The Remote Resort

The Remote Resort is a small but WONDERFUL resort. It seems to attract couples as a romantic place, but for my wife and I, it was our luxury base to go scuba diving on the incredible and famous “Rainbow Reef”. Having 30 years of diving experience around the Caribbean and the tropical Pacific, we can attest to the reef’s beauty and condition. We rank it near the best! Remote Resort runs small dive boats so you’re never on the crowded cattle dive boats that other resorts have. Our Divemaster, Wilson, was phenomenal in knowing the reef’s dive locations, current, and finding the reef critters that we would never be able to spot!!! He was simply the best Divemaster we have ever had always paying careful attention to the divers above and under water. Regarding the resort, our room was beautiful and comfortable. Each days meal options were excellent! The food was gourmet! The service was OUTSTANDING. Each evening when we reported to the main building for dinner, we were taken to our own private waterfront table where they would bring us each course as we dined next to our own fire. And each evening, our dinner table was in a different spot, with our last dinner on the end of their wharf. For non-scuba divers, snorkeling on their “house reef” is amazing. Only in Papua New Guinea have we ever experienced such a pristine and beautiful house reef. This is a major plus for non-divers as you can get a real glimpse of what the Rainbow Reef offers. Many guest took advantage of their snorkeling tours out to the Rainbow Reef itself. Absolutely breathtaking! Bring your underwater camera! Travel to the resort was simple enough. They provided clear instructions and got us from and back to the and to the Taveuni airport without issue. You will not be disappointed with this “boutique” resort. My wife and I highly recommend it and all of our future resort trips will be judged against The Remote Resort.

We have just returned from the remote resort for a 15 night stay to celebrate my 60th birthday. The Resort has just been awarded the Travellers Choice award and this is 100% so deserved. Our stay was faultless, the Team and they are a ‘unique team’ go above and beyond to make sure everything is just perfect, nothing is too much trouble. We stayed in Villa Vessi which is nestled in the trees. The villa has a large very comfortable king size bed, a ceiling fan and two other large fans which adequately deal with the heat and humidity, and two large chairs and the Villa overlooks the Ocean. There is a fridge which is ample for water and minibar and also a room safe. The outside shower/bathroom is a great feature and had a washing line for drying clothes. The Villa has a large sun deck with sun loungers and a plunge pool which over looks the Ocean, and also a large day bed which is undercover if you need shade/shelter. The room is cleaned to a high standard daily with fresh towels. There is also a nightly turndown service. The maids were lovely and took pride in their duties. The restaurant staff were very attentive and had a great sense of humor. The chefs were fabulous, the food was freshly prepared and presented to a very high standard, with a great selection of choice, delicious. Our evening meals were at different locations on the resort for our entire stay, giving you a secluded setting with lanterns and a fire pit with the tables dressed to a high standard. A lovely unique touch. Vilisi made sure that we did not miss out on any of the experiences. We went on several snorkelling trips by boat in the surrounding area and the vibrant reefs and marine life did not disappoint (there is no bleaching). We also were so lucky to see 5 Manta Rays. All snorkelling adventures are undertaken with care and attention for your safety (thank you Faye, Helen, Vilisi and Winston) who were in the water with us making sure we were ok, and educating us to the coral and fish. The Resort also had its own vibrant house reef which is spectacular and accessible from the jetty high/low tide. The waterfall trip is a must, thank you Faye who took great care of us. The SPA team are on hand daily and we both highly recommend the massage. The village visit is a must, the warm welcome you receive from the families is wonderful. The children take great pleasure in showing you around and the highlight of joining in with the villages singing and dancing, truly memorable. Our evening formed a bit of a routine of sitting at the bar chatting with Zoe, who was always on hand to answer any questions we had, and sharing her experiences of Fiji. All of the staff were more than happy to share their personal stories with you, of their villages and family life which was so interesting. For my birthday after returning from snorkelling I returned to the Villa to find that it has been decorated with balloons and a lovely birthday message from the Team and a bottle of Champagne to celebrate.

