The Ranald Apartments

The Ranald Apartments in central Oban turned out to be a gem! The apartment was very well kitted out and comfortable, with everything we could possibly need for a couple of nights in the town. I have no hesitation in recommending it, as it was also excellent value for money.

Booked an apartment as a bolthole for three nights for some outdoor activities in the area. Don't expect a sea view at these prices, but everything else was great. Very clean and not tired, well equipped kitchen if you wish to cook your own meal, large TV and sofa with small dining table too. Very pleasant staff, thanks.

Really good apartment cosy and lovely views, there is no lift so please keep this in mind. Room isn’t serviced at all during your stay however if you ask for anything it’s no problem. Kitchen area has everything needed although a toaster would’ve bees great. Comfy clean bed, shower is ok not the most powerful but overall very nice place to stay and very central. Parking is not free and would advise booking via the payment app as it’s much cheaper and more convenient. Lovely reception staff too.

Just back from 6th time at Ranald Apartments. They seem to be updating rooms all the time, thinking of ways to make your experience better. Kitchen well equipped even down to kitchen roll and kitchen foil, so handy. Very comfy bed with crisp white bedding. Plenty storage space too and lots of coathangers. Even provide iron and ironing board in room too. Shower was powerful and just the thing after you've been walking all day. Situation is amazing. Less than 5 minutes walk to supermarkets,ferry terminal, bus station,train station and waterfront. Such a great base to explore the islands and surrounding towns/villages. Will definitely be back.

On arrival, I was really pleased as it was a beautiful sunny day and the bright outlook at the front of the building lifted my spirits. On arriving at the door of Flat 4, my heart sunk immediately. All of the other flats faced the front or side of the building whereas ours faced the back (the dark side of the building with no outlook whatsoever). The flat was clean enough apart from a couple of cobwebs in the corners of the lounge ceiling but very cold. The bathroom remained cool and damp for the 3 days we stayed as there wasn't any heat in there to dry off the condensation and the 2 large and 1 small towels given to last the 3 days never dried out. They were never changed. The flat was comfortable and had nearly everything we would have wanted but just so dark it never felt like a place I wanted to be. On departure I was asked if everything had been ok and I said about the darkness and was advised to book direct next time and request a front facing room (strange as that is what we had in fact done. It was with an Itison deal however and thought that's probably why we had the worst room). Needless to say it will not be happening. This was a trip for our two birthdays, husband on 18th and mine on 19th March. Would I recommend this place? In a word - Nope. I don't actually do reviews for Tripadvisor anymore and haven't for 10-15 years but made an exception here.

The Hotel was really nice, well maintained. My room was lovely and clean and the staff were welcoming and helpful. The Hotel is in a good location, near all the bar, shops and restaurants. I would highly recommend the Hotel and hopefully we will be back in the near future.
