Carlton Hotel Mumbai - Behind Taj Mahal Palace Colaba Mumbai

Very nice stay . One of my friend suggested this place. It was worth the amount . Good property, good staff , good service . he location was relatively convenient to Market street - walkable with luggage. Some god value restaurants close by. Felt safe. Great beds. Appreciated the bath and shower option

Located just behind the Taj Mahal hotel, the location is the best advantage of staying at Carlton. Very close to popular food joints like Leopold, Mondegar and Bade Miyan. There are 2 types of rooms - with and without attached washroom. There is also an option of 2 double beds in one room for family/group of 4 persons. Rooms are generally clean and comfortable. There is a cosy sitout overlooking the street to enjoy a cup of tea/coffee. Friendly and helpful staff make your stay pleasant.

Best place to stay on Colaba! Just behind Taj Mahal hotel, very helpfull staff, great location. Just few steps to India Gate, Loepold Cafe, Gokul, where is all night life. To Chattrapati Shivaji terminus is 20 min walk. Strongly recomended, in march i'll stay there again :)

good hotel to stay in colaba, Mumbai. only thing is to share bath rooms, ok bath rooms also well maintained. we can access all places in mumbai staying in colaba, This is budget hotel to stay in mumbai

The Carlton Hotel is in the best location! Minutes away from the Gates of India and on the edge of the shopping district. Extremely reasonably priced. Rooms are basic but clean, showers are excellent and theres a lovely open balcony. The owner is really friendly and couldnt do enough for us even helping us find the best price to send some boxes home.. id definately stay again!

Great location. Thats basically it im afraid. Its a 2* hotel so I didn't arrive expecting the taj, but this place was a shambles. I arrived at 12.30 midnight. Couldn't find a way in, had to seek help. There is no sign to get in at all on street level. During check in the guy (who WAS friendly at least) offered to change money for me 3 times. He offered beer 3 times too. Thats fine, but I felt uncomfortable as a solo female traveller to be offered alcohol so many times at 1am when all I wanted to do was go to bed. The bathrooms are pretty atrocious. Holes in all ceiling panels. I felt so uncomfortable I didn't even shower in the morning, and trust me, I NEEDED that shower. Sheets were thin and not very clean, room didn't have a proper window. Room also dusty etc. Not a huge issue but it could be an awesome property, and is just...bleak. In the morning I was washing my face in the communal sink and the night manager interrupted me to ask if I wanted money changed, as I had soap bubbles all over my face and was bent over the sink, I couldn't believe he was asking me again when my eyes were literally covered in soap and I was draped in a towel, but, despite me ignoring this question, he stood by me and Continued to ask again till i rinsed my face and responded "no I don't need money changed". I kid you not, I swear this guy asked me over 20 times if I wanted money changed. He interrupted me on the phone to ask this again. When I said please don't ask this again, he gaslit me into thinking I was crazy and angry, and said the other manager had told him I wanted money changed.id said "no" at LEAST 10 times by the time the day manager even came on duty. It was a total farce. He also knocked on my door at 8am to ask for my passport again. I told him i was getting drrssed and id bring him the passport on my way out. He had to have this repeated 3 times before he agreed to wait. same guy also offered to book me a taxi to bandra terminus for 800rs. He wasn't kidding, I double checked. Even on a metered taxi this only came to 400rs. Like I said, this could be an awesome place, but the current prices charged are a rip off. If you're a solo female traveller, it was fine, but I did not feel great in this place, and I wouldn't recommend it. The guy who hassled me repeatedly needs to be talked to. He's not a bad guy but honestly his hustling left me feeling unusually harassed, and I'm pretty bloody tolerant.
