Having travelled a long way for a friend’s wedding with a heavy suitcase, I appreciated that the hotel was conveniently located near the railway station. It was also only a short walk to the town centre, shops, and local park. Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay. My room was clean and comfortable; the shower and room temperature controls were easy to adjust; and tea and coffee supplies were well stocked. It was lovely and quiet for a good night’s sleep, despite being on a main road. Staff were friendly and helpful. There is always room for improvement…For a booking made months in advance, this was quite an expensive stay at over £100.00 per night. Perhaps Premier Inn could provide a discounted rate on future stays or similar offers to encourage repeat custom. The main issue with this branch, however, was the dysfunctional self-check-in system. The self-service check-in seems like a great idea in theory, but was completely impractical in reality. When I checked in, both self-service machines were out of order, resulting in a very long queue at the front desk, only staffed by one person. Not only did this create unnecessary pressure for the staff member in question, but customers were growing irritated at the slow wait, while other members of the team wasted time trying to fix the machines instead of registering new arrivals. This was a really inefficient system which depersonalises the ‘hotel experience’. While I appreciate this is probably a cost-cutting measure designed to streamline the check-in process, it simply doesn’t work. Please consider that many customers would prefer to talk to a real person, who should provide information about safety procedures in the hotel, whereas the machine does not offer this. There are also a number of customers with accessibility requirements (e.g. English as a second language), who might need in-person assistance. Overall, a nice branch that I would be happy to stay at in future.
