Lovelady Shield Country House Hotel

We had such a lovely overnight stay here. There was a very warm welcome from the staff who were also really helpful in helping us when we got back from our very muddy walk, and offered to clean and dry our boots. This was much appreciated. Lovely breakfast and evening meal and everyone so friendly.

Fantastic little country hotel on the Northumbria/Cumbia border. Renovated and reopened in 2023. Lovely cosy but spacious room with new beds and carpet, crisp quality bed linen, thick fluffy towels and large wardrobe. Lovely bathroom with bath and great rain shower. Fabulous views over the river and fields. Idyllically quiet. All you hear is the river and the birdsong! The staff really make your stay special. Niomi leads a very happy team and nothing is too much trouble. Really personal service. Wonderful breakfast with quality local produce and delicious roasted vine tomatoes. There is also a coffee shop daytime and a bistro serving delicious home made evening meals. This place is so good I almost want to keep it to myself! Note: the hotel has recently been bought by the Payman Group and all the booking confirmations etc come by email from them but they are strangely written in odd English and the only contact details on them are for their contact centre which seems to be overseas. I was worried that the booking was not legit due to the dodgy English but all was fine. I do think the communication should all come from the hotel itself in proper English and not from this obscure holding company who ask you to sign terms and conditions that are not appropriate in the UK market. That worried me. I needn’t have worried because this hotel is a hidden gem and we will come back soon to visit Hadrian’s Wall

Just returned home after spending four nights at this Gem of an Hotel nestled in the countryside about 2 miles outside of Alston. We were met by very friendly staff who had given us a room upgrade including a big comfortable king size bed and tremendous views. Breakfasts were plentiful and well cooked. The evening meal menu was delicious and the dishes were exceptional considering the very competitive price. Thanks to Naomi and all her staff who went above and beyond to make our stay so memorable. If you’re looking for peace and tranquility in an hotel where nothing is too much trouble for the guests, then don’t hesitate to book. You won’t be disappointed 😀

Stopped off for coffee at this beautiful little gem! Welcomed by the lovely Naomi, so friendly and full of ideas of what to do whilst we were visiting the area. Enjoyed a scone & cup of tea on damp day served by Sharon, who looked after us very well. Wish we had booked to stay here. Will definitely be returning & would recommend to anyone!

Had a relaxing stay at the love lady for my birthday our room was clean and the bed was very comfy fluffy white towels our food was good and at the end of our meal they brought out a cake with candles nice touch staff members friendly and always time for a chat hope to return again ♥️♥️

My wife and I booked this hotel because of the location and we had been here before - Naomi and all the staff were very friendly, helpful and professional. We booked a three night stay with breakfast - the room was excellent very clean and full of character. Our window views overlooked a small stream to the front and gardens to the side. The breakfast was great and the full English kept us going until mid afternoon. We booked an evening meal on our first night and it was great value for money. Everything you’d expect from a Country house hotel. We were able to visit Ullswater and Pooley bridge one day and the next day the historic town of Hexham then over to North Shields on the east coast (Tynemouth) The drive across to the lakes was enjoyable and the views breathtaking. This hotel is ideal for walkers wanting a few days hiking or even just a stop over on your way across country. Truly a marvellous find. Can’t wait to visit again.

Had the most lovely stay here! Staff were friendly and welcoming, and the hotel is situated in a beautiful location. I felt very well rested and recuperated post stay. All-round was great value for money and I would not hesitate to return at a future date

Booked in for a birthday celebration, absolutely top notch hotel and super friendly and helpful staff, beautiful old building and superbly maintained, we were even offered a free room upgrade as it was my birthday, unbelievable! The food was excellent too and the room was without a single flaw. Fantastic value too, huge thanks to all at Love Lady Shield!

We originally booked from Wednesday 7th February 2024 till Saturday 10th February 2024 in the Shieling 2 bedroom cottage as we were wanting somewhere to stay so we could assist our Daughter into moving into her new home in the area. The date to move was brought forward so we needed to add another night. This was no trouble at all to do so we extended our stay from Tuesday 6th February 2024. On entering the cottage we were greeted by a blast of warm air which was very much needed. A welcome tray of tea, coffee, hot chocolate sugar and biscuits were proved. So kettle on whilst we inspected our home for the next 4 nights. Kitchen was well equipped, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge freezer. Halogen hob and fan oven. Everything you needed was made available. Table & chairs to seat 4. Living area in the same area, 2 large leather squishy sofas, coffee table, large electric log burner style fire and decent size TV. All accomodation on 1 floor which was a blessing. 2 good size bedrooms fully equipped with spacious wardrobes, dressing table and floor fan. 1 bedroom a double the 2nd ziplinked superking. Good size bathroom with shower over bath, very powerful. We didnt go for breakfast in the hotel as was too busy. We did finally dine in The Love Lady Shield Hotel restaurant ont the Saturday 10th February to celebrate our birthdays which our Daughter had booked. We were welcomed with balloons and banners and a delicious meal created by the new chef Andy. The owner Naomi and staff came out with birthday cake and candles and sang happy birthday to us, which was such a kind thing to do. The staff are incredible and so friendly and always smiling. With Naomi at the helm this place is a treat and so peacefull. Will definitely return
