The Bitterne Park

We stayed here through wowcher, thinking it would be a great deal for a night away. The hotel is very run down and it has little staff. Our room was dirty, and smelt like burning grease. The staff that were available did help fix our broken door and clean the parts that we complained were dirty so this was thanked. However the stay was still unpleasant, the air in the room felt unclean and made us cough the whole night and wake up with sore throats. I would not recommend this hotel and think it needs a complete refirb before letting people stay in it.

My advice, AVOID AT ALL COSTS. The images available are not representative of this hell hole whatsoever. The area is shady at best, there is no reception or assistance on stand by. Situated directly above an African cocktail bar/restaurant. The smell of burnt fat during the day is rank, this smell only gets worse as the evening progresses. The music runs very loud until midnight at least. In all honesty I don't know how they're Allowed to call themselves a hotel. It's simply disgusting. When we woke in the morning, we initially felt I'll with sore throats and coughing up flem like we'd smashed 100 fags the night before, the fumes were that bad. We tried to contact the reception regularly without any success, we were therefore not able to discuss any of the issues. We left after the first night and booked in elsewhere to (as it turns out) a much cheaper hotel (The Star) the difference was night and day.

Avoid . One of the worst places we have ever stayed. Went on a wowcher deal! Wowcher really need to remove this place from their stays. We arrived, there is not a reception so you can check in. There was a number to call and a woman answered and said i am f...ing stuck in traffic your key is in an evelope behind the desk ..Its above a cocktail bar/ bistro, the smell of food is over powering . Music thumping from downstairs . Room was basic , clean but could be better and the shower was pretty good . Would never ever return its just not a place you can call a hotel . The garden loos likes a dump site it is just awful . Nobody around to get assistance.. grubby carpets in hallways and up the stairs to the rooms . So disappointed 😞..

The bedroom was not nice and the pub was not nice at all. The pub very dull and not nice.

No one in the front desk all the time, no service at all. Actually it’s a bar with 3-4 guest rooms. Even we ask for help to call a taxi, the guy at the front desk ( we only see him at the check in time) didn’t show up any more even we check out.

Not a good experience. Lock to room door hanging out of door and not secure. Simple yale lock that can easily be compromised with knife or credit card. Hand basin not plumbed in - as soon as I turned on the tap water came straight out the vack of the sink all over the floor. I didn't dare try the shower.

The hotel is quiet and in a quiet neighbourhood, a quick drive or ride share from the main attractions downtown. The pub downstairs is pretty interesting, lots of African food. The room we had was good sized - be warned there is no lift though, only stairs. Very good stay overall.

Nice location for a one night day easy access to city centre bus stop a few yards from Hotel
