Idle Awhile Resort

This is a review for the Beach resort. I can say that it is deserving of its high scores as it's a really lovely place. The staff are happy, helpful and hospitable. The location is brilliant as the ***** of the beach they are on is clean and quiet. It was so quiet that we saw barracudas, rays, star fish and small coral fish. The only downside is that on one day jellyfish arrived and stung plenty of people but the bar staff quickly stepped in to administer first aid. Plus it's easy to get to the shops, other restaurants or get a taxi to go on excursions from here either by asking the receptionist to book, using Uber or getting a passing one. The kayaks, trampoline and paddle boards are fun and more importantly free. They have a permanent beach security guard and a lifeguard during the days (except Sunday). They have ample sun loungers, umbrellas and beach towels. The service on the beach bar is great. They are so friendly and go the extra mile. They explained when we checked in that the kitchen was small so food service is not immediate which was fine as it was worth waiting for. Room service is free, you get a welcome free drink and they take your luggage across to your room. Room Stayed in the family suite (108) across the road. It is large and well air conditioned (3 units). It has two sinks and one is out with the bathroom but only one toilet and shower. The beds are very comfortable and the main bed is so large that it fits 4 people in it...though not to sleep, to watch TV. They need to put blackout blinds on the bathroom and across the front windows as although no one can see in (we checked) at night there's a street light that shines in and the morning light means an early wake up for whoever is in the bunk bed. You get all the toiletries you need except hair conditioner and body lotion. The kitchen came with washing up liquid, plenty of utensils, plates etc and a big fridge freezer. You can cook a meal if you want as there's a hob, microwave and a mini electric oven/toaster. The housekeeping was excellent. The TVs couldn't broadcast cable but you could use Netflix if you have it. The WiFi is slow, cuts out and they really need better security. If you live in a town or city the noise level is much the same during the day and up until approximately 23h. Thereafter it becomes fairly quiet until the early morning. However if you are a light sleeper or go to bed early take ear plugs. Safety Felt secure as the hotel office is on the ground floor so staff and usually about, the laundry service is at the back and they work until late. Plus the restaurant next door and Garfield farm keep a watchful eye. There's also a safe in the room. Walkability The security staff or general staff will help you across the road. The local shops are a 10 minute walk Food and drink The menu is a little expensive and lacks variety but the lamb chops, saltfish fritters, festival and fruit plate are lovely. What a gem! I chose this place for a nice quiet 40th birthday getaway. It was just what I was looking for. If you want a hotel on the beach that is quiet, clean and ideal for laying on the beach. Stay here. It’s pretty dead compared to the all inclusive hotels but that is just what I was looking for. The beach was right outside my room. I woke up and fell asleep to the sound of the ocean. The restaurant on premises has a decent selection of local and mainstream food. I tried the traditional Jamaican breakfast several mornings and it was pretty good. Prices are comparable to other locations nearby. However, there is a vast selection of restaurants within walking distance. Staff was friendly, rooms were spacious and clean with ample towels. Staff on the beach would setup umbrellas and beach chairs. Beach attendants will take your order and bring to you on the beach. I was ready to book another stay a few weeks after and they were completely sold out so act fast. Would 100% stay here again no question.

We stayed at the beach location for three days and it was quite enjoyable. The visitors and the staff were amazing and I would definitely return to this location. It’s located on a wonderful stretch of beach, and in my opinion is more classy than some of the other hotels on 7 mile beach.although I prefer their sister resort on the cliffs, I would return.

We have stayed at Idle Awhile many many times for a reason, and that is because it is the nicest place on all of Negril beach. All of the Idle Awhile properties are spectacular. The location of the beach hotel is ideal and perfect for families. The restaurant and bar there are fantastic as are the amenities. The BEST part about Idle Awhile are the staff!!! They are the most professional, dependable and delightful staff in Negril. I have traveled all over Jamaica for 30 years and can easily say that Idle Awhile has the best services Ive encountered in the country. Be sure to grab a yummy drink when Carlton is on duty at the bar! Best bartender on the island:) This is the nicest hotel in Negril and a perfect spot for a marvelous vacation.

I had the most wonderful time with my friends at idle awhile during my vacation in Jamaica. Staff was polite, rooms were exquisite and Xavier (Manager) was extraordinary. I would highly recommend that you stay at this location when you travel to Negril. I really enjoyed my time and will be returning with other members of my family soon. My favorite part was the cleanliness and appearance of the rooms, the restaurant was wonderful for breakfast and lunch. I couldn't recommend this place enought.

Wow, this place never dis-appoints. Between the comfortable, spotless and modern accommodations, the delicious (and reasonably priced!) food, beautiful beach and amazing staff, I don't know what I liked best. It's got to be the staff. From the security, housekeeping, even the gardener, are all such a pleasure to speak to. And this is coming from a pessimist. I know I probably sound like a shill, but it's true. The first couple nights our requested 203 wasn't available, and they put us up in a much nicer suite at the same cost. Food really is reasonable. Continental breakfast starting under $8 us, fresh fruit smoothies $5 or $6! and red stripe at $4, That's cheaper than Tony's hut, and Needle brings it to my lounge with a few laughs. Now that I'm thinking about it, maybe I shouldn't brag about what a great time we had. It's going to get harder to book a room.
