Hotel Tigaiga

The room was wonderful, the beds were so comfortable and the location was spot on for everything we wanted to do. However, I toggled between giving it a 3 star or 4 star. First I will say almost all of the staff was AMAZING! Especially the ladies at reception. My only issue with staff, that threw off my experience was with one of the managers Yeray. On my birthday, we were heading out to dinner but i was alittle hungry so i decided to go to the buffet for something to hold me over before the resturant. There was some confusion on what was included with our package (mainly because of the language barrier as much workers only spoke spanish) but instead of confirming with the reception or pulling me to the side away from guests. He ran after me saying I needed to pay for my bill very loudly (which was 3 slices of fresh baguette and butter). It was so embarrassing, we travel alot and I've never experienced anything like this. At the end it was removed from our bill and the other manager apologized (kind of) the next day but it left a bad taste in my mouth, especially because I am a person of colour and there's already a negative connotation there. In addition, the manager who embarrassed me, didn't even make any effort to apologize to me. Now for the BUT. If you are a person of colour (Black), I would probably choose a different hotel. Nothing wrong with being the ONLY black people there but we got non stop stares. At first I was like ok, 99% of the guests were older Europeans, so maybe they just were intrigued. But it was VERY uncomfortable. It was like they've never seen a POC before. They would stare while me and my husband ate, walked around, went out to the balcony. And it wasn't just a glance, it was an over extended amount of time. All in all, it wasn't enjoyable to be around the other guests if that's the type of trip you're looking to have. The reason I did keep it at 4 stars was because everything was perfect otherwise. VERY clean, VERY organized, good tasting food (although redundant at times) and for what we came here for (a place to sleep and to be central to all of our attraction), it was a great choice for us.

We booked this hotel based on the reviews here on TA and on Holidaycheck, we had high expectations which were certainly more than fulfilled. The location for us was perfect, a smallish hotel in meticulously maintained grounds, above PDLC in a lovely quiet neighbourhood, yet just 15 (ish) minutes on foot to reach the restaurants in town. We particularly enjoyed the lovely pool and the fact that you could always get a sunbed, you even got your lounger mattress and towels brought to you, thank you. Staff are all most professional, helpful and polite throughout, having travelled worldwide and staying in many hotels from 2 to 5 stars, we feel they are right at the top of their game. The hotel is kept immaculately clean, inside and out and our Teide view room was comfortable with plenty of storage facilities for clothes and cases. We had asked for a kettle and minifridge before arrival and it was ready in the room and when I told the staff the mattress was a bit firm for me, a softer topper was immediately arranged and I slept very comfortably. The varied breakfast buffet is served from 7-10 am and seating is available inside and out, the only thing we would have preferred was a glass of fresh orange juice but it certainly did not lessen our lovely experience staying here. Thank you for having us, it was an absolute pleasure and should we happen to return to Tenerife, we'd definitely be staying at Hotel Tigaiga.
