Renaissance Paris Vendome Hotel

This was our third stay at this hotel over a period of several years and I posted a very positive review in 2014. Oh, how things have changed here! I begin with the most serious of the offenses and indignities we suffered during our 5-night stay. I was entrapped in the hotel's elevator for a period of 10-15 minutes before the staff registered any response to the emergency alarm bell or my pounding on the elevator door. When a maintenance employee finally arrived, he said that the alarm bell notified the off-premises elevator service company rather than the hotel itself. I knew this was not accurate as I could clearly hear the alarm when I repeatedly pressed it. When I was finally liberated from the elevator and spoke with the on-duty manager, he apologized and said he had been in the ”back office” and had not heard the alarm. The general manager of the hotel also stated that she regretted the ”inconvenience.” I think this event qualified substantially above the level of ”inconvenience” and the manager's proffer of a fractional portion of the substantial Marriott points I had used for my stay was wholly inadequate for the life-threatening emergency that could well have been the case. In addition to this incident, we experienced an appalling indifference and lack of basic service from the staff of the hotel, including (1) absence of a bellman to assist with our bags upon arrival at the hotel by taxi ,(2) failure to deliver an additional luggage rack to the room following request of the bellman, (3) failure of housekeeping staff to make up the room for a period of two hours and after three requests when we inadvertently left the French-language ”do not disturb” sign on our door, (4) failure to respond to three or more requests for towels that had not been left by the housekeeper, and (5) recommendation by the newest and least-experienced junior concierge of an Asian restaurant that displayed a ”closed” sign when we arrived and where no employees spoke English or could provide an English-language menu. (In fact, with regard to the restaurant, the chief concierge told us the next day that she had ”never heard of it.”) We chose this hotel because we had previously had positive experiences, notwithstanding the fact that the rooms are extremely small (even with our upgrade from a ”cubby hole” to a ”shoebox-sized” room). The hotel's common area is beautifully decorated and the rooms are well-appointed despite their size. The problem with this hotel boils down to indifferent management and that is really a shame. It could be so much more!

This eclectic hotel is all about the location! The area felt safe and was charming. It is a five-minute walk to the Louvre and walkable to many other sights. There are many charming small restaurants nearby. Other Pros & Cons NICE STAFF! We arrived much earlier than our check-in time expecting to just leave our luggage and kill some time. But the young lady at reception had a room ready which she said was an upgrade and let us check in early which was great as we were exhausted from our overnight flight. Every time we left or entered the building we were pleasantly greeted by the staff. The night before our departure, Tomas graciously arranged an early morning taxi for us and was even there in the morning to help us out to the taxi. NICE ROOM! This hotel is undergoing renovation, but our room was definitely one that had been renovated. It was very clean, spacious and even had a sitting area. The bed was very comfortable, and the furniture was a mixture of modern and antiques. The bathroom was wonderful and even had a double shower with two entrances. The only downside to the room was the view was to a not too attractive courtyard and of course I would have preferred a street view had I known to ask. NICE BUILDING! The exterior of the building is very attractive. However, when you first enter the lobby of the hotel it is a little surprising as it is a bit eclectic, but fun. For example, the reception desk is an antique tub with a table on top and the furnishings in the ”lobby” area are red velvet. There is also a beautiful old circular staircase. The hotel was in a great location, was reasonable for the area and was very comfortable. I want to point out a few negatives that should not necessarily dissuade you from staying here but you should be aware of when making your decision. or room reservation. Our room, 301, was in a corridor which was at the end of another corridor that was still undergoing a remodeling. To get to our room you had to pass through an area, where the carpet was old, and the wallpaper was odd. More unsettling than the cosmetics, the ceiling tiles were removed, and wires were hanging down giving a shabby look. Once you passed this area, there was new carpeting, fresh paint and wall coverings and everything was fine. The other issue that might be a problem for some, to get to our room you had to go down a fairly short staircase without railings-for someone with mobility issues this could be a problem so you might consider this when asking for a room. The only other issue we encountered is that on the third day of our stay, we could not get to the elevator as the corridor was completely blocked off and there was evidently construction going on the other side. We walked down the stairway, not an issue for us, but for someone else this could be a problem. Overall, we had a positive experience at the hotel!

excellent location!! very close to louvre museum and those designers shops and metro stations. the security of the community is not bad. friendly and super helpful staff who helped us to call laboratories for our PCR test (as we don’t speak french) and helped us to print the test reports. there are two big jars of water provided at the reception for guests and two complimentary bottled water (one still and one sparkling) each day. free refill of toothpaste, body wash, shampoo. the bad side is that there is no curtain for the shower so the whole bathroom went wet after our shower with the high pressure shower head haha. bathrobe and slippers are also provided. also, the room is quite small for us to accommodate three big luggages and two hand carry luggages. still a good value of money given the location and services!
