Bella Vista Motel is really good value for money. It is conveniently located within easy walking distance of Kaikoura restaurants and shops. It is also just fifteen minutes' walk from the Kaikoura Kayaks tours company. The motel room is relatively small but is functional and spotlessly clean. It has enough kitchen equipment, including a medium-sized fridge, for preparing a basic meal or breakfast. The shower is great. The motel owners are really friendly, and their cats love to be petted. The one downside is that the motel is located on State Route 1, the main road in the region. Large trucks rumble along the road all day long and through much of the night. But, if you use ear plugs for sleeping these will not be an issue. Bella Vista Motel might not be on the Kaikoura shoreline but why pay that premium when you can stay at Bella Vista and use the savings to spend on things like excellent restaurants and adventurous kayak tours.

New modern hotel with a mainly neutral colour scheme. Reasonable amount of parking on site, or plenty along the Esplanade. Rooms average size. We went as a group so we had no choice, many of us ended up in rooms with twin beds, they are very comfortable but when you share your bed with your spouse, this wasn't expected nor enjoyed. No electric blankets. It's the middle of winter. I did phone reception 3 times over a couple of issues but the calls were never answered. The rooms heat pump is good, though no heating in the corridor and reception is rather cool too. Tea and coffee making facilities and a small fridge. Glasses, but no wine glasses in the rooms. Good sized bathroom and good shower. They only provide one hard club chair, seating for anyone else there's a round squab or the bed. Most of the signs are in Maori, only one in our large group could understand a few words. The large group of Asians also staying had no idea of what anything meant. Excellent staff. Helpful and friendly. Uniforms a little casual for this level of hotel. Catering for large groups can often be a challenge, the food offered suited all tastes and was very good. Good cocktail menu. I don't drink much, but really enjoy an Aussie Shiraz, but they only stock NZ wines. Just meant I drank water. The hotel is sited down the south end of the Esplanade, so a bit of a walk to the township. Good, modern, clean, quiet 4.5 star hotel.

Un bellissimo accogliente accogliente ci ha salutati dopo un lungo viaggio da Christchurch. Situato proprio fuori dalla strada principale, è facile trovare. Le suite sono di grande dimensione, molto tranquillo, ben attrezzato, doccia, e ciascuno ha uno spazio esterno per guardare un cortile centrale. La piccola città affascinante è a 2 minuti di cammino. Questo non è un resort spiaggia ma grande per la balena delfini e sigillo.

I proprietari sono ancora buoni, e gli inviano i loro biscotti di torta al cliente.La colazione è molto buona, il lago è molto bello, il prezzo della stanza è più costoso, ma un centinaio e un sacco di merce.La stanza non ha cucina, se il pirata circostante deve andare al ristorante.

We were recommended to stay, by friends, and we were not disappointed. Very clean, tidy, cosy unit for an overnight stay on our way to Christchurch. Friendly hosts, Shirley and Morgan, and our unit 12, Studio unit had everything we needed. Quiet from highway noise. You do hear the 2 trains but we love hearing them. Loved the fact that we could go out the gate at the end of the property and walk onto the beautiful, pounding surf beach. Sunrise the next morning, with snow on the mountains, was stunning. We will be back.

I always stay here when coming up to kaikoura on surf trips. The place is perfect, hosts are incredible, rooms are tidy, warm, and clean…. It’s also walking distance to a ripper fish burger: great option when the waves are on or if you’re passing through.

There's more choice of accommodation in Kaikoura these days, with the recent opening of the Sudima hotel. Nevertheless, we opted for this small but beautiful old hotel instead, forsaking swanky newness for period charm and the personal touch. We were not disappointed. We chose a Historic Waterfront Room for our stay - and we loved it. Sometimes, rooms in older hotels like this have compromises, because they were never built to have their own bathrooms, for example. Not so here. Our lovely spacious room had an equally spacious bathroom, all beautifully and tastefully decorated with stylish quality materials. Although the weather wasn't quite warm enough to make the most our balcony, we could still enjoy the sea view from our amazingly comfortable bed. The downstairs bar was a relaxing and friendly place to while away a little time in the afternoon over a drink. Erin, our cheerful and vivacious host, was very helpful with suggestions for dining. We were grateful also to owner Jen, who worked around our changing arrangements when Covid interfered with our original holiday dates.

Questo posto era fantastico. Mi sentivo come stare in una casa, che davvero sei. I terreni erano bellissimi - mi dispiace solo che non abbiamo avuto la possibilità di guardare nelle tubature calde. Non è camminabile per la CBD, sarebbe l'unico a sfondo, ma è una breve e bella guida, quindi se avete il trasporto - consideratelo. La colazione era incredibile.
