Summary: a comfortable hotel that is starting to show its age and is yearning for an update. The good: Front desk staff: the female staff member who helped me check in and check out was fantastic. She was warm, friendly and spoke fluent English. I apologise that I didn’t make note of her name. Food: I had a great dinner at the bistro on the ground level. Simple food but cooked well. The ‘Ancho’ aka steak and chips was my highlight. Room: the ‘inglesa suite’ was large and comfortable. Two TVs, a bath and seperate shower and mini bar that was refilled daily. I would love to know the history of this suite, why is there an English (Austin Powers?) themed suite in Porto Alegre? Seems very odd but let’s go with it! Location: hotel is located in a safe neighbourhood in the historical centre. There are good food and drink options nearby, an adjacent shopping mall with a chemist and luxury clothes stores and nearby parks for exercise/walking. Housekeeping: an acknowledgement of the honesty of your housekeeping staff. I sent a large load of clothes for laundering and didn’t realise I had left over $100 in my pocket. Housekeeping returned this to me in a sealed envelope, thank you. The bad: Noisy: on my first night there was an event being held in the adjacent presidential suite, that the hotel proudly boasted about on its instagram. During this event the room doors were left open, meaning there was lots of noise audible in my room as speeches were performed and there was a steady flow of people constantly coming and going. Thankfully the event concluded around 11pm, but I’d still suggest Hilton reconsiders how to manage the noise from these events if they are a regular feature. Room/bedding: as I mentioned the room was comfortable, but there are definite signs of wear and tear. The wallpaper is peeling, paint is missing from doors and walls. The bedding was very old, noticeable yellow stains on pillow cases and pilling on the sheets. The bedding seems like an easy one to fix quickly, the other cosmetic issues in the room will need more work. I read online that Hilton took over this property from Sheraton in 2022 and at that time Hilton committed to renovating, so let’s hope that’s still planned. Other staff: security staff at the front door were not friendly, they made no effort to greet you or open doors as you came and went, even when I visibly had my hands full carrying items. Staff in bistro did not speak English, fortunately menu is available online in English via in room QR code. Facilities: I was confused by the restaurant on level 5. I understood this was meant to be open for dinner, but nobody was there when I visited after 8pm. I also found the gym arrangement uncomfortable, it has front desk staff that you need to check-in with and get permission to access the gym, as the hotel has sold memberships to people who live in Porto Alegre, so it is not exclusive to hotel guests. Conclusion: this is a very comfortable and secure
Molto buono
