"This hotel’s advertisement is highly misleading.
Firstly, it presents itself as “by IHG”, creating the impression that it is already an IHG hotel. However, the staff later told me that the hotel is only “working towards” joining IHG and is not actually part of IHG yet. This is extremely misleading for guests booking based on brand expectations.
Secondly, the hotel was under major renovation during my stay from 5th to 9th May, but this was not clearly stated in the booking description, nor was I informed in advance. The moment I entered the hotel, I was shocked by the loud construction noise from the restaurant and lobby areas.
Thirdly, the booking page still advertised a buffet breakfast, but in reality there was no proper breakfast service available. Instead, breakfast was offered as takeaway, or I was suggested to eat near the entrance on three tiny tables beside the construction area. This was completely unacceptable.
A proper breakfast was one of the main reasons I chose this hotel, as I expected to have breakfast comfortably before going out to work each day. The situation seriously disrupted my itinerary and negatively affected my London trip.
The temporary reception area was also poorly arranged. A tiny reception desk had been placed beside the construction site, and because of the noise, I could barely hear what the receptionist was saying during check-in.
The room itself had additional problems. The bathroom ventilation fan was extremely noisy and could not be switched off. I was told this was “designed like that” because there is no bathroom window, meaning the fan must run 24 hours a day. The suggested solution from staff was simply to close the bathroom door, which is not an acceptable solution.
Even the lifts were problematic. The elevator buttons often did not light up when pressed, so guests could not tell whether the lift was functioning or responding.
Overall, this was a very disappointing and stressful experience. The hotel should have been transparent about its renovation works, its actual affiliation status, and the lack of proper breakfast facilities before accepting bookings."
