Hotel carino in centro a San José, camera ampia e pulita, terrazzo che puzzava molto di fumo. L’hotel da un lato affaccia su una via pedonale dove sconsiglio di andare dopo che tramonta il sole perché un po’ pericolosa; noi per due sere di fila abbiamo provato a mettere fuori un piede e subito siamo avvicinati da gente poco raccomandabile. Molto comodo il ristorante all’interno dell’hotel.

Dear Valued Guests, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to share my recent experience at Hotel Cultura Plaza in San Jose, Costa Rica, and to caution those considering a reservation at this establishment. During my stay at the hotel, I encountered a significant issue with the room I was assigned. Unfortunately, some of the rooms at this hotel do not have windows and resemble prison cells rather than comfortable accommodations. Understandably, I refused to accept such a room and immediately contacted Booking.com to seek a resolution. To my disappointment, the hotel displayed a lack of cooperation, even after three hours of mediation with Booking.com. Despite our best efforts, the hotel refused to address the issue adequately, leading to the cancellation of my reservation. Furthermore, the hotel has also declined to refund the payment I made for the booking. Throughout this process, their responses were consistently rude and unhelpful, leaving me frustrated and dissatisfied. In addition to the room issue, I feel it is important to mention that the dining room for breakfast at Hotel Cultura Plaza is extremely small, akin to a small bar with only about four tables. This limited space may make it challenging to find a seat during busy periods, and it can detract from the overall dining experience. Given my disappointing experience and the hotel's uncooperative attitude, I want to urge prospective customers to exercise caution when considering a reservation at Hotel Cultura Plaza. Please be aware of the lack of windows in some rooms, the prison cell-like appearance, and the limited dining space for breakfast. It is my hope that by sharing this message, I can help others make informed decisions and avoid potential frustrations. As consumers, we should be able to expect a certain level of quality and service when choosing accommodations, and unfortunately, Hotel Cultura Plaza fell short of these expectations. Non potevamo avere un miglior benvenuto e addio a Costa Rica. Passiamo le prime e le ultime notti di un viaggio in famiglia (due adulti e due adolescenti) di poco più di una settimana per il paese. Come atterriamo e decolliamo a San José, cercavamo un buon hotel, confortevole e tranquillo per l'arrivo e prenotamo Rincon del Valle. L'esperienza è stata così buona che abbiamo deciso di sistemarci di nuovo prima di partire, così la pena la portiamo meglio. Abbiamo fatto il piu' a posto due volte: personale super amabile ed efficiente, strutture costanti migliorate, letti comodi e colazione eccellente (la prima colazione in Costa Rica, tipica del paese, non poteva essere più appropriato). E abbiamo fatto un po' di bicicletta e cintura per combattere jet lag e tante ore di volo. La posizione ideale, tranquilla, ben comunicata, con offerta gastronomica vicino, lo stadio nazionale ... Il viaggio ci prendiamo abbastanza per libero e in hotel ci hanno consigliato e aiutato a scoprire San José e i suoi suggerimenti su diversi destinazioni e attività Erano top. Ci piaceva tutto il viaggio, ma la prima impressione in un paese sconosciuto è importante, e lì ci hanno già vinto, abbiamo cominciato a capire che significa PURE VITA. Torneremo in Costa Rica o in America centrale, e sicuramente dormiremo e colazione di nuovo a Rincon del Valle. Grazie per tutto. Pure vita.

On ne s'attendait pas au meilleur hôtel de notre voyage, et ce fut le cas. Vu le prix, il ne faut pas s'attendre à plus. Les chambres sont spartiates, sans clim voir sans fenêtre (court séjour seulement vraiment!). El Descanso est plutôt bien situé, près de la plupart des intérêts touristiques de San José. La literie est plutôt agréable. L'accueil est efficace et agréable.

I spent three nights at the Costa Rica Tennis Club Hotel and hated to leave. Based on some of the reviews, I was hesitant to book but because it has a 25m pool I decided to give it a chance, and booked for one night. The staff was friendly, the room was updated, and clean, and the sports facilities were fantastic so I booked for two more nights. I am a swimmer and loved having an 8 lane competition pool available for daily training. I also used the gym which had a great variety of machines and weights. There were courts for every type of racquet sport, a basketball court, pong ponf, a bowling alley, a second pool, steam room and sauna, massage therapists, a pro shop; and more! There also is a nice sports bar where the complimentary breakfast is served. If b be you take it out in the patio you can watch folks running. Online skating,cycling and horseback riding. To top it off, the price was under $60 per night. I would think a day pass to a club like this would be around $30+ so this is a great deal. If/when I return to San Jose I definitely will plan on seating here.

I brought my family to the Fluer di Lys some 18 years after my first visit to San Jose. Then, I was traveling solo and had not a care for travel plans or schedules. It was a wonderful journey that changed my life. This trip would be different. Traveling as s family, I wanted to expose my teenage sons and wife to the beauty of Costa Rica but understood that there would need to be some planning to get experience I happened upon two decades before. Andres, at the Fluer di Lys was a great help with assisting me arrange everything from airport pick up to destination options while in country. We traveled back and forth across the country, using the hotel as our central hub and regrouping point. The hotel serves a daily Costa Rican breakfast (free) and is located close to good restaurants, museums and parks. All within a few minutes walk. Lavanka, the afternoon front desk clerk, was really helpful when we we’re choosing places to eat. As we walked around the area we would note the eateries and ask her about them. She gave honest opinions, steering us away from a couple of places and towards others. As for family sit down dining, expect to pay around 20-25 dollars per plate. There are cheaper options too. They’re usually walk up counters or small bodega style store fronts that offers a quick meal for about half the sit down restaurant. Keep in mind, there is a large tax added to meals (23%) and a fixed gratuity (10%). I’d also recommend exchanging currency in the airport. The hotel does have some cash and offers a fair exchange but for larger amounts (100US or more) they might not have it. Also, taxis are cash only. Have Colonies ready so you can discuss and pay for the trip upfront. The only low I’d say is the hotel had a wonderful restaurant and separate bar the first time I was there. This time they were closed for remodeling but should be open by fall of ‘23. I hope this review helps you make your decision on where to stay while in San Jose. Enjoy your trip!
