The reviews of the hotel stated that a refurbishment has been done but I’m not sure that the state of the hotel shows it has been completed.
First had to wait for 10 mins for someone to answer the door to let us in despite being told we could check in from 3pm and it was 3.40.
The room had brand new fitted and very nice furniture (bedside drawers, wardrobe, desk etc) but these were attached to a wall with huge gaps in the plaster, window that didn’t keep any noise out, blinds that didn’t keep the sun out and a bath room that had so much mildew on the door frame, plug hole and rusted shaver plug that I don’t think it has ever been sprayed with anything let alone refurbished.
The dining room was awful- lights hanging out, a constant beeping which is probably from the fact the smoke detector is hanging out the ceiling and a smell that is mixed between cabbage and fish.
The 2 members of staff we encountered were very polite and the breakfast we had was freshly cooked and tasty. The “selection of pastries and juices” is a bit of a stretch though (a jug of orange juice and pre packed chocolate brioche from Lidl does not constitute a selection).
The location was easy to find and plenty of parking out front. Not in the nicest part of Newport but very easy walk to town and local pub.
I think the hotel could be lovely but until the refurbishment is finished they either need to close or drastically reduce the prices.
