Thiwson Beach Resort

According to Google the Thiwson Beach Resort is a 4 star resort, by definition this means it needs to offer a deluxe guest experience with a wide range of facilities, superior design qualities and excellent service. Based on this definition I felt it fell short of the mark and is a 3 star hotel at best, having said that, I absolutely loved it hence the high rating. At the time of writing #kohyaoyai only has a handful of resorts and guesthouses to choose from, i researched them carefully, my essentials being air conditioning & swimming pool in the mid range price bracket, my wish list being a characterful locally owned property on a beach. With the @thiwsonbeach I struck gold. This unpolished gem offered everything on my wish list plus more. Owned by a local family, three generations of whom regularly join the guests for dinner in the open air restaurant which serves very tasty reasonable priced Thai food and great chicken nuggets to the delight of my toddler (albeit they were out of fries for the duration of our stay!). Beside this are the beachfront huts are in prime position with their own outdoor jacuzzi, it’s no wonder they book up so far in advance. There are facilities on site to hire scooters or book tours to explore the island and two lovely pool areas. I was initially disappointed with the hilltop location of our own bungalow which are actually across the road from the others, but the quiet semi private pool area in front of our large veranda anf the sunrise view through the frangipani trees buckled my reservations. Our family suite was made up of 2 interconnecting rooms, including an extra bed charge charge & 3% credit card levy cost us €150 per night. The resort isn’t perfect, there are holes in the concrete (my little girl took a nasty fall in one) & bugs in the rooms (to the delight of my 9 year old boy), there is no room service and while there is sand the sea is separated from the resort with a concrete flood barrier & is extremely tidal so not ideal for swimming but for me character trumps perfection every time so I would return again in a heartbeat💖

The outdoor bathtub was a delightful surprise, allowing me to soak in tranquility while enjoying the fresh sea breeze. Service (★★★★★): The staff at Santhiya are exceptional in every way. Their genuine warmth and commitment to guest satisfaction were evident throughout my stay. From arranging transportation to accommodating special requests, they went above and beyond to ensure a memorable experience. Dining (★★★★★): The resort's dining options were a gastronomic delight. The Chantara Restaurant, in particular, served exquisite Thai and international cuisine. Every meal was a culinary journey, and the open-air setting overlooking the Andaman Sea added to the dining experience. The breakfast buffet was a highlight, offering a wide selection of delicious dishes. Amenities (★★★★★): Santhiya Koh Yao Yai boasts a range of world-class amenities. The swimming pool, surrounded by lush tropical gardens, was a perfect place to unwind. The spa, with its serene atmosphere and skilled therapists, offered rejuvenating treatments that left me feeling completely relaxed. The fitness center was well-equipped, and the resort's private beach was a slice of paradise. Location (★★★★★): The resort's location is idyllic, perched on the tranquil northern shore of Koh Yao Yai. The breathtaking views of the Andaman Sea, the private beach, and the easy access to nearby attractions and activities make it a prime spot for travelers seeking both relaxation and adventure. Value for Money (★★★★☆): While Santhiya Koh Yao Yai is a premium resort, the experience it offers justifies the cost. The exceptional service, luxurious accommodations, and stunning location make it a worthwhile investment for those seeking a true escape from the everyday. In conclusion, Santhiya Koh Yao Yai Resort and Spa is a slice of paradise that transcends all expectations.

We booked Honeymoon Suite with Spa Bath and paid approx. £260 for 4 nights. We chose all our hotels on our 60 night trip carefully, looking at various booking platforms and own site Web pages. We chose this hotel for its location to the beach and the room type because we wanted privacy and a spa bath! Check in was quick, the room wasn't ready (we were early) and we were directed to the beach and pool. The pool area is lovely. There are actually 2 pools, 1 near reception as part of the pool access rooms, we felt this pool was a bit awkward. The other pool had about 10 sunbeds and 4 under cover day beds. The pool always had beds available during our stay. The water was a nice temperature and the pool area was very sunny. The beach, like a lot in Thailand is tidal so sometimes it looks lovely, other times not! The beach area is part of the restaurant, tables & seats on the sand and deck chairs and bean bags to lounge on. This is an area the hotel could very easily make better. Half the area is underneath trees, shedding leaves constantly, but where the deck chairs / bean bags are are not. If this area was raked it would make it so much more appealing. Its covered in beach debris and is really quite unpleasant. The seating area has a really cool caravan bar, chilled music and really nice cocktails, if a little pricey at 250bt plus 17%! Service is slow but friendly. Food is OK, nothing special. You cannot charge the bar/restaurant to your room which is a nuisance meaning you have to take your wallet. We were told we could charge room service / massage to the room?! The room itself was quite disappointing. It wasn't private nor was it special! It's quite a small room with a sofa, bed and TV then thru to the bathroom. Shower with no curtain, toilet, sink and spa bath. This suite shares a large balcony, you walk past 1 suite to get to yours. The suites are connected and you can hear the people next door speaking, moving about and using the toilet! So assume they can hear you too! The TV had Netflix but it didn't work, even after 3 alleged visits from an engineer. One night we ordered room service, even though no menu available! We recieved a call telling us it was ready for collection, they do not deliver to the room! This did affect our enjoyment of the room. Most annoyingly was the spa bath not working. There are bath bombs for sale in the room 180bt. We came to fill the bath to find no hot water! So the Honeymoon Suite with Spa bath was a bit of a fraud really! No room service, no Netflix, no spa bath, no privacy! Nobody seemed to care about our stay, at check out nobody asked anything! We put some laundry in and was told it would be ready 5pm next day. We hadn't returned to hotel so went next morning, check out day, to collect it. It wasn't there! Because we didn't collect it a 5pm it went back to the laundry!! On the whole we thought the hotel was a little disappointing. Their website needs updating to reflect changes as we'd booked based on

Such a wonderful spot and lovely hotel. The beach is beautiful, we enjoyed lazing on the loungers overlooking the water. The pool is large and the simple water slide is fun to try out! There's an easy flow between the beach, pool and hotel with pleasant areas to sit and enjoy the view.
