Ostelli a San Diego

This hostel is set up really well and it pains me to leave such a negative review as you can see so many elements are really good such as the community rooms/laundry area/check in. The issue we had was our room 306 was above the Main Street for drinking plus the bike cabs used under our bedroom window as a cab rank blasting music out all night until 4am on their trikes. The window does not close properly and when we returned to the room after dinner and drinks I obtained 4 towels from reception to wedge into the gaps to try and muffle the music and traffic sound. I noticed the back tube for the air con was broke and I tried repairing this with some plasters we had as it was pumping hot air into the room as it was a nasty noisy old style unit that went via the window thus making even more gaps in the window. Even with ear plugs in, wedging the window closed with towels and the very noisy aircon on for white noise you can hear the music/road traffic. I messaged reception at around 2/3am to see if we could be moved to another room but we would have to vacate the current room immediately at 2/3am before they would give me a key for an inside room with no road noise. My partner was sort of sleeping and I asked could we not move in the morning fully? to be told in a rude, nasty manner NO! The lack of consideration, empathy and emotional intelligence in this situation was unbelievable especially considering the time.. I then cancelled the other 3 nights stay immediately due to the unprofessional and nasty attitude of the person. Whilst packing in the morning I found a nasty old mattress under the bed covered in dust. The room was quite dusty and was in need of a deep clean. Such a shame as if the room had windows that closed or/& secondary glazing it would have been amazing.

Once again I had an incredible stay here, the staff and location are both terrific! Just like last time, Olivia was totally awesome and did everything she could to ensure that my stay was perfect. Everything was very clean and well-kept in all places throughout as well. The entire setup is organized to help make new friends, ones from all over the country/world, which is a plus for people who are socially active or like to get to know interesting people. The price is great as well, for those who are keeping costs on their mind. I feel both younger and older people would be able to handle the setup, the bunks are very easy to navigate, not cumbersome or hard to get in/out of at all. Overall, I have no complaints or bad thoughts in any way whatsoever, everything went so well for this most recent stay here. Olivia was SUPER professional & friendly throughout the entire experience again & I highly encourage anyone who wants to spend time in this part of San Diego to go ahead with Samesun.

Location: you know how it is Location Location Location is always key, well this hostel is so close to ghetto, being on 14th Street, a sad conglomeration of homelessness and crime. I saw a worker having to go after a bystander that seemed to have been waiting for anyone to come out of the place, then a biker stole a displaced person's handbag (appeared to have passed out under the influence outside the premises). Staff: I liked Carlos and Ricky a lot, both were always very helpful, accommodating, so was the darker lady at the front desk and the cleaning attendant. I would have problems with my NZ phone to rebook and extend my stays, both would just take care of my reservation by phone and they would email me the confirmation. This happened twice as I extended my stay for a total of 3 weeks. Unfortunately when I tried to do the same through a new worker on the phone (I apologize to not know his name), he sternly asserted that Ricky and Carlos should not be taking reservations by phone. I politely tried to explain myself that I've always had problems with my phone, that I was a repeat or returning guest, and Ricky and Carlos were just being helpful. My mistake was I had asked him if he was the owner then I realized who he was, through the same voice that I would hear in the lobby getting upset over little things with other guests. As soon as I asked if he might have been the owner or manager (since he kept saying Ricky and Carlos were wrong to have helped me process my reservations to extend via phone and email), he hung up and then sent me the email, which I have attached here. Common areas: I wouldn't say they are the classiest and cleanest of hostels in town. If you want a real ”classy” hostel, unassuming without shoving the term in your face, GO TO HI HOSTEL (HOSTEL INTERNATIONAL), they are the cleanest, classy if one must say, organized, huge common areas that are not noisy (Stay Classy can very noisy), right in the middle of Gaslamp Quarter and non-profit. Bed: excellent concept of the separation of ”quarters” via heavy curtains, but tbh it got claustrophobic if you stay long enough in your lil space. It also felt like a morgue as you enter the passageway of the room with all these quarters.

It was my first stay in an hostel and it was perfect. Little Italy is close to a lot of activities in San Diego. The rooms are really clean and there is plenty of spaces for stuffs. The employees are always nice and welcoming, they also have great recommendations on the locals things. You can also spent time with other people anytime, we had an amazing thanksgiving dinner it was so much fun to live an American tradition with so many people.

Another enjoyable stay during SD Comic Con! Stephan, the manager was very responsive to and questions and requests. Wanted to mention that staff member Eric was very helpful.  I appreciated his help in getting the morning going with much needed coffee. The bed in my room was very comfy.  The facilities were very clean as usual. The kitchen was in excellent condition.  I hope to stay there again next next year!
