Dangerous and Unacceptable Experience at Hotel Chateau d’Eau, Paris, France My daughter and I stayed at Hotel Chateau d’Eau (Paris, France) for a planned 5-night vacation in early July, but our experience was nothing short of a nightmare. We paid in full before checkin, expecting a safe and comfortable stay, but the hotel failed to deliver on basic standards of safety, service, and hospitality. Upon arrival, we were shocked by the neighborhood, which felt unsafe due to loud, intoxicated individuals lingering late into the night. The first room assigned to us was tiny, like a “birdcage”, though it appeared clean, so we tolerated it. Tragically, on the first night, the flimsy shower glass door broke and fell on my daughter, cutting her toes and causing significant bleeding. I had to use my own first aid kit to treat her, as the hotel offered no medical assistance. We reported the incident to the one-man reception desk, who promised to move us to another room, but this didn’t happen until the third night. The second room was slightly larger but had no air conditioning, no internet, a bathroom with hairs left from the previous guest, and a filthy small window faced another building’s backside, offering no privacy. Worse, on the third night, the entire building experienced a gas leak and power outage, leaving us trapped in total darkness and heat, no warm water, no elevator. The hotel was woefully unprepared, with no flashlights, fire extinguishers, or emergency equipment to guide guests down five floors of stairs. We were terrified and felt abandoned. We literally felt our life was in danger. The receptionist acknowledged the situation was a “disaster” and encouraged us to leave for our safety, advising us to email for a refund. We checked out early and found another hotel. However, when I emailed for a refund as instructed, the management responded with a rude, dismissive email, falsely claiming I was lucky not to be charged for the shower door damage and denying responsibility for the gas leak and power outage. This response was shocking and unacceptable for a hospitality business. This hotel lacks basic safety measures, emergency preparedness, and professional customer service. The management’s refusal to apologize or refund us for an unsafe, incomplete stay is a betrayal of guest trust. As experienced travelers, we’ve never encountered such a dangerous and poorly managed hotel. I strongly advise others to avoid Hotel Chateau d’Eau to prevent similar experiences. I’ve reported the safety violations to the relevant authorities and am pursuing a refund for the nights we couldn’t stay.

We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. While the surrounding area may not feel very inviting at first, stepping inside feels like entering an oasis. The hotel is beautifully styled, with charming décor reminiscent of classic French films. Our room was spotless, tastefully decorated, and came with a coffee machine and fresh water replenished daily. This hotel truly exceeded our expectations — we didn’t want to leave! It’s also conveniently located near Gare du Nord and Gare de l’East.

A cute little hotel, clean and affordable, at the heart of a lively neighbourhood. Great staff especially Nabeel who took the time to fix our TV after finding us plates and cuttlery to have a late dinner. Close to city buses and metro. Short walking distance from several landmaks.

A stunning hotel with lovely staff. Tom and Ivan made sure my stay was excellent. I cannot thank them both enough for making sure every need was accommodated for. They went above and beyond with service and they are a true asset to this hotel. Excellent selection of snacks in the mini bar, beautiful room. I really look forward to returning.

I read some really awful reviews about this hotel prior to leaving and after staying at the hotel I can say that they were totally unwarranted. The hotel is clean and the rooms are comfortable, the beds were lovely and cosy. The bathroom was small but was decorated beautifully and it has an amazing shower with great water pressure. Body wash, shampoo and conditioner are lovely. The staff at the hotel were fantastic and couldn't do enough for you. Tom on reception was really amazing and the staff spoke perfect English. I stayed at this hotel with my 13 year old daughter and we both felt extremely safe. The area around the hotel is bustling and can be loud, but no louder than living in any other city in the world. The metro station is meters away and you can be at any of the sights within 20-30 minutes. All in all a lovely little hotel with the friendliest staff who go out of their way to make sure that you are comfortable and happy. I would totally recommend this hotel if you are going to Paris.

Came here after two cold nights at Hotel De Bordeaux, two blocks away. The heating didn't work there in the beginning of February! Checked out and booked my last night here. Room 501. Good lift. Stylish, compact smaller double room with comfortable 140-bed. Minibar, kettle and Nespresso machine. Safe deposit box. Orange carpet in good condition. Flower box outside the window. Stylish and functional shower room. Got a glimpse of the breakfast, which looked nice. The area is very busy, not fancy and there is noise outside around the clock, but I always use earplugs. Very closeto grocery stores, restaurants and everything you need. Stayed in the area before because I go to concerts at Morning, just 110 meters away. I don't understand why this hotel has received bad reviews! Compared to the nearby hotels Jarry and De Bordeaux where I previously stayed, this felt wonderfully luxurious, nice, comfortable and welcoming. So worth the 124 Euro for my last night here. I am a very frequent traveller and I would definitely come back here. The two male receptionists I met was so kind, polite and helpful. Spoke good english too.

I had such a horrid experience at this hotel. I was trying to book their partner hotel which was not available and it sent me to this hotel's website for booking. It looked nice online, but I was NOT aware that the hotel was just barely open and still partially under construction. My friend and I were the only guests despite the front desk insisting we weren't and because our hall way and room smelled of wet paint and still had paper on the floor, we requested a different room only to be told that we would have to pay more. Considering all of the doors of the other rooms were open to let the paint dry, we were very aware we were alone in this hotel, and it was almost creepy. The hotel staff did nothing to make us more comfortable and insisted they were not under construction. The room was small - even by Paris standards. The bathroom door wouldn't close, the street noise was very loud, the toilet seat fell off the toilet, and the light in the shower did not work. When asking the "manager" for assistance he met me with hostility and gaslit me by saying none of this was true. I would not be surprised if this place closes down in under a year. It appears they put much more effort in the aesthetic for photos than concern for their guests' comfort.

Value for money and looked like the pictures. Newly renovated and an amazing stay. The hotel was clean and the staff friendly. The bathroom was on the tiny side - but the products, towels and everything was top notch. It’s located in a buzzing area and with a lot of different people and cultures. Lots of cafés and not too far from anything. Overall we felt very safe in the area. 24/7 desk so you can leave your key and bagage. Very nice not to have a key with you when you are out and about. Overall an amazing stay and we loved the area.

The hotel staff were lovely! I think they were trying extra hard to be accommodating because they knew how crappy their hotel was. It was apparent upon arrival that liberities had been taken when photographing and describing this hotel. The rooms and bathrooms were very small, which is to be expected in Europe. However, the broken toilet seat, non functioning air conditioner, shower curtain that despite its best efforts, did not perform the duties of a shower curtain, telephone that was “only decorative” and bath products that boosted the Diptyque packaging but were clearly filled with some unidentified caustic liquid was not to be expected in a hotel charging €200-300 per night. The location was not the best and not really close to anything if you require Uber or taxi services. However, if you wish to travel like the locals, the metro is close by. The neighborhood to the left of the hotel was a little sketchy but to the right it seemed to be family oriented with cafes, a lovely cheese and wine shop and multiple boulangeries. The streets were quite lively at night and into the wee hours which prompted us to send up a word of thanks for the lousy view from our room. Would I stay here again? Absolutely Not! Completely overpriced even for Paris. Would I recommend this hotel? Absolutely! But only to those I do not care for. Keep looking folks…there are better hotels than this in Paris!
