Pousada de Lisboa - Small Luxury Hotels of the World

If location is a priority in your hotel selection, then the Pousada Lisboa is the right choice. It is in a prime spot and easy to find when walking back from your outings. It is within walking distance to many attractions and restaurants and adjacent to one of the most iconic areas in all of Lisbon. The included breakfast is very good and offers a buffet as well as a small menu of options. The staff was mostly helpful and friendly, but there were a couple of female staffers at the front desk who were less than pleasant. Fabio and Daniella were extremely helpful during our stay and took the time to assist us fully and were extremely kind. Those were the only notable positives during our stay. The superior room was very clean, but disappointing. There is no counter space in the bathroom, only a ledge in which to place your toiletries and hope they don’t fall off. The only outlet found in the bathroom is for “shavers only”, so not sure where a hair dryer or other hair appliance would be plugged in. The bed mattress was so firm and uncomfortable that I didn’t sleep well during our entire stay. On one of the days, we returned to the room at 5:00pm after having been out all day walking the beautiful city. We were hot and tired and wanted to take a quick rest before dinner only to find the room had not been cleaned yet. We went down to the bar to wait while someone cleaned the room—not ideal. Upon returning, the room was clean, but the housekeeper had left a bottle of one of the cleaning products on the sofa (it was removed during the turndown service). On one occasion, we were sitting in our room and heard a key in the door and in walk two housekeepers—no knock, just entered without warning. It was odd that they were surprised we were in OUR room as they stood in the doorway for several seconds as I explained with hand gestures that they should always knock first. They apologized and left. I’m not even sure why they were entering the room since it had already been cleaned. Thank goodness we were dressed! If visiting Lisbon again, we would select another hotel. The Pousada Lisboa is not bad at all and is well suited for most travelers, but is just not what I thought it would be.

I booked this hotel as it had a decent corporate rate, plus I have stayed at other InterContinental hotels in the past and have been impressed. interContinental Doha as a great example, so I had high expectations. The hotel is in a decent area with connections to various parts of the city. The room wasn't very large, but was decent and the bed was comfortable. It didn't have any kind of wow factor though, it was fine but not exceptional. I guess where my expectation fell through the worst was with breakfast. Simply wasn't very good, and was exactly the same every day. I often judge hotels by their food, and breakfast buffet quality. Essentially from my opinion, nothing was homemade. Croissants were the type they thaw and bake. Quality 5 star hotels will have their own pastry chefs to make these from scratch. The egg options also were awful. No omelette options, just fried eggs in buffet container or scrambled. The fried eggs were like rubber, not even fried it seemed almost steamed. And scrambled were runny with strange taste so didn't eat them. The ”rosti” potatoes were essentially round hashbrowns that would have been frozen and reheated for the buffet. Quality again would be actual handmade rosti. To me food quality is important, and was very much looking forward to the breakfasts here as was InterContinental after all, but was Very disappointed. The breakfast staff were professional and nice, but again food quality really needs to be improved significantly for a supposed 5 star hotel. I did enjoy my dinner at their Akla restaurant. Tasty and nicely plated food. Lastly the porters never acknowledge you at the entrance when you come or go. Vast difference in feeling of 5 star hotels when they always acknowledge and appreciate you and your business with the hotel, they need to improve there as well.

Very good hotel, everything was kept very clean and the facilities were great. The room was a good size, the bed and pillows were comfortable. An added bonus was the historical bits and pieces all around the hotel. Under the glass floor of the lounge room there were old structures that pre-date the new grid layout of the buildings. The hotel is in also a great location, within walking distance of lots of the sights and transport options if going further afield. There are hundreds of restaurants, bars and cafes nearby. However, with the location comes at a slight cost, we are the boring go to bed early, get up early types and the streets nearby stay bustling and vibrant until late in the evening. This includes buskers of varying quality! The windows, shutters and heavy curtains do a pretty good job of keeping most of the noise out, but if you are a light sleeper (and in bed by 23:00) you might want to take some earplugs. When we were there there were also roadworks that seemed to start at about 07:00, but hopefully this will be sorted soon. It did mean the street was closed to traffic though which was nice. If you have the included breakfast you make your selections the day before and pick the time you want it, I think they would be pretty relaxed about the time, but they say they try to be within 15 mins of what you ask for. You get a croissant, some bread, a muffin and a selection of cereals. You also select other bits from a list; yoghurt, mixed fruits, fruit juices, hot drinks, a cold meat selection, a cheese selection, scrambled eggs and bacon. You can have as many or as few of these as you like. You can pay extra for other kinds of egg (boiled, fried). When we asked reception what time it ran from and until, we were told we could go as early as 03:00 if we wanted and just to let them know (we didn't take them up on this!). Every member of the team was incredibly helpful and friendly, always willing to go out of their way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

An honest and straight up review by a solo traveller having stayed here for six days. If it’s good I’ll say so, if it’s bad I’ll say so. The room I had was small but it was clean except for the net curtains, they needed a wash. Everything said about the lift in previous reviews is true, it fits one person at a time, it is slow and it stops very briefly sometimes. A very small bathroom with a toilet that is impossible to sit straight on. That said the room was very clean and well kept. Double bed was comfortable and the room was cleaned every day. If you’re travelling to take photos and have camera batteries, battery packs. iPhone, iPad etc then there is only one socket in the room so buy an extension plug that includes USB points before you go then you won’t have any problems. The shower is small and a bit of squeeze for the Dad Bod but water runs nice and hot with good water pressure. Shower gel dispenser in shower and over wash basin. TV had Portuguese speaking channels only. The air con I never quite worked out how to turn the temperature down to make it colder and turn the air flow up. It consumes electricity but other than that I couldn’t really see the point of it as it didn’t really cool the room that much. I didn’t take the breakfast option and from what I saw neither did the majority of the guests. There is a cafe next door which opens at 7am and has numerous breakfast options from fresh fruit to cooked breakfasts at a good price. There is a patisserie in the next street called Pau de Canela offering great coffee and pastries for a few euros. Quality and staff at the patisserie are top notch. From previous reviews of the hotel I confess I was worried but pleasantly surprised it was much better than I expected in terms of the standard of room. It is very noisy of a nighttime due to its location and I mean very noisy. You are going to need ear plugs for a decent nights sleep if you are a light sleeper. Hotel staff sadly is bit off a minus mark. Friendly enough but apart from one member of staff I’m convinced the rest are not native to Lisbon. Several times I asked about tram and bus stops as there was a huge amount of roadworks in Lisbon when i was there which has knocked out part of the tram and bus routes due to closed roads and diversions. Apart from telling me where the metro was (you could see this from the street outside) they were no help at all regards bus and trams to a specific location. At least twice I was told they didn’t know. I found that a disappointment to be honest. I later found out the diversions and road closures plan to be around for time due to flooding issues over the winter and the improvements they are now trying to make. It’s a lot like British roadworks lots of cones and chaos and no one actually working on the job at hand. So back to the hotel, would I stay here again? yes without a doubt, but I would make sure I packed ear plugs and I wouldn’t bother asking the staff anything as I got the feeling I was alw

Appartamenti centrali, puliti e molto belli. Bagni spaziosi e puliti.

Nuovissimo hotel a 50 metri da Praca do Comercio. Staff preparato e cordiale, colazione ottima. Camere spaziose, nuove, pulite e molto comode.

Camera pulita e silenziosa, letto molto comodo.

Tutto bellissimo e fantastico, consiglio!!!
