My partner and I stopped here for two nights as part of a long weekend and in many ways wished we hadn't. While there were some good aspects to the stay, there were many that weren't. At check-in, the reception staff were very friendly (and friendly throughout), making us feel welcome and talking us through where everything was / what to do if we needed any assistance. Our room (while very spacious), had a bed that wouldn't be out of place in a prisoner-of-war camp. Other people have added detailed reviews of the beds here, but in short, its very hard and you can feel the springs throughout. This clearly is a known issue as when it was raised with the reception staff on check-out they simply stated 'ah', and then carried on with everything else. Attempting to redeem the room was a bathroom that had a large freestanding bath, and Sky TV in the bedroom (with a good selection of channels). Unfortunately there is very little in the way of soundproofing and so when other guests had finished their celebrations late in the evening we were woken up a few times by people in the corridoor (it happens at most hotels, so this is just something to be aware of). Moving to the bar, that in itself was also a mixed experience. Sitting in the main area on the first night gave us prompt service from two friendly members of staff, before being taken for food (more on that later). Trying this on the second night (this time sat closer to the malt room/bar) had us waiting for 15 minutes as staff walked by, before having to find a member of staff to serve us (as we wanted something to drink from there). After being told on the first day that there are always two members of staff who are familiar with the whiskys on offer / can provide guidance, being told that none of the bar staff that evening were familiar with the drinks and then being handed the list of what was available / being told 'here you go, pick something from this' wasn't impressive. Worse, after choosing three from the list and subsequently being told they didn't have them / come look for yourself and choose something from the shelf, it seemed more of a gimmic than something to be proud of. The restaurant was well-decorated and had friendly staff (both evenings), however while the staff were attentive / did ask multiple times how everything was, having two different waiters pour wine and manage to spill it down the side of the glass (subsequently staining the tablecloth) isn't something you would expect for a hotel like this. No comment was made about it either time (which also seemed odd given it was very visible), and if they read this review at some point, put a napkin (or similar) on the underside of the neck of the bottle as you pour (it ain't difficult). The food was also a mix sadly. The smoked salmon / prawn cocktail / scallops were all great / tasted delicious, while two identical steaks came out with one of them not being rested (with blood over the plate) while the other was well-done in places
