Set in a beautiful location, not far from the lake and village, and surrounded by the mountains. The hostel is accessible by bus and you can take many pleasant bus rides through the Lake District from here. However, it is the help we received from the staff (as is the case at all YHA hostels I've been to) at this hostel that really stood out during our stay. After realising we would be unable to continue our journey to another nearby YHA hostel, the staff were able to accommodate us at YHA Buttermere for the remainder of our trip. In general, the staff are very friendly, polite and give excellent customer service. The YHA is a wonderful organisation with a great mission and history. They deserve to be more well known.

Wow!! What an amazing hotel. We arrived in the middle of a power outage, to be met by polite friendly and professional staff, we were made aware of the situation and offered a seat by the fire with complimentary nibbles, we were kept up to date with the situation throughout until power was restored. Considering the disruption, the staff remained calm and all food was delivered promptly and was delicious. The rooms were very tastefully done, well equipped and spotless, beds were extremely comfy and the rooms were toasty warm on a night that got below freezing. Breakfast was really good and we were well looked after by all of the staff. We have to say it is one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in and would 100% recommend The Melbreak to anyone. Well done everyone concerned

I have stayed here previously also and always found it to be warm comfortable and incredibly relaxing. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the beds are so cozy its hard to get up for breakfast. The breakfast is so worth it when you do with lots of choices and cooked perfectly. Clare and Craig are brilliant hosts and full of good advice/ knowledge about the area. Its easy to spend an hour or two chatting at the well stocked bar. Always the first place i check when staying in the lakes.

Non c' è TV da vedere in nessuna parte dell' alloggio , né una radio di qualsiasi tipo , per complicare questa mancanza di comunicazione la ricezione WiFi è molto instabile . È il tipo di posto che la maggior parte degli ospiti apprezza con il silenzio e la tranquillità e diverse specie di vita aviaria e selvaggia può essere visto nel giardino. Tuttavia , il suo aumento del 45% anno per anno che trovo deludente. Il prezzo del 2019 è stato di 30 sterline per persona a notte per 2 persone in una camera doppia o gemella o 35 sterline per occupazione singola in una camera doppia. Questo rappresenta un massiccio aumento del 45% all'anno !! Il proprietario , la signora Keren Lockwood sostiene che i prezzi stanno aumentando . Accordo , i prezzi stanno aumentando , l'inflazione è attualmente in corso a circa il 4% , la signora Lockwood , non il 45% !!! Suggerisco che i vostri figli , Nimrod , Hawthorne e Cameron abbiano fatto qualche contributo a questo massiccio aumento dei prezzi , ma per 100 sterline per notte ci sono un surplus di alloggi superiori disponibili nei laghi del Nord , se i clienti si sentono volentieri aggiornati a ciò che la signora Lockwood può offrire per lo stesso prezzo.

The perfect peaceful break in green and lush surroundings. Lovely old Victorian building with cosy contemporary rooms, an intimate bar, spacious comfy lounge and dining area with added entertainment in the shape of a busy bird feeder. The evening meals are simply top notch, with a five course set menu to make you groan with pleasure! And the breakfasts are similarly wonderful. We felt very spoiled. Full marks, chef! The staff are excellent. Nothing is too much trouble. We had some initial difficulty with the car charging port - there is a rather complicated method of getting the darn thing to work - but we got there in the end. Highly recommended. Go.

Fantastico piccolo Inn. Rimase per una notte tra le attività del distretto del lago in onore e buttermere. Circa 30 minuti di auto da entrambi. Sulla strada dal lago bassenthwaite che era perfetto per rifrire dopo un giorno attivo. Abbiamo soggiornato nella camera 25 che era deliziosa! Perfetta per una famiglia di quattro. Bello piccolo giardino comunale con un banco piquenico. Parcheggio facile. Personale carino, e cibo era grande! Sicuramente tornerà!
