We were given an afternoon tea for two voucher as a wedding present. When I went to book I saw that they also did a teddy bears picnic style afternoon tea for children, so we decided to take our son for a treat before he went back to school. We were warmly greeted by William who then went on to serve us. He was so lovely and super knowledgable in all of the afternoon tea items; he and Abin who also served us made our experience even more special! As for the afternoon tea itself, I’d go as far as to say it was the best we’ve ever had! There was plenty of food with lots of variety of both savoury and sweet. We will definitely return!

My husband and I visited for 3 days for a quiet relaxing joint birthday celebration (50yrs ish!) We found the hotel to be exactly what was advertised on their site, being friendly, welcoming, comfortable and professional. The room was a little small (room 6) but had everything we needed. The only negative was that it was very hot. We worked out that the heat was coming from the bathroom so kept the door shut and the window open making sleep possible. The shower was amazing! So much power and instant hot water, we loved it. The staff were all very helpful and friendly, the food was delicious and the house and grounds were immaculate. We would definitely return.

We have just returned from anonymous fabulous stay at Merewood. We have now stayed 4 times and we love it. This time we stayed in room 2 and it’s now our favourite. Having stayed in room 5 last time we thought it couldn’t be beaten but we actually preferred room 2. Very large room, bueatifully furnished, light and the views from the picture window are incredible. The bathroom looks newly fitted and was gorgeous. ( tray needed in shower for shampoo etc) While we we there we had the afternoon tea which is by far the best afternoon tea we have ever had. We had the taster menu one night and ate in the grill the other night. All very enjoyable. We highly recommend Merewood and will be back to stay again.

We got a great deal for the merewood in a double room which was lovely with a great en-suite,loved the entrance with the grand staircase and the fire lit ,stylish bar and the breakfast and evening meal was delicious and all staff were really lovely & pleasant,will be back soon

We used our vouchers we had, for stay with 7 course taster menu. Loved the view from our room and the hotel. The taster menu was wonderful, but they only had it for one night of our stay. Not much choice on the bistro menu but we both enjoyed what we chose. Thank you for a relaxing stay.

Had a three night stay in this wonderful country house in perfect grounds within minutes (by bus) distance of both Ambleside and Windermere. We booked a double room (9) with a view of staff car park and woodland. Room was clean and well equipped. Bathroom was clean with plenty of fresh towels. Staff were very friendly and well informed about the area and amenities. We ate at both breakfast and dinner time. Breakfast staff were brilliant. Food was tasty and well presented. Dinner staff had no problem accommodating us, even at the last minute. We ate at the grill and also had room service. Surprisingly, it was reasonably priced for the area. The butternut squash soup with a side of chips on the terrace overlooking the Mere was a highlight. Bar area was amazing. Perfect music. Floor mosaics were intriguing. Lampshades were beautiful. The views were captivating. Thank you to the staff for such a wonderful stay.

Our outdoor terrace is a great space to take in our splendid views for an al fresco bite to eat or refreshing drink. This was our 2nd visit to the Merewood in April 2023, where we stayed for 1 night and as our first stay, it was again a lovely relaxing stay. The hotel overlooks Windermere, and on a clear day, the view from the gardens is outstanding. The hotel has been restored to retain many of the original features, including the panelled hall and reception. The bedrooms are comfortable and quiet with all the necessities required for a short stay. We ate dinner in the Arboreal restaurant, opting for the 7 course tasting menu, which didn't disappoint. The flavours and imaginative presentation of the dishes provided a unique dining experience with the knowledgeable server explaining what each dish comprised of. Breakfast was in the main dining room and offered a good choice of pastries, cereals , fruit etc aswell as a good selection of cooked breakfasts to set you up for the day. All in all, we had a lovely overnight stay and would recommend staying here if in the area.
