We had a fine check-in, no problem there, though nothing special. And were very happy with the clean room, and the nice style of the place. Very pretty and had character. But when we asked for an extra blanket (there was only 1 thin blanket on each bed) the manager seemed utterly taken aback and confused, and said, “Isn’t there a heater in your room?” I explained that we prefer to sleep without the heater running on high (plus this one was a gas fireplace that also was quite bright). He didn’t have any extra blankets, but luckily we’d brought a sleeping bag just in case so we were fine. It was just a weird reaction on his part. I run a small guesthouse myself and as an owner you just normally try to give guests what they want, and lots of people like to have extra blankets. It’s a common thing. We found it weird but went to bed and slept fine. There were also various small issues in the room that warrant mention, given this weird refusal to improve. The hot water did not turn on in the bathroom sink. There were only 2 towels though we’d listed 3 of us coming. They asked us to wash our own dishes, which we found rather yucky — generally I prefer a staff person to wash dishes to a certain standard rather than eating off dishes washed by random guests. So all in all, I found the place unhelpful and unprofessional. It’s a pity because I liked the design very much, and it could just be great. But the hosts have a serious problem! After the blanket incident, the manager was consistently rude and unpleasant. Apparently in this place, you get in trouble for asking for anything. A pity because the hosts are what makes a place like this wonderful. Definitely won’t be back and do not recommend — hopefully the owners can find new managers!
