagers at all times. Their screaming and splashing water totally spoilt the calm moment you expect in a spa. You have to be 17 to enter bur nobody seemed to bother. A tip if you are skiing is to get a lock for your skis - one morning one of our pairs was gone and then returned in the evening again. Probably accidentelly ”borrowed” but very annoying for us. Apart from this I can only recomend Goldried and hope that next time the spa is a spa again.

Very comfortable hotel with amazing view over Matrei. The hotel gets extra points for funicular (did not expect that!), yummy breakfasts, the pools and location. We stayed in an apartment and it was perfect for three of us. The hotel seems to have a lot to offer families with young children.
