The Merry Harriers

What a brilliant pub with quirky, but comfortably luxurious accommodation in the Shepherd Huts. The pub was staffed by super-friendly and efficient young staff and the pub - on a Friday/Sat night anyway - was buzzy and lively. The food was excellent. The Wagyu Steak and Crispy potatoes in particular. Go for the Huts rather than the Garden rooms - the Huts are in a little oasis of its own opposite the pub and sitting outside with the fire-pit was joy.

My wife and myself - accompanied by my brother - had lunch earlier today at the Merry Harriers in the village of Hambledon - a 4 mile drive (much of it along narrow country roads) from Godalming. We arrived slightly early for our noon booking to be shown to a table for 2 next to the rear door. This was soon corrected to 3 but - should we pay a return visit - I wouldn’t want this table again as the door is in constant use! Both our drink and food orders were promptly taken and this was in keeping with the excellent service we received from all the staff throughout our stay. On the food front, my bother and I had perfectly cooked Scotch Eggs (not an easy thing to achieve) and shared a Roast Pork Collar platter. The latter was of the highest quality with one exception - there was really enough Pork for the two of us! Exactly the same can be said about our deserts (Rice & Sticky Toffee Puddings) - both absolutely delicious but I have never come across such a small rice pudding before! All in all, it was a most enjoyable experience but, for the above reasons - particularly bearing in mind this is one of the more expensive local Sunday Lunch options - I’m undecided about paying a return visit!

.Visited revitalised MH on a fish Friday and impressed by the food and quality service. The Sunday visit is less favourable. Dirty greasy plates sent back.. Roast pork was very fatty, rectified by mgr, given the price. Coffee plonked down on table, no sugar or spoons. Manager attentive, other staff lacking some basic hospitality skills. Gratuity still charged in full at 12 1/2%. . Dogs welcome, but can be overwhelming. Need to take stock, might lose out on customer experience

Five star all the way. Stunning location. Comfortable rooms and amazing food. Staff were exceptional. Will 100% return!

From start to finish the stay was perfect. A kind and helpful manager, amazing owners, beautiful food, a great and authentic atmosphere and finally, the best room we could have asked for. We slept so well, and even went on a full moon walk into the fields around. Highly recommend the Merry Harriers, it’s full of charm and community. All the best, Lauren

This was a birthday meal, and by far the best sunday roast beef and sticky toffee pudding i've ever had, Service was amazing, Staff couldnt of done more, There is no where else like this near by, Have already booked another meal, Cant wait to return,

Having arrived at the extremely lively pub, we were taken to our cosy, well presented garden room overlooking a wonderful view of fields and llamas…quite idyllic! It was a peaceful room, totally different to the pub atmosphere. We were staying there because we were going elsewhere that night and don’t live in the area but we did have a very good breakfast. All the staff were young, helpful and efficient.

Very over priced food for incredibly small portions. Nothing special and overpriced. Disappointed as I was looking forward to a decent meal. . Makes you realise other local pubs are far better. Won’t be recommending!

Super meal for 6 yesterday. Warm, friendly, busy, with good service and fabulous food. Everything on the menu is a little different from the norm, and all the better for it. Even better that all the suppliers are local. And so nice that it is still a proper pub that serves food, not just a restaurant. Highly recommend.
