São Martinho: i migliori hotel a 5 stelle

We had a great time during our 5 night stay at the Vila Gale Sintra. I’ll start with the pros of the resort. The property itself is beautiful. The pools, the scenery around the hotel are amazing. The family room layout was great for us. It was essentially what appeared to be what used to be two rooms combined into one. The large balcony was great for sitting out at night. The sunset was spectacular from our room. The kids activities were great as my kids got to enjoy the carousel, playground and trampoline park. Be aware though that they only open these at certain times throughout the day. The breakfast was great and had a ton of selections. There were a few cons, the first was the buffet dinner. It was quite expensive at 29 euros per person and the options werent great. They only really had one meat and one fish that they were cooking and there was a line to wait in if you wanted it. We only ate dinner there the first night. The room was partially refurbished. The carpet looked older and the sliding door within the room kept coming off the tracks. And the bathroom was a little odd in that the vanity was open to the rest of the room. So if someone needed to use the lights for it they would light potentially wake up the person in the room if they were sleeping. Then the WiFi, while it worked well for the most part, kept having to reconnect to the network. This happened on both my phone and iPad several times each day while I was there. The location of the hotel has its pluses and minuses. It is a quiet resort away from the city of Sintra. And it’s also located in a place that makes it easy to get to the beach and Colares. But there isn’t anything else right around the hotel so you need to rent a car or take an Uber to get around. We took and Uber and it did work pretty well. Nothing is within walking distance and the nearest bus stop is a 20-30 minute walk away.

This is such a beautifully restored hotel. I wanted to stay in Sintra and decided on this hotel after reading reviews as I wanted to stay in a smaller, authentic hotel. You can't get more authentic than staying in a hotel that was established in 1764 - wow! We were greeted by the gracious Amanda who carried our luggage to our room. We had a corner room that had beautiful views over Sintra and the forest. The entire hotel was cozy and comfortable. We enjoyed tapas and wine at their street side Bistro the first night upon arriving and then had the yummy included breakfast for two mornings. Pictures attached!

We stayed for 3 nights in this hotel. It is well located in Sintra and presents very nicely (modern lobby decor, good views, large rooms), however we found the service at this hotel inadequate in the following respects: 1. Parking. We came to Sintra in a hire car. I chose this hotel because the booking.com website said that private parking was possible on site at a cost that we were willing to pay. I emailed the hotel before our arrival to arrange for parking but they never replied to my email. When we arrived there was no parking anywhere near the hotel so we parked a long distance away. When we reached the hotel I asked about on site parking and was told that none was available due to a private event being held at the hotel which was scheduled to finish by 8pm that evening. The woman at reception was very haughty and unhelpful, when I asked whether we could get a parking spot after 8pm she just dismissed my request. We ended up leaving our hire car parked a fair way away which was OK for us as we are used to hiking long distances uphill but if you have any mobility issues or are with young children this situation would be a nightmare. 2. On our third day our bath towels were not changed until I specifically asked at reception at about 5pm. Apparently they had had a problem in the laundry. When bath towels were finally delivered they were damp. 3. The toilet in our room took an unusually long time to refill after flushing. 4. The holders for the bath wash, shampoo and conditioner in the shower were very flimsy, one of them fell off as soon as I applied for some soap. If I were to revisit Sintra I would look for somewhere else to stay.

L’hotel gode di un’ottima posizione per visitare la città. Siamo rimasti a Sintra per 2 notti e mai scelta e’ stata più giusta perche quando la città si svuota di turisti e’ ( se possibile) ancora più bella!- il sintra boutique hotel ha camere ampie e spaziose - un bagno con bidet 😉 e letti super comodi - ( consiglio però un phon di migliore fattura nei bagni!) il parcheggio è a pagamento e con un servizio di valet che consiglio vivamente perché guidare in questa piccola città e’ abbastanza difficile 😝 - la colazione e’ nella media per un boutique hotel. Se devo trovare un piccolo difetto … la moquette… che ahimè ormai non si trova più negli hotel per innumerevoli ragioni! Il personale è stato gentilissimo anche nell’offrirci consigli sui ristoranti!

Sintra itself is an amazing place to visit. And this guest house will long be remembered, starting with booking. We arrived, jet-lagged in a car arranged by Karen -- the owner. (Do get an introduction to Vera who runs the car service with her family.). The guest houses is clean, tastefully decorated and comfortable in every way -- from the bed to the pillows to the towels and the toiletries. It is close to the center of town, but on a quiet street that feels private. It was easy to get to palaces and restaurants -- or get a car from Vera! Breakfast was simple but hearty and delicious -- all that we wanted. The only room available when we booked was the Family Room, but we were charged a lower rate for only 2 of us. While it didn't have the large windows and balcony of other rooms -- it did have sky lights which brightened a spacious, very comfortable room. The heart of this guest house is Karen. She is gracious, she's efficient, she cares about her guests, and she's full of stories and ideas for your stay. She explained piri piri sauce, told us where to get Travesseiro and her opinion on palaces to visit, answered questions via email promptly as we planned our visit. Listen to her email advice about arrival (Being in a Heritage area has its drawbacks. I recommend not having a car there.). When I overflowed the coffee maker (Oops) she calmly and immediately got it cleaned up (and the bed made while they were at it). I could go on and on. Stay here. You'll understand.

Più come un luogo di vacanza di fine settimana, sedersi sulla piazza per la colazione, davanti a montagne cosi'continue, che possono andare lontano dai principali palazzi e giardini di Cintra.La colazione è ricca, soprattutto il pane è ancora caldo, il sapore è molto buono, si dice che sia ordinato dalla cantina del paese. Dieci minuti a piedi dal centro, il ristorante raccomandato è fantastico.C'è un parcheggio gratuito.La città portoghese sembra non essere facile guidare in città. Una volta per un po', la collina si scende e la auto può parcheggiare in hotel o Uber per attrazioni e ristoranti. Il servizio dell'hotel è anche paziente, fornendo l'aiuto che ti serve.Se l'estate puoi ancora nuotare in bella zona estiva.

Very difficult to find and access by foot was impossible... Stairs to get to the nearest street were closed. They do not have breakfast nor they offer you an alternative. They said that they had no space to accommodate us for breakfast. The room is spacious but very noisy.. You can hear people walking in the nextdoor room. There is no room service. There is no phone connection with the main desk so you can not ask for any thing or request any information unless you go out the building and enter the main house. The bathroom only has soap, shampoo, and towels. No shower cap or any other amenities. We were very disappointed, specially when arriving tired and not being so young.. Does not comply with what they advertise.
