Naries Namakwa Retreat

We stayed nights on our way to Namibia. We had stayed 10 years ago and much was the same though it was very quiet. The accommodation is unique and is an amazing experience. Feels it needs a little upgrading. Bianca was great, rest of staff friendly, but probably need more training Food was ok, but there is a limited choice. Dining area needs to have a little character injected.

Excellent Location... Lovely place just outside Springbock Had a very warm welcome and showed around Extremely friendly staff and very relaxed atmosphere.. Had some drinks in the sunset lounge and met up with fellow guests o discuss the area etc

Had a pleasant stay, unfortunately the self catering chalets were not as neat as could be, some cutlery were dirty and the blinds need some cleaning and fixing and there was lots of bugs lying around.

Naries Namakwa Retreat is a wonderful place to immerse yourself in wilderness and wild flowers. There are wonderful hiking routes that are well marked and well thought out. The sundowners at a beautiful view point every evening are a great treat. Naries is close to the Goegab Nature Reserve near Springbok which is a great place to visit while staying at Naries. The food at Naries was exceptional! Every dish was cooked with care and presented beautifully!

We stayed here for a night in late August 2024. We had a twin bedded Manor House room for R4200 (2 pax, DB&B). The reserve is beautifully situated and obviously well cared for, perfect for hiking and the outdoors. Fantastic trails and views in a most unusual landscape. Our room was a bit dark and not very cheerful, with some mismatched furniture, but reasonably comfortable. My single duvet felt like a narrow piece of foam rubber, and the pillows were too firm and too high for my liking. Bathroom a good size, and shower decent. We had a broccoli soup and an ostrich carpaccio for starters, both of which were bland and tasteless. The sirloin steaks, with gravy, roast potatoes and grilled veggies were excellent but could have done with a spot of creamed horseradish. Dessert was an average caramel cheesecake. The dining room, except for its great views, is completely without ambience. Breakfast was generous and tasty. The front of house staff on arrival were well-meaning but clearly lacking in both training and inclination. The more experienced service staff were much better. Overall, the retreat is somewhat over-priced. The self- catering accommodation looked much more inviting.

The mountain suites are beautiful. The serene surroundings and the cozy suite provided the perfect escape. We also enjoyed the delicious food. A huge appreciation also goes to all the staff. We truly appreciated all the thoughtful details that made our stay so special. Thank you for your warm hospitality and for sharing such a lovely place with us. We hope to return someday!
