Have waited a long time to experience Sunday lunch at the Peacock as it has not been an offering for a number of years. 3 course lunch with a varied choice of options including vegan and gluten free. All the starters were accompanied with home made sour dough bread and home made butter. My chicken liver parfait was very tasty and light in texture with brioche bread. Roast beef (lovely and pink for me) with Yorkshire pudding and roasted veggies were all excellent and a good portion size. The desert selections were sumptuous with the chocolate rum and raisin outstanding in presentation and flavours. The service given by the staff was attentive and very efficient. The wait has been worth it and look forward to future visits especially in the summer with a beautiful outside area for outside dining and drinks

What a lovely meal! I've always avoided fine dining thinking I wouldn't like the food or it would be too expensive and this was the complete opposite. Lovely food, staff were so welcoming. Joel and Valentine took great care of us and provided great recommendations on wine and food. Beautifully decorated and a great place to go for a special occasion.

Two couples stayed for two nights. We understand this was the first stays under new ownership - after our booking was cancelled due to building works unfinished. Our rebooking not dealt with very well but hey ho no probs. Dinner on both nights was quite exceptional - especially the desserts - quite exquisite.Pity about breakfast where the fresh fruit was just apples, pineapple and tinned oranges - no berries and no attempt to make it look attractive. Equally our friends has omelettes that we’re just on a white plate - not even a sprig of parsley. Not good enough. Our “superior twin room” was not superior - with a tiny en-suite bathroom with a dangerously hot towel rail.

We had a longstanding reservation for supper for 12 which the hotel honoured despite being formally closed for refurbishment. Since the hotel had just been taken over by Enjoymore and a new menu was promised, we were a bit apprehensive that the special ambience would have changed. We need not have worried! The welcome was as warm as ever, the new decor entirely appropriate, the staff unchanged, the service unobtrusive and attentive, and the food presented magnificently. The new menu offers plenty of choice, and I think everyone present would say when the starters arrived they exceeded expectations in presentation and complexity and variety of flavours. This is a place to come to if you want to savour each mouthful, so portions are modest but entirely adequate. Anyway the bread is irresistable if you need filling up , and if you don't! Just when you think it couldn't get any better the desserts arrived with stunning presentation.Excellent finale! The complexity of the dishes is such that the 3 course dinner is more like a 5 course gastronomic tasting menu, so bear that in mind when comparing prices. We had a wonderful evening.

We stayed in the caravan park behind the pub/ restaurant but had our evening meal and drinks in the comfort of the lounge area. Very friendly welcome and meal was excellent and my steak done perfectly. We will definitely revisit in the summer months.

We spent four nights here on a recent holiday, using it as a base for exploring this part of Derbyshire. It was a good choice, but very expensive - our room, which was quite ordinary, cost £295 per night for the first two nights and £360 per night for the Friday and Saturday nights. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant on our first and last evenings and the food and service were excellent. The total cost of our four-night stay with two dinners was well over £1700, making it easily the most expensive (but not the best) of the five hotels we used on this trip.

5 of us ate here for my husbands big birthday. Food and service were both great, the lady who greeted us (think she was French) was very good; efficient and friendly. We all had the set menu with coffee (v expensive as others have said) some of the portions were a decent size, others a little small. One of the party was doing veganuary and he found something he enjoyed. A minor disappointment was that although a couple of the staff wished my husband a happy birthday, that was the end of it. A complimentary drink or dessert would have been welcomed, as is normal at establishments like this, especially as the bill was almost £500.

We enjoyed a private dining evening in December and have absolutely nothing to complain about. The service was attentive and professional - the food was to an exceptionally high standard and we applaud the creativity. Congratulations to a great team.

Poor Christmas Eve lunch. Both of us had turkey for mains. Unfortunately the meal barely resembled a Christmas turkey lunch meal at all. The turkey was cut from a roll, without sprouts, or mash, or parsnips , carrots or even a Yorkshire pud. The waiter tried to pacify our complaint by explaining that the sprouts had been mashed in with the stuffing ! Only a single sprout leaf was evident at the side of the plate. The gravy was served in a thimble size jug that was half full. The serving waitress disappeared to try and find some sprouts ! All to no avail though as the returning waiter explained the meals were all made up in advance, so nothing could be changed. We decided to leave the mains and pay for the starters and drinks which still amounted to £ 105 ! What a complete rip off for a meal that bore little resemblance to a Christmas turkey meal that we have ever experienced. Valentine the French head waitress was particularly annoying in her OTT defence of the establishment and blind defiance that there was anything wrong with the meal. We have supported the Peacock at Rowsley for years and spent thousands of pounds in the process. Never again though, we will definitely not be returning again in the future.