We chose The Remote Resort because of the proximity to the Rainbow Reef and opportunities for diving and Snorkeling. The diving and Snorkeling were a 10 out of 10, Healthy reefs and fish galore. While at Remote Resort we chose the Ocean Retreat Burre and had our own private pool, we used it every day and the water temperature was perfect. The food was excellent and we loved the choice of having meals in the communal area, in our room or in several of the special memorable locations on the property. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. A special shout out to Vilisi for her help when we forgot that American cell phone charges wont work with Fiji plugs, She brought us her own charger. There were so many enjoyable moments that were made more special by Vilisi's ideas and help during the stay. If you chose this resort do not miss the private picnic the location was fantastic. Hope to return again because this resort was so special!.

What can I say - it is an amazing place, with friendliest and best staff. Food is amazing, Villas are great and the sevice second to none. I had a wonderful time learned how to scuba dive, went fishing and ate like a king. Met some wonderful people from around the world and will not hesitate to recommend to my friends family and complete strangers.

We were very impressed by how friendly and smiling the whole staff was and how they always greeted us with a smile everywhere. We have been to some beautiful resorts, but (unfortunately) this was not the case everywhere. It is also remarkable that we experienced this not only with the staff in the restaurant, reception, etc., but really with EVERYONE. No staff member was too busy to answer a question or do a job, etc. They always accepted and carried out everything immediately. It also seemed that this was not just an "act" for the guests, but that everyone really enjoyed working and was there for the guests. We always felt very welcome. Our villa was large and well equipped. We felt very comfortable. We also really liked the fact that dinner was always served downstairs and that there was a lot of distance between the individual tables. This created a romantic atmosphere. Another positive thing to mention is that we were given a new table every evening. The meals were extensive, varied, there was a large selection and it was excellent every time. This applies to breakfast, lunch and dinner.

This was my fourth trip to Fiji and the best by far. Previously I stayed at Matangi Resort, a very exclusive 5-star island hotel/spa, and Remote Resort was far better in all ways. I recommend Remote Resort without any qualification. If you love the ocean environment, you should consider that many if not most coral reefs in Fiji are not in good shape. Some of the few remaining pristine reefs are near the Remote Resort. That is because they protect their area from fishing or overuse. There are no tourist boats stopping there. There are no roads to get to this area. It truly is a step back in time environmentally, with every modern convenience you could wish. The staff is exceptional.

