We chose The Swan because of the central location, its reputation and its history: we were not disappointed. In our experience, the staff were all friendly and wanting to help. Particular mention of Martin, the General Manager, who we chanced to meet in the car park when he offered to help us with our luggage. Of all the hotels we have stayed in, The Swan offered the best genuine choice of gluten-free meals in the evening. This was true for starters, mains and deserts. Breakfast was a little more problematic but at least the GF bread didn't have the dreaded "grey ring" inside the crust from lengthy storage in the freezer and after a couple of days, the chef made up some porridge. The "room" we stayed in astonished us. It consisted of an enormous bath and shower room, a separate WC, a large lounge and an exceedingly large bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe. Perhaps more than anything else, it had a full view of the west facade of the cathedral across the green. Technically, it was Room 26, but Hyacinth Bucket would have used (probably often and loudly) the correct nomenclature of the Cathedral Suite. Should you make a wise choice and stay here, please note the warning about the limited number of spaces available in the car park. Access to the parking area is tricky but perfectly doable. We stayed four nights and managed to park on site each time.

Had a fantastic time at the hotel and the stand out features were the location and room (4 poster (room 40)), and the hotel is definitely in keeping with the local rustic aesthetic :) Staff were always polite and helpful. The only downside was the cooked breakfast which a good vet could have had running back round in the field in no time but the fresh coffee went a long way to making up for it. Would visit again.

Right across from The Pantiles. In the heart of Tunbridge Wells. Walking distance to the main attractions. Congratulations to the front desk staff, who took great care of us throughout our stay. Looking forward to our next stay there!

Had a weekend away to visit Wells and surrounds. Really liked the hotel. Brilliantly situated for the town. Great staff - v friendly. Lovely breakfast with a good range. Busy as there were a couple of weddings in the town but that gave it a lovely buzz. Only issues was the bathroom was really tight and small. And the fittings a bit poor. Other than that, it was fine.

This is a review for the restaurant only as we didn’t stay in the hotel. We had a fantastic experience at The Swan Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed dining in their restaurant. Staff were super attentive, regularly coming over to check that our food was ok and that we had enough drinks etc. The food we had was delicious too! We can’t wait to go back again!

Lovely hotel situated in a very good position, unfortunately had a terrible nights sleep, the bed was awful and the room we found rather small expected more for the price we paid.

Enjoyed our stay as part of a party of ten for 3 nights. Generally everything was very good but quality of evening meals was variable. They did seem to struggle with our party size and the admin of our preordered meals occasionally went astray. Parking limited but that's not unusual for character hotels in the centre of cities. Despite the negatives would still recommend for a stay right in the the centre of Wells

Hi we were due to stay 5 nights at swan hotel from 31/08/24. However after paying deposit I went down to settle the rest of the bill on the 1st night. This is where things went downhill. There system wouldn't except hsbc global debit card although everywhere else we used it including Disney excepted without any problem. So after Jerrilyn on desk went back and forth to manager the arrogant Mo the manager finally showed face. He said because we had no other means of payment we could stop the first night because we had paid a deposit but then we had to get out. So at 7 pm at night my wife and I who are in our 60's had to go and search for some new accommodation. We called at Yacht club which was nearest and after some enquiries a kind manager called Jack found us some accommodation on disney much to the relief of my tearful and stressful wife. When we saw Arrogant Mo next morning at check out he wasn't one bit bothered and his final words were a sacarcastic have a great day. Between him and Jerrilyn we could have slept on streets for all they cared. Terrible customer service and no help at all. So before you stay there make sure they accept your payment card or they will put you on streets John Pape

Lovely hotel. Very central with beautiful views of the cathedral from the terrace. Staff were all very efficient and friendly. We would definitely stay again!

This old coaching inn across from the cathedral should be a jewel, but sadly it isn’t. We arrived from LHR after a two-hour drive and a ten-hour flight from SFO. I didn’t expect that our room would be ready, but I did expect a warm welcome. I don’t think the gal at the front desk even made eye contact with me: leave your bags, come back later. I asked if she could take our number and call when the room was ready. She reluctantly took our number but never called. We asked for a towel to wash up in the lobby restroom and fortunately that request was granted. Didn’t ask what our plans were, didn’t pull out a map and point to areas of interest, didn’t make any suggestions about her town. Fortunately, I was prepared but it is always courteous of a proprietor to help a guest make the most out of his/her visit. When we returned to the hotel in the mid-afternoon, we were given a key card and told to exit the building, walk up the entrance to the parking lot, turn left and follow the signs to the room. Any stairs, we asked? No. Well, there were. Four sets of them. I hauled back to the lobby and asked for some assistance. A young man kindly walked me back and when he was outside our room with our bags, he realized the woman gave us a card for our room, but the room required an actual key. So back to the lobby to retrieve a key! I must say the room was nice and large. Skimpy on the towels, but I had seen a pile of towels at the bottom of the stairwell, so I picked up a few. Our windows faced High Street but the noise didn’t bother us or affect our sleep. The buffet breakfast at $20 each wasn’t worth it, but we had an early train and nothing else was open in the area. The departing morning desk gal was so much more friendly and helpful...wish she had been the one to meet us upon arrival.

The Food and service in the hotel restaurant is very poor - Nice place to stay - Hotel and room wise but do not eat there.

Stayed for one night. The Swan Hotel is lovely, smart country casual feel. Located in the very centre of Wells. easy to find -google maps took us straight there. Generous free carpark at the back of the hotel. Hotel reception and all staff very friendly and helpful. A good size double room at the back of the hotel was very comfortable with generous size bathroom having both a bath and separate shower. A good breakfast with a very wide choice and friendly service. Highly recommend.
