Excellent staff thanks for a wonderful weekend

The view of the hotel was very nice and pleasant staff are very friendly and the breakfast was included and it was very tasty,, peaceful environment,near the sea side just so beautiful

Everything was first class we had a great time can't wait for the next time.

We have stayed at this hotel several times and just love it. We always choose a room with a view and ask for one overlooking the Herd Groyne. The others look up river. This is the first time we have been given a room on the ground floor and the view wasn't nearly as good. Also, there was a path just outside the room so people were walking past during the day so the privacy wasn't as good. Make sure you ask for a first floor room. The DFDS ferry comes in at 9am every day and leaves at 5pm. It is a big ferry and we never tire of watching it, either from our room, or by taking the short walk down to the Groyne to watch it. If you are lucky to be there when a cruise ship comes in it is an amazing sight, they are huge. It is only a short walk to the beach. We never fail to be amazed at how good the staff are. On this occasion there was a bus group booked in which affected our stay. They took priority and on one morning a table was set up in the reception area for our breakfast. This obviously wasn't ideal but the staff made sure we got into the restaurant for the rest of our stay. We just had to be there for 7.30am and had to have our evening meal at 5.30pm which was a bit early. Having said that, the breakfasts are very good indeed with a wide choice of things to eat, both hot and cold. It is in a conservatory with views to the river. I'd particularly like to mention Ally, one of the members of staff in the restaurant. She recognises us when we go and is particularly helpful and friendly. We are sorry that we won't see her again as she retires later in the year, but thank you Ally for your wonderful help and kindness. I'd thoroughly recommend this hotel, the location and staff are superb. When considering prices do take into account the wonderful breakfast.

We have stayed at this hotel before as i have relatives in South shields . Although now a little dated the service is very good staff very attentive although not over the top and the food is also good . So all in all a lovely hotel with brilliant views also good value for money

Joined family who were visiting for dinner, absolutely abysmal! My partner ordered black pudding to start and sea bass as a main, neither available so had to reorder, pate, came with half a slice of toast! Must be a shortage. Bowl of pasta came piled high but ruled as completely tasteless despite adding salt and pepper, not eaten. Tuna steak was way overdone chef has a heavy hand for such a delicate fish. Curry also ruled as tasteless. No one in a mood for dessert but my friend ordered a cheesecake as it looked nice. Advised it was inedible tasted like curdled cottage cheese. All in all a complete disaster and waste of money! Would I return? Resounding no!

Hotel very nice room clean and comfortable, Stephen ans Ali were very helpful and service at meal times was very good. All the staff were helpful and gave us good advice for places to visit, our friend recommended the hotel to us and we will be doing the same to our friends. We give it a 5 Stars rating.

Rooms were OK. Lunch for 8 of us prebooked for several weeks was terrible cutlery throuwn on to the table food was returned as being unacceptable/waitresses had little/no interest in us/staff very bad.and seemed unhappy. Breakfast not good.

Booked the penthouse suite for my Mum which was lovely, nice decor, clean and stunning views from the balcony, luckily had nice weather to enjoy it, I stayed in a standard double with a view. Disappointed that there were no extras or better quality biscuits left in my Mums room which had cost over twice the money. There was a coach party and when we returned in the evening wanting to sit in the bar lounge area for coffees there was entertainment going on which was a dreadful racket and no room so we went to her suite instead for a coffee with the Nescafé sachets left in room (not the best) and had to squeeze past people to get to the lift. Breakfast was mediocre again with cheap coffee. Probably the people going on a cheap coach holiday for 5 days would find this hotel & food fair value but paying full price £230 for the suite & £106 for the double I was a little disappointed, have previously booked a night at Lumley castle & at Bowburn Hall hotel both slightly cheaper than this stay & far superior
