ドイツの都市には書店が少ないのですが、その分図書館が充実しています。
ドイツと日本の都市とを比較すると、ドイツには魚屋や八百屋等の生鮮食品店と、書店が少ないのに気づきます。固定した店舗の魚屋や八百屋は定期的に出店している市がその役割をしていて、書店は充実した図書館が代位しているのです。この市立図書館も充分にその役割を負っています。
