We went on a Roadtrip to visit a friend near Riebeeck Kasteel & decided we would do lunch at the Royal Hotel in Riebeeck Kasteel. What a beautiful hotel with a large veranda and stunning decor totally on point. We sat on the veranda & placed our orders. What an amasing venue and we where totally relaxed enjoying the world go by & being keen spectators. Our cuisine arrived & we were totally blown away by the presentation, excellent service and stunning taste of the the dishes we ordered. What an excellent way to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon with good friends & great food. If you're in this area & looking for a local gem, this is your place. Royal reception from the start at 12 january untill the end at the 18 february These 5 weeks have been outstanding in all that makes hollidays really great.The Kingsuite - the breakfast at the stoop - diner at the lower terras - the food and drinks - the treatment by the staff ROYAL

We went along for a drink and dinner, as we always do when staying in Riebeek Kasteel. How can you miss having a giant G&T sitting on the longest stoep south of the Limpopo? It is like stepping back one hundred years but with all modern conveniences. We had neglected to book (remember to book if you want to sit on the stoep!), but luckily someone cancelled and so we were able to take their table on the stoep. Drinks were fabulous, service was friendly and efficient, and the dinner was lovely, they really have improved the food quality over the years. The Royal Tomato salad might be the best thing we ate on the entire holiday this time - I will be trying to recreate that for some time.

A great place for a gin and tonic, very large selection of imported and local south african gins. Presented as a work of art with complementing fruit garnish. Sit on the stoop and watch the sun go down. They also have a great Indonesian restaurant and are right next to the best French bistro Au Bouchon Rouge

We really enjoyed our visit for lunch at the Royal Hotel. One could feel the old charm of the hotel, sitting on the stoep and dining area inside the bar. The food was great and Burton our waiter made our visit even more special by adding a special flair to the service he provided.

The building itself and setting was absolutely beautiful. Beds fab and amenities comfortable. However it had the feeling of the owner not being present, ever. Staff were sweet enough but more worried about socialising amongst themselves than the guests, booking for the tasting breakfast is meant to happen 48 hours (Yes, 48 hours!) before you want it, and on a Saturday night you’re plopped into the bar amongst loud opinionated people for supper - no choices offered. We ended up having supper sent to our room. Having said that the food was delicious but, come on, Saturday night eating in your room in that setting? Bones are good, needs someone who cares to take the staff in hand.

On a rainy cold windy day we decided not to camp on our way through the lovely town of Riebeek kasteel. This hotel was a real surprise and absolute gem. Warm and welcoming. Just a pity we could not enjoy a cocktail on the stunning veranda. Just to cold. Staff are friendly. Coffee is excellent, and rooms are well appointed and super clean. Breakfast is also great. I will definitely be back.

Enjoyed lunch on the "stoep" of the hotel. Service relaxed, menu interesting and food good. A nice place for a stopover lunch. Hotel has 3 restaurants , 2 of them have limited opening hours, the Royal Hotel restaurant serves 3 meals a day. Hotel was built in the 1860's and is one of the oldest in South Africa and worthy of a visit in it's own right.

One of my favorite places to stay and visit. A wide selection of gin which can be enjoyed on the famous steep or anywhere in the hotel grounds. I just love the prawn Tian but all the meals are great. The linen and comfort of the rooms superb. The staff are friendly. Cool off on a hot day by the pool or sit by the fire on a cold night or day. A must visit.
