Hotel San Luis Place by Dorado

This is quite possibly the worst hotel booking decision I ever made. First of all, the hotel does not have a "beach" - it's a 6 feet strand of dirty sand which nobody would consider a beach since boats and water scooters are parked on it and by the water just in front of the beach. The "beach access" is by the sister Reina del Mar by Dorado - a sister hotel at a 10 minutes walk. You cannot even walk to it through the beach, as the access is interrupted, you'll have to take the main road which is ok a sunny day, but it becomes a river on any rainy day. The rooms are dirty. Just after I got in, I found several insect carcasses, that had been killed by previous guests god knows how long before. The window roller has several dark stains - maybe mold, maybe something else. The window roller and the curtains also hide a lot of dirt in between the window itself and the curtains. I did not investigate what this dirt is or how it got there. Several light fixtures in the room did not work (or perhaps, did not have any switch attached to them - either way they are useless). Unfortunately, two extremely bright lights on my room's patio worked very well, making it impossible to sleep at night without rolling down completely the window roller (so much for "ocean view"). I asked the staff to please turn them off, and their solution was to tape something on top of one of the two lights. Completely useless. I suspect that all the outdoor patio lights connect to the same light switch, so either you get lucky and get a room with broken patio lights, or you'll have to turn down the window roller to get any sleep. Rooms are "cleaned" everyday. I suspect this cleaning means towel change, making the bed, and mopping the floor. Unfortunately the maid keeps the door wide open while cleaning, with the unfortunate consequence that tons of insects and other animals (lizards, spiders) have the chance to enter the cooler room. 2 beach towels were provided at the beginning of my stay, but 2 days in the maid didn't replace one, and 2 more days in the maid didn't replace the second one, so I ended up with no available beach towels on my last day. Breakfast is decent. A small fruit place, a small combo of bread and jam and your choice of eggs. Coffee, juice and some snacks are available. It is NOT buffet breakfast. The only bright spot of my stay was the front desk agent, Natalia. She checked me in, checked me out and even helped me reserve the taxi to the airport the day before I left. She deserves to be working at a better hotel.

I went with my husband and son. The design of the San Luis hotel is a whole lot beautiful than many hotels on the island. Although, the rooms are nice and clean but nothing special. We stayed for four days and there was no room service. The restaurant had all kinds of food but the food in the San Luis Hotel is a little better than in the other hotels. The special dishes were very expensive. The juices and lemonades weren’t made with purified water and my husband had a terrible stomachache. The beach is beautiful, the only thing you have to keep in mind isn’t to go when the island is in dead seaweed season because the smell is terrible.

Es un hotel pequeño pero muy tranquilo lejos del bullicio y las multitudes, excelente atención, el desayuno muy bueno y variado, las habitaciones cómodas lindas, la playa privada es muy pequeña y las barcas que están al frente no dan ganas de meterse al mar. En general muy bueno.

Había leído muchas opiniones negativas previas a mi visita y no tenía muchas expectativas con respecto al hotel. Sin embargo, fue mucho mejor de lo que esperaba, la habitaciones son bonitas, la cama es muy cómoda y la limpieza excelente. Mi habitación daba hacia la carretera por lo que pensé que no iba a poder dormir por el constante ruido de carros pero no fue así, realmente dormí muy bien y aunque pasan carros y motos no es de forma constante como para alterar al descanso, de igual forma, la ducha de mi habitación tenía el desnivel mal por lo que el agua inundaba la ducha, sin embargo, avisamos amablemente a la señora de limpieza quien fue muy gentil y dejó la ducha impecable durante los días que estuvimos allí. Por otro lado, la primera recepcionista que nos recibió era algo tosca, sin embargo, los días siguientes estuvo un señor de lo mas amable. En mi caso fuimos con el desayuno incluido y es delicioso, te dan diferentes opciones para elegir, además que puedes tomar las bebidas calientes que desees. Nosotros siempre bajamos a desayunar temprano así no tuvimos ningún inconveniente y nuestro desayuno estaba listo rápidamente. Por otro lado la ubicación es algo retirada del centro por lo que para tomar las excursiones tuvimos que tomar taxi o bus, sin embargo, queda muy cerca de las playas de San Luis y Rocky Cay (5 minutos caminando) que en mi opinión son mucho mejores que las del centro, sin demasiada gente y mas agradables para descansar, así que por playa no hay que preocuparse. Otro aspecto muy bueno del hotel es que puedes usar las instalaciones de los demás hoteles de la cadena el dorado, nosotros fuimos al hotel Reina del Mar que queda casi en Rocky Cay y allí usamos las sillas y parasoles sin problema, también tomamos bebidas y cocteles en el bar. Igualmente, fuimos al hotel arena blanca que queda en el centro y tiene una piscina con fondo de arena preciosa, con cascadas y chorros ideales para descansar después de los tours. En mi opinión, el hotel es bueno para descansar después de un día de actividades y ofrece lo necesario para ello.