My husband and I travelled to The Remote Resort for our 25th wedding anniversary in July/August, 2023 and it’s absolutely impossible to adequately describe the beauty, tranquility and shear perfection of this slice of heaven. We’ve previously travelled all over Viti Levu, the Mamanucas and Yasawas but this was our first trip north to Vanua Levu. It really is a hidden paradise where the sea meets the rainforest and it’s absolutely worth the extra travel to get there! The amazing resort staff made our stay the best we’ve ever experienced, not just in Fiji, but all over the world. The friendly, helpful staff, the beautifully designed and appointed bures, the heavenly massages and outstanding, attentive service are just some of the amazing qualities of this magical resort. We chose the daily massage package and highly recommend it! You can choose where you’d like to enjoy your massage ~inside your air conditioned room, outside by your plunge pool, on the grounds listening to the waves. Wherever you go, you’ll feel like you’re in heaven!! The “special” extras, luxuries and treatments you’re usually charged extra to enjoy at other resorts are all included in your stay at The Remote Resort. To say we felt like royalty for the entire week here would be a gross understatement! Absolutely nothing was too much trouble for the beautiful staff. One of the many examples of this was when I left my medication at home. I mentioned this in conversation to the driver collecting us from the Taveuni airport and he took us up to the local doctor to get me a prescription. He then arranged for the script to be collected by another staff member from Labasa ~over 2 hours away! I was just blown away and so relieved when my medication was delivered to my room very next day, no doubt saving our whole holiday!! Our room was perfectly equipped with everything you could possibly need for a perfect, private getaway. We stayed in the Royal Retreat and loved that it was away from the main building. Our private plunge pool was great for a quick dip, especially after snorkelling. Or you could skip the pool in favour of your private, outdoor, hot shower if you’d like to wash your hair! The indoor bathroom was even nicer again, with a great view of the water and double sinks to save waiting for your partner! There are plenty of activities and trips to choose from each day or you can spend your days in secluded paradise, only seeing people when you explore the grounds, visit the main building for meals/activities or use your room’s mobile phone to call for your meals to be delivered! I couldn’t possibly leave a review without a special mention of the mouthwatering, delicious meals, most of which are grown on the plantation or caught in the surrounding waters. Every meal was easily comparable to the best restaurants in Australia. The flavours and freshness of these exquisite creations was one of the highlights of the whole trip! The best service I have experienced at a resort ever. You really feel as if your holiday dreams are as equally important to them as is to you. The staff are truly nice in their heart. We realised we were going to miss out on the rainbow reef trip due to dates we arrived/left and the manager Villisi when I asked her if there's anyway we could go she looked at week plan and pretty much instantly said on this day and time we're going to take you there, it was not an issue at all, it was like a genie granting your wish... I'm sure it would've been an organisational challenge but they were so happy to help and obliging making me feel as if it was no problem at all, thank you for this. There are so many nice little things the staff do for example after we did the night Snorkel tour they brought us a hot chocolate to drink as soon as we got out of the water. All the staff are so friendly and thoughtful. The staff are on top of everything, & smoothly/seamlessly, moving you between activities/ events that you don't have to worry about anything and can actually relax which is so nice and I can rarely do as an ocd micromanager. The transfers were all really smooth. The rooms were nice and house keeping did a great job. There are somethings in the room which I was pleasantly surprised how good and practical it is for example they had Panadol, savalon and dettol in the room for first aid. The food was great a mix of fiji and fiji Indian influences. The way they do dinner at night was a huge surprise, private tables around the resort by the fire, some of the locations included on the jetty which made you feel like you were on TV was a favourite part of the experience. They have a different cocktail of the day daily. Ive been snorkelling all around the great barrier reef so you can trust me when I say the have good house reef, nice and colourful healthy corals, best snorkelling at high tide. Safe there are no strong currents. Villisi, the manager, said her favourite Snorkel was the Kioa Island Snorkel Tour & it turned out to be my favourite Snorkel of the trip. Would recommend. For Australians great to visit during our winter June/ July as the temperature so pleasant there

There are no perfect words I can use to describe this incredible place. It is a small, secluded boutique resort and is very special. Remote Resort’s house reef is outstanding, as is their staff, their food and their service. I love coming here where each unit has privacy, quiet and a little dipping pool. It is heaven. I can sit quietly and read a book after a snorkel adventure or other outing. My husband and I asked for a special snorkel excursion on the morning of our departure and they made it happen just like that! This was our third trip to Remote Resort. Each time they add something new. This year, they set up a full PADI dive operation and have added a massage and a spa pavilion. Zoe, Helen and Kim are all Dive Masters and experts on the Rainbow Reef, the Somosomo Strait and surrounding areas. They will take excellent care of you and show you the most amazing dive sites, private beaches, hidden bays and coves. Just Wow! The 8 villas are beautiful and well maintained. The staff and owners take great pride in what they have created here. All supplies are brought in by boat as there is no complete road into this resort. I am continually amazed at the food selection and delicious meal options. Every meal is beautifully plated and delicious. Each night, the resort sets up private dining tables for guests. It is obvious to me that the staff makes every effort to make your stay perfect for you. Just tell them if you are celebrating a special occasion or would like something special. The owner and management are on property and remain fully at your service. I am well traveled. I have experience snorkeling/diving in many countries. I am knowledgeable on the various resort choices in Fiji. I have stayed at Namale, Matamanoa, Qamea, Taveuni Island Resort and spa and seen Matangi. Hands down I would choose Remote Resort over and over again. I have not seen a house reef anywhere in the world like the house reef in front of Remote Resort. It is pristine and healthy. If you are looking for excellent food, service and personal experiences Remote Resort is perfect for you. If you are seeking pristine diving and snorkeling Remote Resort is for you. This is a very secluded, off the beaten path, truly amazing experience. It is a perfect honeymoon and anniversary spot and an excellent place to celebrate a special occasion. We feel like family when we come home to Remote Resort in Fiji.
