We stayed for 3 nights in this hotel. It is well located in Sintra and presents very nicely (modern lobby decor, good views, large rooms), however we found the service at this hotel inadequate in the following respects: 1. Parking. We came to Sintra in a hire car. I chose this hotel because the booking.com website said that private parking was possible on site at a cost that we were willing to pay. I emailed the hotel before our arrival to arrange for parking but they never replied to my email. When we arrived there was no parking anywhere near the hotel so we parked a long distance away. When we reached the hotel I asked about on site parking and was told that none was available due to a private event being held at the hotel which was scheduled to finish by 8pm that evening. The woman at reception was very haughty and unhelpful, when I asked whether we could get a parking spot after 8pm she just dismissed my request. We ended up leaving our hire car parked a fair way away which was OK for us as we are used to hiking long distances uphill but if you have any mobility issues or are with young children this situation would be a nightmare. 2. On our third day our bath towels were not changed until I specifically asked at reception at about 5pm. Apparently they had had a problem in the laundry. When bath towels were finally delivered they were damp. 3. The toilet in our room took an unusually long time to refill after flushing. 4. The holders for the bath wash, shampoo and conditioner in the shower were very flimsy, one of them fell off as soon as I applied for some soap. If I were to revisit Sintra I would look for somewhere else to stay.

Questa è una recensione molto miscela. L'hotel è bella in generale e spaziato nella storia. Le aree pubbliche sono molto belle e ci sono molti angoli interessanti per rilassarsi. Il colazione è eccellente e il personale molto piacevole. Tuttavia, abbiamo prenotato una camera superiore che costa quasi 250 euro per notte, e non abbiamo avuto un'esperienza superiore. La terrazza del balcone era bella, vista sulla foresta, ma nonostante la presenza di spazio, c’erano solo due sedie in alto, una tavola e un salone solare lo avrebbero reso molto meglio e più confortevole. La stanza stessa era piccola e buia, e il bagno era in grande bisogno di rinnovazione. C’era un grande crack nella piscina e neri segni nel bagno, e tutto era solo molto stanco. Per questo non si sentiva molto pulito. I letti erano inconfortabili con mattoni molto carini, quindi non dormivamo bene. Ci aspettavamo molto di più da un soggiorno così costoso e dall'etichetta ”camera superiore”. Non era un'esperienza di cinque stelle.

We have stayed there for a few days at the beginning of July as part of our annual main holidays. Advantages: * Breathtakingly beautiful place in the Portugese mountains. I could lay staring at the view from our room whole day. You can see castle and 2 palaces directly from the terrace. * The gardens are really nice, well groomed and give a very nice atmosphere for the whole stay. A lot of blooming flowers, well groomed grass - very Instagram friendly. * Place is very peaceful - a bit outside of the town, so it's very quiet, also during the night. You can also hear a lot of birds, which gives a very serene experience. * Swimming pool is placed on a terrace with amazing view, surrounded by the beautiful greenery. I enjoyed it very much, especially as it helped to cool down in a heatwave. * Very spacious room (superiour suite with kitchenette), well equipped, very clean, decorated nicely. There were also furniture on the terrace (table & chairs, as well as sun loungers). Really nice for eating meals outside or reading a book. * Access to the common kitchen with all the amenities, possibility to use washing machine (additional pay), water fountaine available all the time (no need to bring water from the shop). There's also small library with books, which can come in handy. * In general all the staff was very nice and courteous. They also give good tips as to where eat or what to visit nearby. * Possibility of booking a stay online. * Reasonable pricing Issues: * Lack of air-conditioning - which was a big flaw for our stay. We were there during a heat wave and sleeping through the night was simply impossible. It was very disapponting as WE ASKED BEFORE BOOKING the room and we were wrote that there is air-co in the ”superior suite”, which we booked exactly for that reason. When we came, it turned out it's only a device that is blowing air with water. It wasn't cooling the room. Also in 30 degrees, putting piece of ice inside does nothing. Maybe except for making room extremely humid. And device was paired with dehumidifier, which actually heats up the air when used. So I am still lost on how it was supposed to help. * Customer service - all the people were very kind and curteous, spoke great English, however I did not feel understood when we raised a complaint about lack of air conditioning. There was not much initiative to improve the situation (we only received additional fan, which also did not improve situation very much). They did not offer actual air-co device, help with finding another stay, not even a discount or free breakfast. Although indeed, we heard some apologies. Also the owner of the place, who could be seen in the property from time to time, did not make very welcoming impression. She also did not decide to talk to us after we raised a complaint, which I am pretty sure she knew about. *Breakfast - it was served in a very nice way, but the portions are very small (e.g. under postion ”cheese” you receive 2 small slices). We had a great time during our 5 night stay at the Vila Gale Sintra. I’ll start with the pros of the resort. The property itself is beautiful. The pools, the scenery around the hotel are amazing. The family room layout was great for us. It was essentially what appeared to be what used to be two rooms combined into one. The large balcony was great for sitting out at night. The sunset was spectacular from our room. The kids activities were great as my kids got to enjoy the carousel, playground and trampoline park. Be aware though that they only open these at certain times throughout the day. The breakfast was great and had a ton of selections. There were a few cons, the first was the buffet dinner. It was quite expensive at 29 euros per person and the options werent great. They only really had one meat and one fish that they were cooking and there was a line to wait in if you wanted it. We only ate dinner there the first night. The room was partially refurbished. The carpet looked older and the sliding door within the room kept coming off the tracks. And the bathroom was a little odd in that the vanity was open to the rest of the room. So if someone needed to use the lights for it they would light potentially wake up the person in the room if they were sleeping. Then the WiFi, while it worked well for the most part, kept having to reconnect to the network. This happened on both my phone and iPad several times each day while I was there. The location of the hotel has its pluses and minuses. It is a quiet resort away from the city of Sintra. And it’s also located in a place that makes it easy to get to the beach and Colares. But there isn’t anything else right around the hotel so you need to rent a car or take an Uber to get around. We took and Uber and it did work pretty well. Nothing is within walking distance and the nearest bus stop is a 20-30 minute walk away.

This is a perfect little spot for being a few blocks to the center of Sintra, yet a little off as to not get all the noise. The hostess here, Dulce, is a very kind, caring woman. My phone fell into the sink and stopped working. I travel alone and had no information to my next place. Dulce took the time to sit with me, let me use her personal phone and assured me that everything would be okay. She did absolutely everything she could for me. This is the place you want to stay if you are traveling alone and need assistance within daytime hours. Not sure about night but I am confident they would help within their capability. Please note, the houses are very old and you can hear the people above you. There was an elephant staying above me so, PLEASE be aware of the people below when you walk across the room. Or ask for a top floor ~ all stairs. I also wish there was a small fridge in the room. Overall, an excellent place to stay with caring people there to welcome you and bid you farewell. I would highly recommend staying here if not having a fridge isn't an issue.
