Trascorrere una notte al Changdi Inn, immerso nel cuore dello storico distretto di Tulou di Hongkeng, è stata davvero una delle esperienze più indimenticabili del mio viaggio a Xiamen. This hotel is a beautifully converted tulou, offering a modern and polished take on a traditional structure. While it may lack some of the original lived-in charm you might expect from such heritage buildings, it still provides a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The service was a standout, staff were warm, attentive, and always willing to help. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble, which really enhanced the overall experience. As for the room design, we were initially impressed by the split-level layout, with the bedroom upstairs and the bathroom and toilet below. However, this became a bit inconvenient, especially for older guests needing to use the bathroom during the night. The shower setup was another slight drawback, as there’s no space to hang clothes or towels inside. This means you have to change outside the shower area, making it difficult for others to use the lower level at the same time. These were minor inconveniences rather than major issues, and they didn’t take away from our overall enjoyment of the stay.

Beautifully designed and renovated earth building! It was nice to get to stay in one of the tulous itself. We rented the whole building of 6 rooms for our family. All rooms are on the 2nd floor. 5 out of 6 rooms have a bathroom that is on a separated floor from the bedroom. There’s only one room that has bathroom on the same level as the bedroom. So, it may not be ideal for the elders. The hotel is situated in a quiet residential area. There’s a small stream of river flowing in front of the house throughout the village. Very serene. We got to see locals living their usual lives, farming and picking crops. However, it’s a bit far from any main tulou sights. The staff were very nice, but lack knowledge of the attraction sights.

The front desk are extremely helpful. The room is clean and well equipped. No regret staying here. They help us booked transport to all the attractions and made recommendations on how we should enjoy our time here.

This small hotel is located at the edge of the old town and within and is within easy walking distance of everywhere except the high-speed railway station. Lots and lots of shops and places selling all manner of food literally at the doorstep of the hotel. Shortly after checking in they thoughtfully sent me one document introducing some of the local delicacies and another one introducing the major attractions of the area, including the delightful mountain village of Dingwu Ling, that wasn't on my itinerary, but turned out to be the highlight of the entire trip. The staff were attentive and helpful throughout my short stay here.

Everything was good until taxi service provided by accommodation. Driver was rude, making decisions where to go and when to go on his own against agreement with the hotel owner, non-communicative, escalated the conflict in the end and dropped me off far from railway station. Was supposed to drive me around for 4 hours, instead only 2.5, that including all the time wasted on disputes. As a result I didn't see what I wanted to see and both of us got angry. I paid him less, but I don't think he deserves money at all because of his attitude and the fact that I didn't get the service I wanted.
